Australia legend Steve Waugh looks back on one of the most disciplined Test innings of all time, when Sachin Tendulkar hit 241 in Sydney and refused to play a favourite shot
VK18 can never reach this level of mental toughness.. nobody in the current Indian batting line up understands what "Occupying the crease" means in Test Cricket.
No offence but these are players of the era of t20 and t10s.. they belong from the era of tiktok short videos, how do you expect them to have a concentration level like their predecessors had... 🙂
Coming here to witness this legendary innings after Kohli's dismissal in the 2nd innings of the WTC 2023 final! The current team should learn from innings like these and create a mental fortitude to play such innings! ❤🫰🏻 Sachin👑
I am sure King Kohli will return to form soon bro, King Kohli will score lots of runs in the last 2 Test Matches of this series and get back into form for the next few years.
Watching Kohli struggling realises me how tough it is to come back stronger when you are the one who set examples.... that man's focus, concentration, determination and temperament was of GOD LEVEL.... i think now i can understand that why they have choosen this term...."GOD OF CRICKET"
That was different pitch altogether that was in england this is in Australia and that was in final although this one also in Australia which is equally difficult to play but still you can't compare this one to that
@@user-ix4un7yh3t To achieve victory, one must sometimes relinquish things dear to them without dwelling on comparisons or pitches. Success may require letting go of personal preferences for the greater goal.
in this series, every batsman had atleast one special knock. Ganguly in Brisbane, Dravid and Laxman in Adelaide, Sehwag in Melbourne, Sachin in Sydney.
His patience is commendable. His ability to read the ball and convert the outside off stump deliveries into cuts and leg-side drives is what makes him an absolute genius of the game.
Do you know Brett Lee was that much nervous as he denied to bowl so Tuggas had to request Damien Martyn to bowl (this was also Tugga's last test match). Ref: Out of my comfort zone :an autobiography of Stephen Waugh).
For me, this test series is still going on Live in my memories. The result was 1-1. These 2 team were inseparable. And even as an Indian fan, no one would forget that it was Steve Waugh last match, such an emotional moment for him as well his team and Australia. We are also glad that we got honoured seeing Steve Waugh retiring playing with India as his last match 🙏 Wish that time come back again.
Yes..before that we used to surrender in australia..this tour we batted well..macgrath unavailability also made huge difference and we also tried to make most of his absence ..we were lucky and played some good test cricket ..school days were crazy
Sportspersons often have muscle memory, especially someone like Sachin who has been playing for years. It is instantaneous and instinctive to go for a cover drive when the ball is bowled outside off. To not give into that instinct for 431 balls is some seriously amazing mental fortitude. Surely one of the greatest ever innings in cricketing history.
@@vaibhavsen5032 no bro still he scored century there.but original virat flow was not seen.he was bit struggling .those who watched live they only know ........i hope as soon as he will come in his flow
Man..yet another tendulkar fanatic! Esp for a guy who played for records and a run machine. Went missing several times in 4th innings of test matches(esp abroad). Failed in crucial world cup matches(1999 Aus, 2003 aus, 2007-SL, 2011 SL). Other than Sharjah 98, this innings, Chennai 99, Perth 92..i cant remember any 100s resulting in India win. Even headingley 193 came after the openers batted England out. He just cashed in on a flat pitch, which he does 90 pc of times. Kohli miles better!!
@@IITianProudIndian are u on weed... So u raised many statements (not stats) and where should I start??? Eg : Sachin's average in finals is 96 compared to 12 to that of Kohli... Sachin played for records??? So now videos of past cricket matches are available in youtube and just check the state of Indian team when he was cheaply out (eg...96 WC Semifinal) Sachin played in a mediocre team and Kohli played in high profile Indian team and still Sachin's majority of 100s resulted in success... And also if u r closing ur eyes and stating that Sachin's majority of 100s resulted in a loss(which is not a fact), then that actually shows the great sportsmanship of him as he was the lone wolf in the team... "We didn't lose to team India but instead lost to Sachin" - U might heard about this famous quote...
@@nms6077 Dear friend, all the idiots who praise Kohli to unimaginable extent are completely in denial mode and are super-ignorant about the team efforts of a selfless player like Sachin Tendulkar. It's better that such minds be left with their own well of thoughts and opinions. To know the truth, do read my comment to this video about the idiot endlessly praising fans of Virat Kohli.
Today in 2022 when I see that virat is struggling for runs then I remember how great Sachin was.....some years ago many of people were saying that Kohli is better than Sachin...I think now they got the answer who is great...Kohli is great no doubt but Sachin is God
Yeah right kohli is good but can never be like sachin ... we should also keep in account that in those days there were no DRS due to that many potential good innings of sachin were wasted
Greatness is not just what you are capable of doing, it's also what you can stop yourself doing when the occasion demands it. Sachin's 241* at Sydney without a single cover drive- this is class innings from Master Blaster.
This single inning is the tightest slap on the face of so called kohli fans. Kohli is greatest of current generation but Sachin was the greatest of all time.
I know it's been said countless times.. but cricket has never been the same since Sachin retired.. no more tension and anxiety when a batsman is batting.. no more sitting at the exact position and place in fear of getting him out.. Sachin is an emotion! Thankyou! :))
It was one of the most monumental innings of the time. Tendulkar was only 30 yrs old in Jan 2004. It was Steve Waugh's last Test match. The admiration and adulation in Steve's interview here says it all.
Forget runs, hundreds, records...this mental strength is what makes him sachin❤..I hardly think if anyone will have what he had in generations to come , let alone this generation.
