@@adillakandi.r if the story is correct and the GT40's needed that much fixing to get them to race well, Shelby American is really the hero. Ford would have never done it without Carroll Shelby. I also would give a lot of credit though to whoever engineered the 427, that's really why those GT40's were even that fast and would last 24 hours.
I spoke to Pete Brock ( designer of the Cobra Daytona Coupe) recently. He was at “Shelby ground zero” for this whole time period. He said Shelby would not have been as successful as they were had it not been for Ken Miles. He said Ken put his heart and sole into the testing of the cars, and the GT40s were the result of his dedication.
You know I had never followed racing too intently. My uncle use to run/manage Ascot Speedway and the Corona Raceway here in SoCal back in the 70's. We had a blast as kids watching the stock car and crazy eight races. I also had a boss that I worked for about 20 years ago that was big into Nascar, etc. He knew Danica Patrick personally way before she became famous. We'd talk a lot about that stuff. He pitted for her crew and stood up for her as well. What I am getting at is, I always had an intrigue into the sport. Now in my 50's, I watched Ford vs Ferrari and was blown away! An amazing film in and of itself, but the historical facts from what I have been reading are pretty spot on. I am now a HUGE Ken Miles fan. From what I have gathered is he is one of the unsung heroes of the sport of racing. For his legacy, I am really happy for his family that he was brought to light. With all that said my wife and I now attend the Long Beach Gran Prix here in my town and have a blast as fans!
@@maxmulsanne7054 WRONG! Ken Miles was 34 seconds ahead of the next driver and was ordered by Ford to slow down. He came in second on a TECHNICALITY, as in the event of a dead heat, the driver who traveled the longest from the starting grid was declared the winner. IN FACT, if Ken Miles hadn't been ordered to slow down he would have EASILY WON Le Mans by at least 34 seconds. How about YOU pick up a book and educate yourself schmuck.
3:09 Miles (car no. 1) was ahead of Bruce ( car no. 2) and from 3:21 to 3:25 you see Miles slow down for car 2, so those who are just watching the finish line and telling Bruce won should see it
And Miles got docked because he was an idiot and kept pressing when it was not necessary. Case Closed. And before you go off on some stupid tirade like other imbeciles here have, go to the Ford website about this race.
I don’t care what anyone says, Ken Miles was the star that blew everyone on the track away that day. He was robbed of his hard fought victory. Ken Miles and Ford won that race. Not Mclaren, not Ferrari.
@@Edgazx first time when Miles' speed and pace was a bad thing... have you seen the movie "Ford V Ferrari" (or "Le Mans '66")? There is one scene, where one of the marshals tells Shelby etc how changing your brakes erc is against the rules. Then Shelby tells him that they read their damn rule book. If they really read that, Shelby or Miles woulnd't have listened to Ford or Beebe
If you love cars and racing, you hear about these historic races but to see them in real footage...is amazing. I think Ken would neen proud for the 50th anniversary return win at Le Mans
Wrong. You guys totally got misled by movie hype. Amon/McLaren slowed down - AS REQUESTED BY FORD - once the last Ferrari threat faded away. Beebe's statement on Ford's website makes that perfectly clear.
@@maxmulsanne7054Look, I agree, I agree, Ford made a 2021 video about Ken Miles and it's a tribute to Ken Miles and they painted a painting on today's Ford GT of Ken Miles' car, the Ford GT MK ll and it's not from Le Mans, it's the Ken's first victory car and ken's son, peter miles, was in that same video, which is an interview about peter's father, but anyway... even though ken is not part of this business, ford treats him like another legend who was part of it Ford another legend and I already know what it means based on the film's hype, but I'm also a child who can be said to know about motorsport, so don't try to think I'm stupid
Did the movie really change that Ken Miles didn't even cross the finish line first? I mean, there's seemingly actual pictures of the finish, how does this get changed? Great RU-vid video though, appreciate it
Bebe had something personal against Miles... he wanted it to be more about him and the Driver (McLaren) that he chose... it was Bebe who ordered Miles to slow down so that all 3 Ford's cross at the same time
Miles waited for the other two nobody was anywhere near him he had a two lap lead and he rolled out so they could catch him and then they stole the wind from him
And today....Ford is nowhere while Ferrari still sells some of the most beautifully designed and powerful cars. Ferrari is still competing in Formula 1 while Ford couldn't make an engine to last one race.
Ken Mikes got ripped off but everyone knows he’s the winning driver. If Ford wanted 3 of their cars to drive past the finish line they should’ve let Ken finish the race then take one more lap for the 3 to cross but hindsight is 20-20. If the movie is true to life then thank Leo Beebe for that
You mean "idiotic" movie right? Because that was the false narrative - again by Hollywood (who can NEVER be trusted unless a production by Ron Howard).
