I know this an older video. I myself won’t own a 6.5 Creedmoor because as you stated everyone’s mother owns one. I recently picked up a 25-06 in the Browning X-Bolt. Haven’t shot it a lot, but so far I am really liking it. Can hardly wait til 2024 deer season

I love 6.5 mm cartridges, .260, 6.5 CR, 6.5x55 swd, and 6.5- 284 Norma all grace my safe and I have taken deer with all of them. That said, if I need to shoot across a beanfield into another zip code, my Weatherby 25-06 with 117 gr SSTs is my choice.

Browning made the 25-06 bar and I have used mine for many years. Looking for a flat shooting whitetail catcher it will work. I also bought the 6.5 cm in a bolt action. I like it well. But they are completely different in what they do. If I am shooting inside 300 yards I’d take the 25-06. But Long range becomes easy with the 6.5 cm. My 2cents.

I have been a 25-06 shooter since 1996 and handloads for it. The 25 caliber rounds are like the 16 gauge in shotguns (which I also like). They just work. I have many deer, coyotes, and ‘chucks to show for it. There are now some 131, 133, and 135 gn high BC bullets for it but you will need a 1-7 or 1-8 twist. Since I am an east coast hunter, I am not taking 400 yd shots on game, so the 25-06 is more than adequate.

In my opinion, for deer hunting purposes at open country the .25-06 is clrearly a superior cartridge. The flat trajectory may allow the hunter shoot at farther practical ranges over the 6,5 creedmoor, which is quite an advantage, especially when there is no time to use the range finder. Also, the bullet's high speed compensates the "lower B.C" while carrying more energy. Tightening the barrel twist for using heavier bullets would be a sin, as it would result in loosing the cartridge's advantages in order to mimic the 6,5 creedmoor.

My Remington 600 Mohawk in 250 Savage shooting hand loaded 80 gn TTSX's at 3300 fps is basically perfect in my opinion. I wouldn't trade it for either of these. Just like I wouldn't trade a 308 for a 30-06, because it is not enough gain to have to carry all that extra length. As for the CM I will never own one as I believe it to be a leading indicator of mental illness!😊

You picked right. When I first herd of 6.5 cr I learned 143 grain ELD X has same bal. Out to 400 yards. as my old 06. So you were right when you said it was not flat shooting. Many cal. Will shoot flater than the cr. Always good info. on any calibers you discus. I hand load and achieve much better vol. for 30 06 than all data available love that rifle cal. Excellent video keep them coming.

Always need to define and clarify “flat shooting” with tremendous nuance. “Flat shooting” to a guy that never shoots beyond 300 yards (me) is going to mean something very different than to a guys that shoots 1000 yards. I’ll take a 270wsm with a 129lrx all day long.
@Roninx1980
@Roninx1980 Год назад
25-06 is a great round. But I think the big thing here is availability. You’d have to hand load these for the 25-06, where as you’re gonna find the 6.5 CM everywhere. No special new barrel needed. If you want to spend the extra cheddar to get a little more speed over the 6.5 CM, hey it’s your money, but I’d like to spend my money elsewhere. Why buy a rifle in a cartridge and change it up just so it can beat the 6.5 CM? Just choose a better suited cartridge from the beginning… 🤷🏽‍♂️

The 25-06 was the only rifle I had for a long time, took everything from jackrabbits to bull elk with it. Mine had a custom 26” barrel on it. Awesome rifle. 120 Partition at 3100 with IMR 4955. A ponderous load. Got a 6.5 Creedmoor last year for my daughter. 13 years bold on her first deer hunt. Tikka t3x. Awesome rifle. Shoots great. 44.4 grains superformance will push a 143 eldx at 2850. I could only get 2750 out of the Norma Bondstrikes. And it’s a lot cheaper to shoot than the 300 win mag shooting 78.1 grains retumbo and a 212 eldx at the same velocity. My infamous brother (if you’re from Utah you’d know who he was if I told you) hates everything that’s popular. Stuff gets popular for a reason, besides just marketing. It’s got to work on some level. I think the creed is a neat cartridge that’s opened the door to a lot more possibilities in our little bolt gun world. Before it no manufacturer was seating bullets like that or changing twist rates like they are now. The only innovation was to try and do what Saint Roy of Weatherby had done 50 years before, make the same bullet seated the same way (let’s not get into the wonders of freebore here) go faster by putting more powder behind it. Having a flat shooter is great while hunting, but trying to get to extended ranges, arc isn’t a bad thing.

Ever since I handloaded my first 257 Wby cartridge and dropped a whitetail in its tracks at about 350 yards, I've had no desire for any other quarter bore. As far as the Creedmo' goes, I have one in a Ruger Precision Rifle and a Weatherby Vanguard. Wanted to see what all the hubbub was about. I don't sing its praises because for me, the 6.5×284 Norma is my preferred 264 zapper. It shoots flatter and definitely his harder.

I have a lot of respect for the 6.5 Creedmoor. But, I’m 68, and already have a .25-06, a 7mm-08, and a .264 Win. Mag. The longest kill I’ve made on a deer is 500 yards. I simply have no need for the Creedmoor, as good as it is.

I love the 25/06 I shot elk with it one time! I killed a cow with a 120 grain nosler partition. One shot at a standing animal in the wide open it went straight down. I won’t use it again. It’s an awesome open country whitetail rifle! Kicks less then the 30/o6 and the 270! But I use it for what it’s designed for mostly! I don’t even use it in the woods or brush for deer I use my 308! If I ever get the chance to hunt elk again I have a Remington model 700 in 270 Winchester I’m gonna have re-barreled to a faster twist barrel when they come out! Keep that as my elk rifle! I’ve never killed a nice bull!

I would chose the Hornady Superformance ammo in 7-08 or 270. The 270 @ 400y 18.8" drop and 1497 foot pounds, the 7-08 21.6" drop and 1575 foot pounds. Easy peasy, common & available ammo and no requirement to get a custom built rifle to shoot 1/4 bore heavy for caliber bullets.

Those numbers from the 270 and 7mm-08 are if you're sighted in at 200 instead of 100. Certainly the 270 and 7mm-08 are much more versatile than a 25-06

You got me wanting another Weatherby cartridge chambered rifle lol. Mostly due to having to use copper bullets at certain locations, and I’m wanting the velocity to ensure expansion. I’m thinking either the 257 with an 80 or 100 grain ttsx. Was considering a 6.5-300, although seems like even with a 127 ttsx, the 257 may be the better option. No really too concerned with barrel life. If I did a 6.5-300 I would prob have two barrels spun up at the same time lol.

What a great idea for a comparison! I see the 25 -06 as a borderline obscure cartridge. On the flip side, the 65 Creedmoor is the opposite. I am a sucker for obscurity so I'm with you on the choice. I've never been a fan of the Creedmoor as a hunting round. I just like other choices. But if you pick up a 25-06AI with a sharper shoulder and a 1:8 twist 24" barrel, I think you would beat the beloved Creedmoor in basically all types of shooting. Really great comparison! And you even showcased that 25- 06 AI and it's right here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c0IV0yb17MA.html
