for me it's "not from a Jedi" and then that villainous head turn he did a lot in the prequels. It managed to be pure ham along with just great acting from Mcdurmuid
This is the one I was most looking forward too. When I was young (even before the prequels came out) I would try my hardest to imitate this line and his cackle, ha.
Honestly this is why Han's arc in ROTJ is underrated. It's basically about a normal guy surrounded in super-powered wizard people (Luke, Leia, Vader, the Emperor) who took responsibility for the single biggest part of the battle of Endor (disabling the shield generator). Sidious underestimated him
You didn't include when the Emperor said. "Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design. Your friends up there on the sanctuary moon are walking into a trap, as is your rebel fleet. It was I who allowed the Alliance to know the location of the shield generator. It quite safe from your pitiful little band. An entire legion of my best troops await them. Oh, I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive." Imo this is the best acting from Ian McDiarmid in any of the Star Wars movies because his enunciation and articulation are perfect.
"Did you ever hear of the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?" "Strike me down with all of your Hatred, and your journey towards the Dark Side will be complete!!!"
That is such a strange quote though. Luke has moral reasons to kill him there and then. No need to use hatred, just kill him as fast as possible. Palpatine is obviously armed, he's a fucking sith. And it would count as self defence, Palpatine took him there against his will and was planning to, you know, blow up planets.
@@Horesmi palpatine felt the hatred luke had towards him that's why he was trying to force luke to attack him. Old jedies learn discipline their whole life they would have just attack the sith lord out of the things u called not Luke though
@@sheevpalpatine810 basically thanos and palpatine is the most memeable villain like literally, every word that comes out of their mouth is memeable, i wonder what will happen if their both doing a meme battle LOL
Compared to the new Disney bullshit, these were lightyears ahead. The true moral and emotional dilemma of the characters and dark tone... Good old times.
@@adityabhalekar3506 Darth dewit was a dark Lord of the memes, so powerful and so unincluded, he could use the memeness to influence others to ... dew it.
This is a different bit, but I was always partial to, "Hey-- you want to see me tempt fate? Could this day possibly get any worse? I did it ironically, so I think I'm safe."
Luke: Your overconfidence is your weakness. Palpatine: Your faith in your friends is YOURS. I’ve always loved that quip. It shuts Luke the fuck up quick 🤣
You know for all the years I've been a star wars fan I just now realized that Vader was trying to downplay Luke, or at least hide his own plans for him from Sidious. Just listen to what he says, and how he says it.
Hey, remember at the end of Return of the Jedi, when Luke defeated Palpatine by out-forcing him using the power of force ghosts? That was so cool. I'm glad that movie had nothing to do with a son recognizing that he was traveling the same dark path as his father, forgiving his father for his mistakes, and in so doing turn away from that dark path and redeem his father all in one act of unspoken forgiveness. It would really suck if the Star Wars movies were about more than just pretty flashing lights and turning off your brain so you don't notice how stupid and nonsensical everything is. Yes, indeed.
@@IAmGodHimself777 Nope, buddy. Prequels were loaded with politics and campy dialogue from Hayden, per most people's complaints. But A. Star Wars was always rife with political undertones and B. Ian McDarmid is the king of Camp, and according to Lucas, the prequels went exactly as he'd wanted. No we're talking the abysmal Disney trilogy first headed by Abrams, then Johnson, then Abrams trying to course correct and it being just a splattered of FX and out of place lines.
@@IAmGodHimself777 It's all good. Many people have switched their mockery from prequels to sequels as they know the drop-off in quality is apparent. For a time even I had an issue with the prequels but looking back I know that Lucas had everything planned out. There was intent, unlike the lack of an overarching narrative and so everything was slapdashed into being nostalgia bait and subverting expectations the wrong way.
No one, and I mean ****ing no one, can portray the emperor other than Ian Mcdiarmid. The day this amazing actor is no longer with us, there can never be another portrayal of the emperor of any kind.
He never saw her give birth. Palpatine had him convinced he killed her on Mustafar when he force choked her. If she had died then, her unborn children would have also died.
Not only does Sheev teach me so much about the dark side of the force, he also does teach me the dark side of impeccable and refined conversational English. Hail to EngliSheeeev!!!
The fact that Luke's spirit couldn't be broken by his taunts goes to show the force was always strong with him. Palpatine underestimated him for sure. All that talk about "your friends are dying" while tie fighters are getting blasted left and right.
I allways noticed that Vader saved Luke's life when convincing the emperor to not kill him immediately. Vader still must have known that's his own death sentence, because of the rule of the two. I also think the only reason Palpatine agreed was to have an apprentice either way - Vader kills Luke or Luke kills Vader. He never would've considered either of them strong enough to become a real threat.
I believe it was necessary for Disney to do if they intended to stay loyal to George Lucas. Vader may be the most popular Star Wars villain of all time but Emperor Palpatine is by far the most important. I also feel that Disney established him the right way; he stays quiet and lies in the shadows for two movies, then fully reveals himself in the third movie.
@@AxeIRad: Yeah there was. When you make a movie, you write several drafts of a story. It’s possible that some drafts didn’t include Palpatine. What if for instance Ian McDiarmid would have turned down the role? It’s not like they just stick things together and see what fits. They have to draw it out.
You know this person is an OT purist when he includes every Palpatine line from episode 6 but leaves out "I love democracy" and "A surprise to be sure" and "Your arrogance blinds you Master Yoda" and the senate speech when he declares the start of the Empire.
Do you know the tragedy of Darth Vader the Asthmatic? He became so powerful, he even exterminated the younglings in the youngling infested jedi temple. But he became weak and his old master cut off his arms and legs.
One of the best emperor lines is missing! "You . . want . . . this?" It is an easy one to use in real life context. Some of the other ones are harder to fit in real conversation.
Very Good video, but Following quotes are Missing: 1. Dew it 2. A surprise to be Sure 3. My little Green friend 4. It's treason then 5. Fire at will 6. Soon the Rebellion will BE...
