Ive spent a lifetime hunting with a .308Win, .270 Win and most recently a 6.5 Creedmoor. I doubt seriously a person could examine the wound channel of a deer taken with one of these cartridges and be assured in guessing the cartridge which was used. In my opinion, these three cartridges all perform nearly identically on deer sized game. A poorly made shot will lose game even if you shoot a 300 mag.

So the guide can’t find deer shot with the 6.5cm but people in Europe have been killing moose with the 6.5x55 and they both have the same weight bullets running the same speed. Must be some big whitetail deer where he’s at. 🤷🏽‍♂️. Obviously I like the cm and if you are not killing whitetail with that you are not hitting em in the right spot with a good bullet. Compare that to the 50 grain 22-250 that you’re using. The cm is a way better choice than the 22-250. At least in my experience and yes I’ve used both. Use what you like they all work. I like them all. Happy hunting 🦌

@@fredrickwaldon1579the 6.5cr does make sense. it was developed as a 1000yd target round. a higher twist rate stabilizes a long bullet reducing wind drift, the variable hardest to compensate in long range. that along with low recoil makes an accurate 1000yd target round. what doesn't make sense is to make 6.5cr a go to deer cartridge. the 6.5cr could be a target gun that the wife and kids also shoot and someone could hunt with it as a multi-purpose rifle...what makes no sense is to argue about it when hopefully it's nobody's only gun

I prefer the 7mm08. I've had numerous people say, "the 6.5 has a flatter trajectory, the 7mm08 is a lot more expensive etc" but for me what I hunt and the fact that I don't practice with my 7mm08, it's far superior to the 6.5 . It has better penetration, is capable for all the distances I've ever killed game (including elk) and my Weatherby will put 5 shots within. 0.5 inches every single time I test it out before a hunt. I used to shoot a 30- 06 but my Weatherby is lighter with less recoil, Win win. Just my experience , they've been dropping quicker with the 7mm08 too...better bullet selection, better placement??? I don't know, just the way it's turned out for me.

I bet if the .30-06 was the hotness and they were taking out a bunch of inexperienced shooters carrying .30-06 rifles, they would say the same thing. It's a pretty common theme in hunting magazines etc. Someone goes into a deer camp with a new cartridge and they guys there tell them that anything less than a 300 Win Mag isn't enough for deer hunting. I also wonder if these supposed guides are just not that good at tracking. Have they ever tracked a deer shot with bow and arrow? The 6.5 Swede has been used for decades to kill moose, the 6.5 Creed is it's ballistic twin. Put a hole in a deer's lung and you should be able to track it.

My biggest beef with the 6.5CM is how so many think it will automatically turn on God Mode for them and even make them a sandwich while they're waiting for the deer to magically go in their freezer. I keep seeing videos and reading articles about how it's so much superior to every other round ever created, or will be created in the near or distant future. Personally, I love my .308 Winchester rifle. It will consistently place 5 rounds of 150gr Core-Lokt seeds into a half inch group at 100 yards, as long as I'm on top of my game. Ammo availability makes for a lot more practice time for me. On the subject of the 6.5CM and so many lost deer, you never seem to hear about everyone losing deer to the 6.5x55, even when they use the old n' slow roundnose loads. Same with so many other rounds. You said it yourself; the 6.5CM is a fad cartridge. And I'm willing to bet boxes of Remington ammo stacked *THIS HIGH* that 99.9% of those jumping on the fad-wagon never practice with their rifles, which would lead to Stormtrooper levels of sloppy shooting. If you were to show up with a 6.5CM, none of those guides would worry one bit, because they know you have practiced extensively with your rifle, and that you will place your shot with 100% accuracy to harvest the animal clean and quick.

Agree most of these shooters are probably not practicing with their Creeds. I've hunted with the 6.5 cm for the last 5 or 6 years and I've loved it. It's the do everything pretty well rifle. I've used 243, 7mag and the 6.5 CM and will continue to go CM for deer. Now if I go for elk or bigger game then I'm probably going 7mag. It's a great round if you understand its capabilities.

I bought 6.5 creedmoor because of damaged shoulder. Discovered I could shoot a lot more without shoulder pain so I spent more time practicing. 22 deer killed and 1 lost. People try to tell me I lost a deer because it was 6.5. Yet they will let slip they have lost deer shooting 7mm mag, 308 and even 300 win mag. Placement is crucial. More practice lets me shoot better and test my equipment. Just added a 7mm-08 in the ruger as well. Muzzle brake makes it comfortable to shoot a lot and practice as well. I agree that one should use hunting bullets for hunting - but Ultimate Reloader as well as BackfireTV have both got great videos showing that the Hornady ELD-M is actually a very good bullet. I have also used it for hunting and took over 15 Gemsbok with it in my .308, ranging from 50m out to 300m. About as many Warthogs as well. No issues. But I would still not recommend it, since hunting bullets have a Guaranteed performance, since they are specifically designed to expand in specific way and retain a specific amount of weight. Match bullets don't have that.. they do expand and retain weight like any other cup and core bullet would, but there is no guarantee for how much or how little.

