Batman Begins and Superman Returns should’ve started the DC Cinematic Universe. Both movies were one year apart from each other. Both movies were fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with fans and critics. Both movies looked and felt like they could’ve been in the same universe. Superman Returns referenced Gotham City. Not to mention, it grossed more money at the box office than Batman Begins. I Am Legend teased a crossover between them for May 2010. The billboard in Times Square had Christian Bale’s Batman logo and Brandon Routh’s Superman logo merged together.
Fluffy Dragon If they didn't make the batman vs superman maybe they would make one with robin partnered up with Christian bale but that is just a maybe
I know right. The voice really shows he is completely immersed in his Batman persona...in reality if someone dressed as a bat were to jump out at you in the night with that kind of voice it would be very intimidating so its very appropriate. The funny thing is even in the comics it is mentioned that his voice is supposed to sound like an over the top Clint Eastwood impression lol Bale= definitive Batman
I agree. I actually really like his voice. However, I want other actors to do things differently. This just feels unique to Bale's Batman. I actually really like how each Batman actor can have such different ways to express the character's voice.

I really liked Keaton, but Bale's was, in my opinion, better. His Batman seemed more human to me, he had more emotions. I don't think the voice was too much, it didn't bother me, I think it was a necessary element to someone that is supposed to strike fear into criminals.
Yeah, I never understand why people get so distraught about it. He's the most recognizable man in the city. His face and voice is on everything and he's around people who know him. Why would he not change his voice.
When I think of Batman I will always see Christian Bale...forever and always. I like Affleck and all but Bale was the truest to the original comic book character.
Riddler95 Keaton's Wayne and Batman were the same and he had no dimension, plus he was a killer and wanted revenge instead of justice. Voice sounded like he was just talking to a friend of his.
Bale probably didn't do it intentionally, but he inhabits his characters so fully that there might be a call back to the Bateman character going on some level. I assume you saw American Psycho since you made this comment. If so, then you know that Patrick Bateman is not in the best mental health, and he says in the beginning of that movie that he's basically empty inside. He's a shell. There's nothing there. So the whole time you see Patrick Bateman interacting with other people in that movie, HE'S PUTTING ON AN ACT!" Patrick Bateman is acting the way he thinks he is supposed to act to be accepted by the people around him (his peers on Wall Street - a very specific type of environment). But underneath, something is brewing. This is the same approach that Bale adopts in his version of Bruce Wayne - There's a real Bruce and a "Bruce Wayne Eccentric Billionaire" persona that is totally made up that he puts on as a disguise, so no one suspects him of being Batman. Instead of Wall Street, it's Gotham's high society/elite. Go back to Batman Begins and watch the scene where Bruce is talking to Alfred after Batman makes his first appearance in the newspaper. Bruce leaps out of bed, downs the green drink Alfred brings him and then before he drops down into those push-ups he asks Alfred what "someone like him" is supposed to do. He has no clue how a rich, young, Billionaire without a care in the world is supposed to act. Alfred answers (I'm paraphrasing here) "date beautiful women, drive expensive sports cars and buy things that aren't for sale." He literally does specifically those three things in the scene at the hotel when he arrives with two dates / women in an expensive sports car (Lamborghini) and pledges to buy the hotel (that wasn't even for sale) that he gets thrown out of for "just swimming" in the water fountain. The persona, the facial expression, the tone of voice he uses to talk to the other people at the table in that scene are very different from how he talks to Alfred and Rachel and it is somewhat reminiscent of Patrick Bateman yes. But the difference is that there IS someone behind the eyes in the case of the real Bruce Wayne. And while Bruce is not an ax murderer, he's not 100% mentally healthy either due to the psychological trauma that he has never healed from. Lastly, I'm sure you realize that he actually does buy that hotel by the time we see him in The Dark Knight (scene where he crashes Harvey and Rachel's date).
phil giglio For the same reason Leo Dicaprio, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Edward Norton, Harrison Ford, Jim Carrey, Will Smith, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr, Liam Neeson and a lot of other good actors never got one. The Oscar committees are corrupt commercial assholes, you gotta be in their little circle of friends to win one.
Luca Munro A hero can be anyone, even a man doing something as simple, and reassuring, as putting a coat around a young boys shoulders to let him know the world hadn't ended
Solus Darkcoat Yeah but I'm disappointed he didn't include in the video: Gordon: I never said thank you... Batman: ...and you'll never have to. **Jumps down building** THAT gave me goosebumps

I like how Christian Bale did his growling voice as Batman. Why does so many people dislike that?! It makes sense 'cause it helps him protect his secret identity from anyone!
+Nikolay Botushanov Martha Kent: "Be their hero, Clark. Be their angel, be their monument. Be anything they need you to be. Or be none of it. You don't owe this world a thing. You never did."
+Jonny Lupus Jennifer Garner leaving him is NOT a good thing for Ben, especially as time runs up to the movie opening. Also, Studio Executives typically do NOT stand up for ANYONE...except, maybe, themselves, you know? ;)

He's still the standard. I think there is allegiance to Michael Keaton. I get that. But Bale's performance is nuanced and complex and he just brings so much to it that no one else has. Also gotta say the dynamic between Bale and Caine (Bruce and Alfred) has also not EVER been topped on the big screen both because of the dynamic between the actors and because of the way Caine portrays Alfred. Alfred is a full blown character in this trilogy their relationship is FIRMLY established and believable. Pitch perfect.
You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Amazing quote but hard to take it seriously when hes talking like that and constantly looks out of breath
Bummed out you missed this excellent quote, probably one of the best of the trilogy Catwoman: Come with me. Save yourself. You don't owe these people any more. You've given them everything. Batman: Not everything. Not yet.
Last scene was one of my favorites, but how much better would it have been if he used his real voice. Would have made it more personal and profound as we realize Jim Gordon was his hero all along! Would also have been good to show him hit a switch on his cowl to make the growl appear to be a voice modulator
Hmmm. Not mad at that but he was almost in the air before Gordon connects the last dot. If that happens while Bruce is still there talking to him it’s not as poignant because the way it did happen Gordon can’t say anything to Bruce to acknowledge. It’s like damn he didn’t get to send him off properly…but that’s in keeping with Bruce’s self sacrifice throughout the trilogy including him saying you don’t have to thank me to Gordon about ten times 😌
Christian Bale is the most human Batman. I like Michael Keaton's portrayal and movies, but Bale's Batman is who I grew up with and anticipated each movie.
People complain about the Batman voice. But realistically speaking, if there was a real Batman, do you really think he'd speak in his natural voice, with that being said, already he has on a mask? So Bale's choice to alter his vocals, while being Batman makes sense. Bale was being realistic as possible.
Bale's the best actor who nailed the duality of the character while Bruce Wayne was still multi-dimensional. Afleck, while getting the duality down, only had to be old, bitter, angry Bruce.
Bale was awesome. It's a bit sad he didn't get to shine enough in the best movie from the trilogy, The Dark Knight. I think that's why people overlook his performance so much, because they only watch The Dark Knight and don't view these movies as a trilogy, the way they should be.
i love how alfred is always so supportive of him like when he starts talking about becoming batman in the plane he doesn't tell him he's lost it or anything he just goes "what symbol"
Right? LOLLOL. The relationship that those actors are able to bring to the screen between the two characters is the BEST portrayal on the big screen to date and that includes the Pattinson / Serkis attempt which is perhaps the worst. Didn't believe that pivotal relationship for a second.
Christian Bale is the best Batman fight me. His Bruce Wayne can’t be topped. He totally embodies the character. When he’s in the suit is when he’s at his weakest I will say. But in Batman Begins he was perfect.
