I'm a 1970 baby, so the 80s was age 10-19. So my interpretation of "back in the day" was definitely the 80s, I don't think I could be happier than being a kid in the 80s

Hey, there. Boomer here. I've used shampoo all of my life and so did my friends. Breck and Prell were huge in the 60s, not coming into use in the 80s. Also, cabbage patch babyland hospital is in Cleveland Georgia. It's close to Helen but it's not in Helen.

I think the $20 price tag for a cabbage patch doll was a bit optimistic. IIRC in the UK they were launched to coincide with Christmas 1983. Stupid prices of £350 were mentioned, (not too sure on the exchange rate back then, but that would be around I guess, $600?)

The 80s were the best! I was a teenager so I got to experience the best music, best clothes, and best experiences with friends because my whole time was just hanging out with them riding bikes, going to the mall, bowling, roller skating and when I was a little older…under 21 dance clubs. So lucky to grow up in that time. I was also a Toy’s R Us kid and that song will forever be in my brain.

@@nupeygirl09we won't unfortunately. Born in 83, I grew up in the 90s. I was a latchkey kid but we rarely locked our doors. My dad was a truckdriver and only home on the weekends but he'd still throw a huge cookout once a month and the whole block would show up. BBQ chicken, potato salad, classic Rock playing on the radio, cooler full of beer and soda. Even the cops would come hang out for an hour. You can't do things like that today because Karen will call 911 about the music playing and the cops will most likely tell everyone to go home because you're disturbing the peace and try to bust someone because my 15 year old self was drinking a beer in my own backyard around a group of responsible adults that knew me since the day I was born, SMH.......I was too young to remember much of the 80s but the 90s were amazing. I would drive around my small PA Town when I was 14 and the cops would me if I didn't stop completely at a stop sign or something instead of impounding the car and writing a dozen citations for my parents and I. Those days are gone. What ruined it? The Internet, smart phones, social media, but yet here we are 🫤

I remember Morris the 9 Lives cat!! I'd say he was the original Grumpy Cat. In fact he was the mascot for my 4th Grade teacher Mr. Morris (1986). The other thing about his class that I remember was he had a 2 sided apple. 1 side was a perfect red apple, but turn it around & it had gone bad and being eaten by a worm (the worm was where the stem should've been). That was his visual warning that we were about to go into a time out (putting heads down for 5 mins) if we didn't start behaving.

I was a teen in the 80s (graduated in '89). The craziest thing to me was how the advancement of computers and video games differed. With video games, whatever system you bought dictated the game format. The formats were largely proprietary, and that trend is largely still followed today. Computers were the same way in the 80s. IBM and the clones were largely for business, but home computers were made by the likes of Commodore, Atari, Timex, Radio Shack, Coleco, Apple, and many others. If you bought one brand, you couldn't use software and peripherals designed for another brand. Fast forward to today, and unlike video games, computers are mostly standard fare across the board with only their OS's being different and dictating the software (but not the peripherals). We also had the precursor to the Internet- dialing up and logging onto BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems). It was very primitive, and the dial-up speeds were painfully slow. My modem had "acoustic couplers," meaning you picked up the phone's handset and put it on the rubber parts of the modem- and the modem ONLY worked for phones where the headset had the protruding ear and mic pieces (think: standard desk telephone of the era). The wall phones where the headset only had a slight curve didn't work! Oh, and none of us kids with computers had a hard drive- way too expensive. But my Commodore 64 had a floppy drive the size of a shoe box and a "Datasette" to store programs on cassette tape!