Not sure he spent anytime at a gun range after WW1 to be fair, he was just feeding his kids, and later his grandkids. The bullets do the work. If these are guides, they should be quizzing their hunters on bullets they’re using and making them shoot paper before they hunt to confirm ability.

@@phild9813the Hunter who cannot shoot a 6.5CM accurately is going to be less accurate with any of the "bigger" cartridges. The "extra " power of the 6.5+ rounds won't make it more likely the same Hunter gets a clean kill. Indeed, I the the Hunter will be less likely to kill the deer cleanly.

One of the many good things about the 6.5 Creedmore is that it fits the standard 308 size action both in bolt guns and in AR-10. I have had many one shot kills with my Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmore and only one buck that went less than 20 yards. My daughter has also taken several with the same gun and she has actually taken even more deer with the 6.5 Grendel. I will always use my 30-06 and 25-06 but I do enjoy and have had no issues taking whitetail deer with the 6.5 Creedmore. Also I like to shoot ALOT and the PRC and the Weatherby cost a lot more, especially in factory ammo. Thanks for the great video

With a 22” barrel the 6.5 creedmoor is terminal out to 200 yards with a 140 grain class bullet like the 143 eldx. Great for in the woods and short range. My range that I shoot on average is 400 yards. I use the 6.5 prc. At 400 yards it kills deer dead in its tracks. Velocity wise the 143 eldx out of 6.5 creedmoor in 22” barrel is 2530. Where the 6.5 prc out of a 26” barrel is average 2990 fps with the 143 eldx. I load my own ammunition and chrono my loads. Generally the velocity the factory gives is way off. You need to chrono the loads your shooting.

Are those soft point bullets? If so I hated the soft points, always put the animal down, not necessarily immediately and they tended to waste a lot of meat. I switched to Hornady GMXs and they've been great. Some kind of hollow point or bonded bullet is my suggestion. Something designed to open up but not break apart. Just my two cents.

It is basically nothing more than the American version of the 6.5x55 or 6.5x57. Both calibers are successfully used in Europe for roe deer and elk hunting, especially in Sweden! Only the 6.5 Creedmoor is stronger. Usually the error is behind the rifle and not on the rifle or the caliber!

Having the luxury of a few decades of time and experience, let me add a bit of perspective. Not much, if anything, that the Creed will do, that the .260 Remington won't do with the same parent case, and a couple of REAL old Mossbacks that the Europeans introduced, the 6.5x55 Swede and 6.5x57 Mauser, as well as the Mannlicher-Schonauer, and others that have all proven deadly on a lot more game, and on more continents. Now, to the other two rounds... I'll just say 6.5-06, and .264 Winchester Mag. Check the load data, and pay attention to barrel length! The original .264s had 26" tunes, not 24 and certainly not 22 like some data I've seen. So at 70 years old, what do I reach for? Used to be .308. The. 308 and 270. But the last 35 years or so, I started packing a nice little .257 Roberts on a VZ33 Mauser, 24 inch lightweight and a slim little piece of English walnut, and shoot anything I want to carry with a 120 gr Hornady HP.

I always used a 270 for deer, and Daddy used his 30-06. He switched to a 243 years ago and it's plenty to take a deer. I wanted a shorter action lighter recoil for deer hunting and was going to get a 243 until the 6.5 Creedmoor came out. I though cool. I can use this for everything I'd hunt including elk out to what I consider ethical hunting distances with the right bullet. Copper bullets are the way to go. You can take an elk with a bow. The key is shot placement and through and through to drop their blood pressure quickly. A copper bullet in a 6.5 will easily do that. Anyway, people hate change. No wonder the Creedmoor gets no love. Anyway, there are a lot of hunters who lose deer because they are not skilled at stalking and shooting. :)

