"If you were looking for the opportune moment, that was it". This quote lives rent-free in my head and always hits differently when I miss an opportunity 😄😄
Jack: “If we don’t have the key, we can’t open whatever it is we don’t have that it unlocks. So what purpose would be served in finding what need be unlocked, which we don’t have, without first having found the key? Well our losses” him: 👁👄👁
+Alice Bright those were false allegations. His mother had died and his girlfriend was shouting at him so he had an emotional breakdown and Batman to shout at her. Leave the fucking man alone.
The funniest thing ever is that the storybook version of Pirates 3 that I have changed Jack's response to "Yes, that's not something I'd forget". I think they were either trolling or Depp changed the line during filming.
Always adored the dialogue used in these movies. To some they might have initially been seen as pirate movies for children and families based off of a rollercoaster but even something so simple (albeit essential) as the dialogue was always so good. It was so interesting, inventive and all around fun. One that comes to mind is the exchange with Jack and Norrington from the first movie: Norrington: 'You will then spend the rest of the voyage contemplating all possible meanings the phrase: Silent as the grave. Do I make myself clear?' Jack: 'Inescapably clear'. The interactions are so full of well constructed wit that they really help the characters form a greater, more accessible identity. The best example of course is Jack who, while often seeming crazy, a daydreamer or an idiot, is clearly extremely intelligent and capable, a true chess master who uses a front of eccentricity (regardless of how natural it might be to him) to fool, leverage and generally outmanoeuvre his opponents and his long winded tangents and deliberate verbal dead ends are a perfect example of the power of the script of these movies.
*I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.* My all time favourite.
My school has a weekly meme and they used that line for it. It said “There will come a time when you can study for you exams.” “I love those moments, I like to wave at them as they pass by.”
Disney talking about people liking Pirates of the Caribbean. Well you have waved your last waves since without Johny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, there aint Pirates of the Caribbean, its just worthless garbage at that point
Captain Jack Sparrow is the living incarnation of "if it looks stupid, but it works.. it ain't stupid." ..and pretty sure there wouldn't have even been a SECOND movie if Johnny Depp wasn't in it.. he MADE the movies great. Not many could make a character look badass AND goofy at the exact same time.
"You know, for all that pirates are clever clogs, we are an unimaginative lot when it comes to naming things." "Aye." "I once sailed with a geezer lost both of his arms and part of his eye." "What'd you call him?" "...Larry."
"This is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow". That quote hits differently now that he won. Hail brothers. Johnny Depp has won.
Mine is: Elizabeth: there will be moments you need to (do something to take responsibility for your actions, I cant remember the exact quote) Jack: I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.
+killersniper4 when jack served under beckett, beckett made him trade 1 cargo of slaves (he had previously said no to that) and his ship (called something weird) was his for a shilling. Initially jack agreed but then set the slaves free. Thus he was branded a pirate and then his ship was burned and sunk. That is how Norrington knows him, as a "pirate" who only set people free and didn't really plunder and stuff. also his ship had a burned hull. and jack tried to save it. so he mad ethe bargain with Jones, and for 13 years he'd be captain of the black pearl ( named after the dark hull) and you know the rest. The irony is that to repay his debt,Jones made jack enslave 100 people, which was the number of slaves he freed.
Basil Fawlty Thats interesting to know. But i think thats not what it refers to, as no one really knows the history of Jack at the time. Still cannot get my head around this line.
I love this one, "Wherever we want to go, we go. That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and hull and a deck and sails. That's what a ship needs. But what a ship is... what the Black Pearl really is... is freedom."
@@neoconesa7223 The Curse of the Black Pearl: Jack is explaining to Will he has become quite like a pirate: "You sprung a man from jail, sailed out of Tortuga with a buccaneer and a crew; and you are completely obsessed with treasure." Will: "That's not true! I am not obsessed with treasure." Jack: "Not all treasure is silver and gold mate." Jack refers to Will being completely obsessed with Elisabeth, implying she is a treasure.
Will Turner: Where’s Elizabeth? Me: She’s safe, just like I promised. She’s all set to marry Norrington, just like she promised. And you get to die for her, just like you promised. So we’re all men of our word really… except for, of course, Elizabeth, who is in fact, a woman.
And also a very important factor: most of the actors were given fairly free reigns in terms of what they wanted their character to be, especially Depp, who wanted Sparrow to be kind of a "rock'n'roll" pirate, which is why he based alot of him on Kieth Richards, who also plays his dad in the 3rd movie :P
That scene with the jar of dirt was completely improvised, and he also genuinely fell down during filming. So the reactions of the cast and crew were also genuine: their confusion, their displays of shock when he fell, all of it.
I love the fact that he tries to use the “you’ll remember this as the day you almost caught captain jack sparrow” several times after the first amazing time and every time it fails and something happens
Johnny Depp made this movie awesome and the other Actors and Actresses did an excellent job supporting his character in the story. The movies that came after the first were good but the magic was in the first movie. Watching his character actions, the way he spoke, his facial expressions and of course the costumes all added to it. Definitely one of my favorite characters in a movie.
My favorite quote is in the first movie, when Jack and Barbosa are fighting to dead but they are both inmortals, and Barbosa says 'So what now Jack Sparrow? Are we to be two immortals locked in an epic battle until Judgment Day and trumpets sound...' and Jack replies 'Or you can surrender'
"You can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest! It's the honest ones you have to watch out for. Because you never know when they're going to be.... dishonest."
“You are the worst pirate I’ve ever heard of.” “But you have heard of me.” Which, from what I hear means your doing something very right, or very wrong
My fave quotes: “I GOT A JAR OF DIRT” “You may kill me but you may never insult me” “Why should i trust any of you? 4 of you have tried to kill me in the past, one of you succeeded.”
Am I the only one that absolutely loves these movies? For whatever reason, I have NEVER gotten sick of watching them. It's incredible the impact some movies can have on your life.
"Not all treasure is silver and gold mate" or "Me, I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for because you can never predict when they will do something incredibly, stupid"
***** I'm not sure I'd go as far as all that (despite their problems, I'm still quite fond of 2 & 3), but COTBP is definitely the best in my eyes. However, I'm all for denying that OST ever happened.
One forgotten quote: Jack: *blows up a lighthouse and jumps out from the top* Jack 15 seconds later: "Did everybody see that? Because I will NOT be doing that again."
"Whoah, whoah, hang on a minute! I just...I just need to understand something. Right, so. You will fight against them, they will fight against you all on account of him wanting to kill him? Where is the sense? Exactly. I say, let them fight each other! While we lay back, watch, have a drink, place some wagers! Eh?!"
How is it that I come to RU-vid searching for something very specific, and I wind up going down the rabbit hole, watching 25 great Captain Jack Sparrow quotes?
Life lessons: "Not all treasure is silver and gold" "You may kill me but you may never insult me" "Take what you can, give nothing back" "Now, bring me that horizon" "There's no guarantee of coming back. But passing on, that's dead certain" And finally... "The world's still the same. There's just...less in it."