18:03 What was your favorite thing about the '80s? Even though I was a very early adopter of technology I had a portable computer in 84, which was basically unheard of $6,000 for a computer that had two 170K floppy drives and a 6-in green screen, and a 10 MB hard drive, it even had a 300 baud modem that never got FCC approval so we could never get software for it. Anyway I was a very early adopter of technology I worked in IT I built computers I taught a class on how to build computers but the absolute best thing about the '80s was no internet, you would go out and see people you would have a telephone that was at your house and if somebody wanted to call you and you weren't home they just had to wait until you got home. There was so much stuff that was so much better because people interacted with people not just computers. If I could snap my fingers and have one thing disappear it wouldn't be half the population of the universe it would be a lot of the technology that has come about since the '80s or at least how people interact with that technology. The '80s were the absolute best time to grow up, because we actually spent time outside we got to know people and then as adults or young adults we got all the stuff that everybody has now. All that stuff in my opinion detracts from the human experience.

Prior to 1985, jet engines were of such poor maintenance quality that twinjet aircraft couldn't fly more than an hour away from an airport. Although attitudes began to change with the arrival of the Airbus A300 and A310, it was the Boeing B767 that made history not just for featuring the world's first digital display cockpit, but also the ability to fly more than two hours when it flew from Boston to Paris non stop. Since then, other twinjets have flown further than ever before, replacing quadjets and trijets on these ever growing routes.

In the mornings with no school I got up, ate while watching cartoons for 30 minutes or less, grabbed my Huffy bike, gathered up my friends, and we rode our bikes ALL DAY exploring, looking for snakes, lizards, frogs, went to a couple of cock fights , played kickball, baseball, and basketball until the sun went down! It was awesome! Kids these days don't do anything but play on their phones or tablets! It's true that they are smarter but we were tough! We were built to last!

I was using a waterbed up into 2010. Loved it. But getting out started to be a problem, so my wife and I got a Cali-king mattress to replace the water mattress.

The most ignored instructions, next to *"Do not insert in ear canal,"* is *"Wash. Rinse. Repeat."* _Repeat_ doesn't mean again in a separate shower, it means repeat that same wash. You're not getting *all* the grease and grime that first wash. A proper washing will have you going days between washes -- the more you're stripping your scalp of its natural oils, the more you're training it to produce it in overdrive, making your hair greasier faster. Mine is around 25" long and it's the best its ever been doing a small dollop, scrub the scalp, rinse, go back with a smaller dollop, scrub the scalp, the suds form, rinse it out. Condition mids-to-ends. Wash body while conditioner penetrates into the hair. Rinse everything. Leave-in conditioner to lock in the moisture. _Drug store shampoos put in fake suds. Good shampoos only sud when there's no oil to latch onto_

I was born smack in the middle of the 80's so I remember some of these things growing up and I have to agree with you on the water bed because when I grew up and turned 20 in the early 2000's I went out and got myself one to sleep on. Major regrets because that was literally the worse bed ever to try and get comfortable on and getting lucky was a real experience with twice the effort because of that dam bed. I was so glad when we got rid of that thing lol

My 1980 High School graduation present was a waterbed. I had that bed for about 10 years. At one point I had a Great Dane who would put his chin on the side until I said he could climb in at bedtime. 😍 🐾

I got my first water bed at the age of 7, I loved having that waterbed, I miss having a waterbed. To me, they were the best beds ever. It was the only bed that never hurt my back. The downside was if it sprung a leak and you didn't know it You might wind up with a room full of water, that happened to me once. You also had to make sure you took care of it properly. You had to put a special cleaner in it every month or the water could get moldy and damage the lining.

I was a child of the 80s and I am Scottish. I honestly feel that the freedom we had as country kids (actually small Island kids) just isn't the same now. Maybe on the Islands here in Scotland is still really safe, but it's still prefer to sit and verbiage with computer games. I'm legally blind, but even toy ugh my son by was slight truly better then, my friends looked after me, and we were out from morning till dinner time. As it didn't really get dark at night in summer, and was dark by 3 or so in winter, that wasn't an issue for us! Oh the nostalgia!!!!! Now though I still love the beach, and woodland with my Guide Dog!!!! And RU-vid and Audible lol

I loved the 80s! I had an a 17:00 rubics cube and when I became a parent I made sure my kids had them too. I loved the safety dance and 80s music in general. I also had a cabbage patch kid. And I never liked water beds. They scare me. But I do miss the 80s
