I remember watching this episode and Mattie changing my life as well just listening to him. The part about the cloud and the plane was amazing because both he and Oprah talked about how it is always sunny on the other side of a cloud. I still think about that part today when I am having a bad day or if it's been overcast for 2 weeks straight.

This is breathtaking. I especially love the part when Mattie talks about the "cloud coming" and it feeling like going through a "fluffy marshmallow." That is so cute! What a little spirit!

Among the pantheon of the greatest geniuses. How lucky we were to have him with us. The only name I could call him if I would have been in his presence is Maestro. Master, in English. Maestro Mattie Stepanek. One of the few greatest souls the world has ever known.

Wow. "Mattie" is a highly evolved soul, already teaching love at this tender age. "He" will no doubt be back here soon, continuing his work teaching love. "He" must have chosen this "damaged" biological vessel for a reason: a short little trip on this particular go-round in order to learn a lesson he wouldn't have otherwise learned in a healthy vessel. Learn, learn, learn; that's all we can do, no matter what our circumstances! Cheers.

Mattie's self-chosen particular physical vehicle ("his" 'challenged' body), though it was not intended to carry "him" far in terms of earthly years, it was custom-designed to serve "him" in "his" delivery of "his" soul's message over many more miles world-wide than a 'normal' body could in so brief a life. However, I believe that Mattie was an advanced soul who incarnated for a brief period, not so much to learn a lesson but to impart it to others through the most effective means possible within a relatively short timeline. After all, "he" was already communicating "his" message of love through poetry, "his" chosen outlet, at age 3. "He" arrived on the earth plane ALREADY bearing the knowledge/insights "he" had chosen to share with this world. Cheers.

Just now, right after I posted my reply to your comment, I googled 'Mattie Stepanek' and was pleasantly surprised to discover that "he" passed away exactly 10 years ago TODAY. I had just 'randomly' clicked on this video, after seeing a reference to "him" on Oprah.com. Today is June 22/2014.

writerforlifeify Interesting "coincidence," ten years to the day! I have come to the conclusion that teaching and learning are two sides of the same coin. In other words, there is a great learning that naturally occurs within the teacher, evolving over time, as he grows in his abilities to reach people in new ways that never occurred to him before. Perhaps the idea came to Mattie, pre-birth, that his message of hope and optimism would be much more powerful if it were delivered from the lips of a physically broken child who is destined to live a short life. I know it has had that effect on me. Plus Mattie’s soul gets to experience the life of a short-lived, handicapped child in order to better understand what the experience is like from the “being level,” as opposed to the intellectual level. Something to think about, anyway. Cheers!

Good point! Many are they who harbor knowledge/wisdom but few are they who can powerfully and effectively transmit their repertoire of truths. One sees it consistently on the smaller playing field of the workplace; managers with zero ability to train new hires or schoolteachers without a talent for communicating a lesson in such a way that it 'sticks'...and sadly far too many simply don't really care; a full classroom equals a paycheque, nothing else. Truly talented & passionate teachers are among the rarest of gems. On the other hand, in the grand scheme of things, everyone regardless of profession or motivation, serves, on some level, as both an (inadvertent) teacher AND student as long as they continue to draw breath. The most enlightened souls, from my observation/reading, often tend to choose the most difficult circumstances into which to be born, thereby intentionally setting up the best possible context in which to fulfill their mission.