I always come to this video for motivation. Without playing his favourite shot he make 241.What more can you learn about dedication and that too from the GOD of Cricket. This type of mental strength is needed to succeed in life. Pleasure growing up watching Sachin play. What a legend of the game.
The best thing about this innings is not that he decided not to play cover drives. It's he maintained it through the innings after scoring 100, 200....
Ganguly was under immense pressure and fought against the management to include Kumble in the squad and Kumble took 7 wickets in the same match and proved Ganguly right.
@@abhishekkr.7986 doesn't matter, he was a leader. Ms dhoni was terrible as a batsman all the time in challenging conditions yet he was the captain, one of the best there is. Ganguly despite his flaws amassed 18000+ runs...
The biggest regret of my life? I grew up while Sachin was at the peak of his career and I didn't go watch him live even once in a cricket stadium. I didn't have the money then. Today I can buy a VIP box anywhere for a match, but there is no SACHIN. EDIT : I have never received so many likes anywhere. In personal life, I am passing through a lonely phase at the moment and trust me, the likes/comments made me feel good. The legacy of Sachin lives on... Thank you friends.. I hope none of you ever feel lonely in your lives.
We have awarded him our highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna. (Like Hilal-e-Imtiaz) For us he is as loved as Imran Khan was for Pak. He & Kapil Dev were major reasons why cricket became like a religion in India!
@Kazuya Mishima come on man!! This has become a fashion to scold people online because they can't get you here is my explination this thread started from a Pakistani bro mentioning us including you(fool) and me all INDIANS so my reply was to him not you(fool)
This attitude is what sets him apart from others. To resist playing outside the off stump and amass 241 runs is beyond words. That shows his determination and mental strength.
@@digvijaykole6746 I know I'm killing the joke but if I remember correctly, he did play a cover drive after reaching 200😂 So you should definitely go and Propose Her!
🇮🇳We booo our own players, forget cheering for the opposite team for good game . British fans , Aussie fans are interested in the gameplay rather than the results.
This scenario is currently apt for Virat Kohli as well. For the past 2 years, He has been dismissed on playing outside off balls. I hope he finds a solution for this and comeback stronger. Team India really needs his old form back 🙂
He does not have the variety of shots to do this. Sachin was good at both foots. Virat is just a front foot player. No wonder he has a poor record in England, NZ.
India could have scored 700 at SCG in 2018 too but they declared before that. Scoring 700 isn't a matter of pride but shows the lack of confidence in the bowling line-up. I don't remember Australia having ever made 700+ because they're always confident that 500-550 is enough for their bowling attack.
@@arnabghosh5814 that's right... But that's the strength of bowlers nowadays..but imagine the Australian batting unit in those days... And compare it with the current batting unit.
@@arnabghosh5814 it was all about ego, best bowling attack? Ghanta we scored 700+...it was absolutely shame for Aussies then, that a team scored 700+ against them... today what u r thinking was not same 15+ years ago... today test matches gets ended in 72 hours..no quality batsman nor any quality bowler & at that time Australia was dominating force they ud bulldoze & bully every team..it was just giving them back....so that 700 at that context & time was huge huge moral booster.
It wasn't just no cover drives. He barely played any shot on the off side. I watched this innings live and it was one of the most incredible things I've seen.
The biggest battle is to battle the devil within yourself. To not play a cover drive in a test match is a real character and get to 241* is the reason why he is the master
To the people who wants kohli to try the same, sachin had more shot varieties than most batters including kohli. So, for sachin he can stop playing some shots, like during the back pain era he stopped coming down to pitch and attack the spinners. he got lots of varieties in his arsenal. It's not everyones cup of tea....
@@krishanchawla366 He is not talking to kohli budhbak. He clearly said - to those people, so he is addressing the people in the comment section Bech mai kudne se pahle samajh to le point kya hai

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar the real enigma and the only indian cricketer who gave sleepless nights to even the best Australian team ever.
Dj prithvi what r u smoking ? Tell me a single instance where dhoni got standing ovation in Lords and australia If he got then it's because of indian fans ...
One of the greatest inning ever played by an overseas player on their soil. Steve Waugh was gracious enough to admit he was blown away by his enormous mental strength and that he didn't play his favourite shot throughout the inning. Don't know why i was emotional and had a lump in my throat watching this clip over and over again just for what it is. A masterpiece
exactly bro....I too do have my heartbeat dropped down whenever I see this video...it has got something about it... that something is Sachin's aura that he used to have and still has as the "God of Cricket". When something like "we didn't have the answers, he just was too good, we couldn't get him out" comes from the greatest Australian Captain then that man would be GOAT. He'd be none other than Sir Sachin Tendulkar.

I remember convincing parents and friends to miss an internal assessment in a high school back in 2011-12 when Sachin was about to score 100th hundred against Windies in Mumbai Test against the West Indies attack comprising of Rampaul and co. It was a magical innings for me personally as it was one of the first tests I ever watched. Though he got out before the school could even begin at around 10 am that day, and I didn't need to miss anything, the memories of that innings are etched forever in my sporting spectator memory..
In 1986, my friend mentioned about a great future batsman from Mumbai, 13 year old Sachin Tendulkar ! And I just read one day that he was going to play in Hyderabad. I bunked college (the only time in my life) and went to see the little genius. It was a treat to watch ! A small boy playing fluent drives, with the ball kissing the green carpet at Gymkhana grounds, Secunderabad to the boundary ! He scored 40 odd runs, but it was a wonderful smooth innings...And I remember it like yesterday !! Fantastic player !!! The greatest batsman & most humble & disciplined player ever !!
What a legend Rather than fighting He simply ignores that which got him out Many people take revenge on their ego He simply accepted the fact that he is not so good on cover drives in that moment
