1:39 wow, I didn’t know they regulate the engine’s power in such a specific way. Is it similar to series such as GT3? If so, maybe this deserves a standalone video! Would love to see a breakdown of something like this ^^

Great analysis. Porsche Quality In some pics a small cylinder on each rear CV shafts can be seen. There are wires so it's clear they are sensors but i have no clue what they are, too big to be speed sensors.

Thanks! The wheel speed sensors are at the inner side at the gearbox. These cylinders could be torque sensors which measure torsion within the drive shaft.

The more we deconstruct these cars technically the more intriguing this category becomes. I am very curious to see how Cadillacs N/A entry performs over the course of the season. Viva B Sport!

How does the side gurney create downforce? Traps high pressure outwash on top or somehow works with the underfloor?Great video as always btw! Surely think you are the most knowledgeable automotive channel out there!

since the air below the undertray and the footplate is also out washing at that point if you can put a gurney there it basically works like a wing looking sideways. Doing what gurneys does it effectively adds camber to the system there. While reducing the static pressure at the exit of the footplate to extract more flow

Wow, I didn't realise how precise you have to be with the BoP regs. And potentially having to change the output every week must add a lot of engineering complexity

Very detailed analysis as always! Though I wonder whether this hot-V setup will somehow affect the dampers' temperature by having all that heat near them. Though I suppose the turbos are far enough and sufficient heat is evacuated.

Thanks! You have to keep in mind that the exhaust gas already exits before the dampers and they used thermo isolation of the pipe until the end. So it should be fine.

Stay tuned tomorrow in case RACER gets a HD close up view of the 963 engine if the Porsche team allows it. BMW as willing to allow one to be shot today and you get a very detailed look at the car's engine.

A video about the regulations and performance windows for LMDh and LMH would be cool. I for example had no idea that the power curve is regulated so heavily. Also there is still a lot of misinformation about how the hybrid system works/deploys in LMH/LMDh.

A shame these cars didn't show better at Daytona. They really had the potential but kept getting hamstrung by issues. The pace seemed to be there. I think Penske came away with some good notes. Sebring will likely be a very different event. Great info. One of the best analyses so far.

Very nicely analysed and explained. Small observation "isolation" is "insulation" in English. Porsche have clearly understood that if the rules limit the engine technology, the difference must be found elsewhere.

Very interesting analysis. Amazing to see the comparisons between the cars, and the different design choices. One disadvantage I see see with the hot V setup is that the turbos, intercoolers and all the tubing required, are high mounted which raises the center of gravity. Besides that, the intercooler tubing is rather long compared to Acura.

You are right, the Acura has a shorter path behind the intercooler but its high sitting water-air intercooler isn't light as well.

@@BSport320 Thats true, its a disadvantage on that point. I don’t know if you saw Racer’s video on the ARX-06 engine, bit it was mentioned that the engine was so light they were required to use ballast that could be placed very low to lower the CoG. Could be another advantage with the small V6.

This is so different from all the other cars I'm surprised it's not just LMH (maybe they just needed to classify as LMDh to also run at Daytona?)

No they don't both lmh and lmdh can race at Daytona. The Porsche's still using the lmp2 based chassis and standard hybrid system which is why it's lmdh to keep it simple

Another reason why porsche put the 918s exhaust on top was to keep the hot exhaust gases away from the temperature sensitive batteries

I'm curious about 7:51, if the design is about efficiency and gentle air treatment, then why have one side of mirror taller than the other. I mean i'm not an engineer so i don't really know the details, but is it irrelevant enough to the overall flow that they decide to just leave it at that?

I thought it was the angle, but you are right! The left mirror is higher than the right one. Aerodynamically it doesn't make a too big difference but they might do that for driver visibility.

Do you have any predictions for the Rolex 24 at Daytona this weekend? I think the easiest prediction is that Acura or Cadillac will be able to get the win, but I'm not going to overlook BMW or Porsche. The turbo-charged cars come to life during the overnight hours as temperatures drop. Also, considering BMW and Porsche are both using an engine that's proven reliable in DTM and LMP2 shows the ICE should last the 24 hours. The biggest question for the German manufacturers is if they can avoid turbo and electronics issues since they are new additions to those power units. I have a strong feeling if on track incidents are avoided, either BMW or Porsche will take the victory.

Porsche finished their 3rd endurance test when Cadillac and BMW had their roll out. BMW says they will be „happy to finish the race“ and „the project feels like rolling a stone up a hill“ so far. I would watch out for the experienced Acura and Porsche.

​@@BSport320 You're objectively 100% on point. I wasn't aware of the extensive testing from Porsche. I think it's going to be a close battle between the two and hope both won't suffer reliability issues so we get a very close battle. I wonder how the higher RPM V6 is going to compare with Porsche's V8. Maybe the Porsche will have more torque while the Acura has slightly quicker acceleration. I guess we won't know until Saturday.