Grew up hunting farmland in northern Michigan. One buck tag and however many farm doe permits my grandfather had left when we made it up there. If I was on the open fields I went with the .300 win mag. Always one shot and the only time I had to go very far from where it was shot was because the deer fell toward the downside of the trail and rolled to the bottom of the ravine. My dad found a .264 win mag at a pawn shop. Part of a three gun set of Winchester model 70's (looked like from one owner). Wish he had bought the other two, but water under the bridge. Lower Michigan you could not hunt with centerfire at that time, so my go to was a Winchester 1300 with rifled barrel. Open sights out of the box shot a 3 shot group under 1 1/2". But my eyesight was better back then. I also had more time to go to the range back then. Shot placement is definitely the key. Everyone we had to help track their deer didn't practice and took shots they were ill equiped to make. Don't take a shot you have not practiced! Thanks for these videos Who Tee Who. I mean, really the 6.5 Creedmoor was just an experiment by some guys at Hornady, necking up and down their .30 Thompson Center to see what works, until guys in competition realised how good the "6.5-30 TC" really is. They weren't really thinking about the .260 Remington - there's a very good podcast by Hornady about the creation of the Creedmoor. It's a shame the .284 Win case isn't more popular - the .284 Win Improved (.284 Shehane) was just about the most popular cartridge in top tier 1000yds F-Class until they started necking up the 6.5 PRC to make the 7 PRCW. I atill think the .284 Win is one of the most balanced cartridges in terms of power, recoil and Long Range performance.

6.5 Creedmoor is becoming a fad. Most of the people I know are switching back to your traditional hunting rifles (308,270,300, etc..). Shot placement and distance are key. However, those two don't always come eye-to-eye and wounded animals go missing. The 6.5 don't have enough knocking power to compensate for a slight error in a hunter's shot when a kill is attempted. These rifle belong at the range not in the hunting field.

For me the 6.5 CM is the .380 ACP of the (ethical)hunting rifle world. Unless your physique really doesn’t allow you to shoot something more powerful, get a 3000 ft-lb cartridge like the 30-06. And if somebody flinches on a 30-06, that’s not genetics, just work it off.

I think one of the better positive’s regarding the Creedmoor is it’s lack of recoil, a shooter is more likely to spend time practicing when he/she isn’t getting the crap pounded out of them and that should transfer over to being better at shot placement, both the PRC, and the Weatherby have more recoil, especially the Weatherby and that would definitely scare away some shooters. I’m always a 270 fan, and I would definitely say that it’s my go to caliber for hunting in my neck of the woods. You missed another 6.5 ish in your evaluation, the 26 Nosler , it’s ballistics fall somewhere in between the PRCs and the Weatherby I think and it’s definitely got more felt recoil then the Creedmoor.

I agree with most of what your saying. I feel like the 6.5cm is a little light for deer. My son hunts deer with one but he was only 8 last year he did go 3 for 3 with it luckily. I want to move him on up to the 308 but feel like hes a touch small yet so we will probably continue with the cm this season. However... My predator hunting rifle is a 6.5cm in a ar-10 configuration. It works wonders on coyotes and is flatter shooting than the 308s. We commonly take 300yd shots with ease with thermals at night. My hunting buddy uses a ar10 243 and I'm here to tell ya that thing is a laser beam and kinda wish Id went with that caliber. But if yall remember 243 ammo was incredibly hard to find a year ago so I settled. Id like to see a video comparing all short action ar style chamberings vs each other. Ya know like 6.5 grendal vs 6.5cm vs 223 vs 350 legend vs 308 ect. We all know bolt guns in long action are going to mop the floor with these ar cartridges. At this point in time 6.5 creedmore is like having a 3006. They both just work and there are tons of options in guns and bullets.

The 6.5x55swedish will do anything the creedmore will do and do a better job of the task at hand and just as accurate if not more accurate

@@deandepew7455 I can’t agree more with you. My go to caliber for the last 20+ years. It’s very hard to find new guns or ammunition. So if you want one, you may have to settle for a 6.5 Creedmoor. Same bullet, same velocity, more available.

I'll put the .270 up against the 6.5 any given Sunday

Up here in the PNW, I've had my eye on an M77 22-250 mannlicher carbine. Short, light, fast, but gotta have .24 caliber minimum for deer, sadly. 6.5 cm is not a hunting round. It answers questions hunters never asked. Thanks WTH!

Leave the creed at home for hunting, yes its accurate but it dont have the shock factor, many Red deer stags in Scotland have stood after being shot but dont see this with 270, that PRC is enough for any deer and i like my 6.5x284 which runs at 3050 but would consider the PRC after this bbl

@@rgthomson1 Do you know that the sectional density of the 140 grain 6.5 bullet exceeds the 130 grain 277 caliber bullet. Meaning the 6.5 will out penetrate the .270. In fact, if you use the 165 grain European ammo makers like Norma for the 6.5 caliber, it would be a better choice than the 270 period.
