I wanna take you through an entire day of cooking and eating from the perspective of a broke college student who is trying to stay healthy. I'm documenting all my meals trying to focus on maximizing nutritional value while still keeping the dishes cheap, easy and fun. I made sure all recipes take less than 30 minutes to complete, they're nutritionally balanced, and they're approachable as a college student.
Thank you for watching my videos! If you enjoyed please consider supporting me by subscribing and clicking the bell.

One of the biggest game changes in food prep wrt saving time is realising not only is peeling your vegetables/fruits for cooking not required, it extremely healthy option as there are many valuable nutrients lost when peeling that are especially great for developing young bodies of children for building their immune system. Not to mention the additional texture and flavour add punch to the meals too. Also, herbs, spices etc, are high value in anti-oxidents and many more, so when making baby/toddler food, don't leave them out, black pepper, paprika, herbs etc etc.

Cooking like any other skill is a matter of practice. Try making those recipes for like a week straight and you'll be making them with no fuss in no time.

You should try overnight oats, it's way easier Also, cooking is one of those things that you'll get better at the more you do it The first time I made something, i completely ruined it. I know it might make you feel worse because it's good and you don't want to mess up something you really need for sustenance, but I promise you'll get better at it the more you do it. A great place to start is eggs, if you do eat it. Make a sunny side up or scrambled eggs, fancy it up a little with something flavorful like sriracha and even some toppings like oregano, eat it with something you can get from the store like tortillas. Eggs always boost your confidence when you're starting out, so do try them
@LuisMartinez-os7fv
@LuisMartinez-os7fv 7 месяцев назад
That's amazing, and with more practice you'll be looking back and seeing just how much more u can incorporate and do more in less time the basics r hard but just like any basic skill you'll hav it down in no time, if you've never done it yourself ur not "bad" perse your trying and that's what matters, it would be like asking an orangutan too solve a Rubix cube sure he could prob do it with time but u don't blame him cuz he's never tried it before‼️‼️

Not a student but I have never been to a store / farmers market where you can grab 1 egg, teaspoon of herbs etc. I would appreciate the realism here that you purchase the ingerdients like a student would, so essentially, planning a grocery list and then making it from there. That's where the true savings come from. I remember when I was a student the savings also came from what I could freeze or make in bulk, essentially cooking for 4 but freezing the 3 other meals for later use.
@stoopidoh1104
@stoopidoh1104 Год назад
The true savings come from actually cooking with what you have at home. Over an extended period of time, if you don't let what you buy go to waste - this is what it will actually cost you. How many people just let stuff sit and go bad? That is what I call wasting money.
@ciciamanda.
@ciciamanda. Год назад
yeah i meal prepped some soup to but in the freezer not long ago. The soup was great and easy too make.. but now i owned celery... The recipe called for two stalks, but can you buy just two stalks? no. You buy a plant. So after the soup was done i was having to put celery in absolutely everything to not let it go to waste. It was a whole week of meals like: scrambled eggs - With celery, Wrap - With celery, Pasta sauce - With fucking sellery And so on.. (I drew the line at bread with celery. ) So yeah, shopping is a pain and celery an even bigger pain. I will never again sit at my desk at midnight and eat half wilted raw celery stalks like an absolute gremlin. The soup isnt worth the pain
@ciciamanda.
@ciciamanda. Год назад
@@cooksoya7503 yeah i tried my best to cook with it, and i did end uo making a lot of food with it. The raw celery munching was a very desperate attempt to not let it go to waste as it was vilting.. and I don't have the economy to waste food and I didn't have the economy to buy more ingredients to cook stuff with it..... but I've learned my lesson: Any food is better than going hungry, except for raw wilted celery. I'd rather go hungry than eat that shit
@ciciamanda.

@matthewvanrensburg3824
@matthewvanrensburg3824 Год назад
@@jaret6661 We have people selling fresh fruits and vegetable out the back of a bakkie (ford pickup sort of thing) on the side of the street. Plenty farmers markets in town, direct from our farmers, where public have access to the very market supplying restaurants and grocery stores. Our most basic, even low income grocers have fresh vegetables and fruit etc. And as for takeout, we have plenty healthy options which are even cheaper than the imports from US like Mcdonalds and Burger King, they are definitely better value for money. Even our frozen vegetables are affordable. Equivalent of US1.50 for 1kg (Over 2pounds) of mixed frozen veg.
@matthewvanrensburg3824
@matthewvanrensburg3824 Год назад
Oh, and more on take out. On their first two attempts of getting into South Africa, Mcdonalds went bankrupt, failed, we found the food so disgusting. They had to drastically adjust their approach and still barely making their 3rd attempt work. The only truly successful import to stand test of time has been KFC and SA version is nothing like USA at all. And my family health, well, my youngest turns 6 and has never needed to see a GP.

this is an amazing idea. However when I was a college student I didn't have access to a stove let alone pots and pans. If I couldn't do it in a microwave I couldn't do it at all. That's honestly something I feel all of these types of broke college student videos forget. You have to have the utilities to do things. And for a large portion of college students (especially the ones who'd be looking at this type of stuff) they don't

honestly if you dont have a stove, get yourself a good little rice cooker and an electric kettle. both are usually allowed and will save your life wrt cooking food - u can cook a lot more than just rice in a rice cooker!

The only change I would make is marinating the tofu during lunch time in something like dark soy,light soy and anything else cuz I feel tofu is just a bit too bland even when seasoned heavily

I really wanna share my perfect recipe for breakfast: I soak oat with almond milk, put them into microwave for about 2 min in 65°C, which makes the oat sucks milk and softens. While waiting oat, i omelette 2 eggs to add more protein. Finally, i add soy sauce into the surface of oat and eat it with eggs, perfect and easiest breakfast for me 🥰

I have pretty much the same type of oats/fruit/cinnamon combo for breakfast almost every day, but I like using blackberries/rasberries/blueberries instead of apple. I add protein by swapping between smoked herring, muscles, oysters, and sardines.

Tip from someone who worked in a sandwich shop: if you’re too lazy to heat the tortilla in a skillet (like me) or don’t have a clean pan, microwaving it for 10 second will do the same thing. Also sauces are everything, don’t take much time to make, and are simpler than you think.
