The invention of the spray on skin, because a few years later it was needed for the Bali bombings that happened, ie terrorism in Bali in the early 00s, Dr Fiona Wood and her team, helped the victims of that incident, they had to fly them to Perth Australia to receive that special skin graft, she saved alot of people, for what she invented. Dr Wood is an ordinary lady,just doing her job. She became the Australian of the year, i.e., she received an award and more $$$,so then the average person could receive that treatment as well.

While the wrestling move the DDT is almost commonplace in most wrestling promotions and has been diluted somewhat it was usually a knockout to any opponent . The move came about while Jake "The Snake" Roberts had his opponent in a front facelock and accidentally dropped backwards taking his opponent with him knocking the opponent out for an easy pinfall . As you said the rest is history .

I most appreciate the invention of nitro glycerin, and its inventor shouldn't be so sad about it's potential. It's also used in medicine, and I had to take it daily for quite a while, in tablet form, when I had a heart condition called angina, which followed a serious heart attack. The nitro glycerin was taken whenever there was any pain in my chest. It worked quickly and effectively. 😉😊

I was told by a chemist who worked for a pharmaceutical company that Viagra does work as intended on the heart. After the well known side effect was discovered, the company who held the patent decided to market the drug for its side effect. They added that this was the first drug marketed for its side effect instead of its intended benefit. This story sounds good to me, but I am not sure that it is true. Maybe just an urban legend. Something to think about.

Wellbutrin was initially developed in the early '70's for the treatment of depression. An unintended side effect was that people on Wellbutrin found they experienced much milder withdrawal effects from tobacco. In the mid-'80's it was approved and marketed as a smoking cessation aid.

Slurpees are found at 7-11 stores, not Dairy Queen

That is true, however, the story is accurate to a point. Mike used the the name slurpee because that is the most well known. The story of the man in a Dairy Queen discovering this is true. He actually went on to invent the Icee brand. 7-11 made a deal with the Icee company to license the use of the machines in their stores. 7-11 was instructed to use different branding and hence the Slurpee was born.

As I can't typ e an a o or u with an Umlaut the characteristic two dots over an a o or u in German on this Lenovo laptop, it is there not for decorative purposes but has a function, it had evolved from an ae, an oe, and a ue. all significant of a different pronunciation an umlauted a or ae is like a German e but a bit flatter. an umlauted o or oe is like the French eu , like Messieur, mister, feu fire. an aeh sound with slight lip rounding. an umlauted u is like a German y (upsilon) directly from ancient Greek an ee sound but with slight lip rounding. Thus Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen as you have spelt it is Rontgen actually Roentgen (I can't on this laptop produce umlauted letters, but your o needs the two dots an Umlaut on top of it). So it was not he that termed it X-Ray, that was the later English word. His name and still in use in German today is after him, Roentgenstrahl. A picture is a Roentgengram. (The American English rhotic er ending like centER, is close to an umlauted o, or oe).
@RNMom424
@RNMom424 3 месяца назад
My cell phone's keyboard has foreign forms of letters. For am umlauted "o", I hold down the "o" key & get 9 choices. "ö" is one of them. "a" & "u" have this choice as well. Though possibly dialectic, I was taught that Bad Tölz is pronounced (to my American ears anyway) "Bahd Terlz". This was from my Bavarian landlord. "München" is similar to a kitten's mew, "Mewnchehn". The "r & w" are greatly softened from the English though, especially from US Southern English! I never got a fix on the "ä" though, so I end up pronouncing it (in my head, when reading, my only time seeing these letters) as a long a.
