Mike thanks for your videos Here are some examples during Gold Rush in California the native americans from California like Shasta, Chumash were massacred by white gold finders to the point were less remaining tribes like Ishi a Yahi man and only survivor who was rescued by university teachers who knew his language and documented everything saddly he died from tuberculosis in 1916 😢😮 Here in México in the state of Sonora during the Porfirian years hundreds of Yaqui indians were deported to Yucatán with the intention of get rid off them. Luckily some of them returned 😊 With the chinese people nothing has changed in the Beijing 2008 olympics the non city people were relocated and even was built a wall in their villages to make look "pretier" the place 😮

Not so fun fact. Sinead O'Connor was sent to the Magdalene Laundries at the age of 14 and was there for almost 2 years. Puts a whole different spin on her saying that the Catholic Church was the real enemy.

The Magdalene girls are one of those pieces of history that the Catholic Church would like to forget. The same with the Bastard Children of Ireland. All in the name of God.

@@petermontoya1796 The Laundries actually started out in the mid 1700's as a combination mother/baby home and training center for single pregnant girls. In addition to giving them a home while pregnant and adopting out the babies, they would train the girls in some kind of vocation (usually domestic service) and place them in positions. Most of these were only for Protestant women and run by the Church of Ireland. The Catholic Church started their own version and determined that they had to be self-supporting so they saw the women as free labor. They weren't recruiting enough from the sex workers so they encouraged families to send any "wayward daughter" so they would have enough workers.

At 14:45 you state that the first Social Security Number was issued in November 1963, however the correct date is shown on the screen as November 1936.

Additional info on Halifax: The explosion was one of if not the most powerful non-nuclear (unintentional) explosions in human history. The blast yield was around 3 kilotons. The bomb dropped on hiroshima was around 16 kilotons in yield.

The Halifax explosion, here in MA we get a Christmas tree every year from Halifax,after the disaster Boston was the first city to send a team of doctors,nurses and medical supplies to assist the city in caring for the injured. The tree is set up in downtown Boston decorated and on display every year.

My dad dropped out a few months before the explosion, but most of his siblings were in attendance. The museum across the street had on display the 5th grade attendance book, with my Aunt Minnie’s name right there! My uncle married Vernie Norton, whose twin brother Vester was killed in the explosion. Uncle no longer attended the school, he graduated the year before.

Confused geography: Arctic is in the Northern hemisphere; Antarctic is in the Souhern hemisphere. Nome is in the Northern hemisphere, so dog didn't save Antarctica.

Some years back, I heard that the Bristol Channel tsunami was probably caused by an underwater landslide in the Irish Sea, to the south of Ireland. It may have been caused by an earthquake. We have lots of undetectable earthquakes in Britain, despite being nowhere near a plate boundary (intraplate quakes are more common than most people would realise. There was a huge one in India not too long ago). I presume the same applies to the sea and Ireland. _Very occasionally_ we get significant ones. And given the nature of the sea bottom between Ireland and Wales (which is where this was likely to have occurred), it might not have taken much of a quake to set off the slide. The amount of land covered by the tsunami was massive, because it "landed" in the eastern side of S Wales and the northern part of the West Country. They're a lot flatter than a matter of miles to the west. It was a huge tragedy 😢

One historical fact from world war 2. Was the German were building a fake airbase. It was meant to throw the British off and use our real bombs on it. They made it from wood and from planes it was meant to resemble a real airbase. But it took them longer than they expected and the British caught wind of it and instead of ignoring it we made wooden bombs and wrote wood for wood. And we decided Ed to drop the wooden bombs on the wooden airbase 😅

One of the things that I remember was when I was very little like five or six years old me and my mother had to go to the Social Security office and exchange my Social Security card, which was metal. It was made out of stamped metal and we issued a paper Social Security card I don’t know why they did that because, Social Security cards one would last forever you would never have to get a new one. 2: their harder to counterfeit.

interesting little tidbit about my time in college related to new london explosion, one of my chem professors actually used the natural gas additive thing as a question. they asked "what does natural gas smell like?" which of course I said "nothing" which is of course correct because natural gas itself has no smell, which is why new london was so dangerous they couldn't SMELL the build-up nor could they see it

in a weird twist of fate my best mate was the speech writer for the Irish Taoiseach (prime Minister) and she wrote the early drafts of the apology speech from the Irish government and it was considered one of the most moving speeches ever in the Irish parliament. The PM was Enda Kenny. She spent a lot of time with the women who campaigned for this and you can tell that from listening to the speech.

How about doing a story about all the street urchins of Brition in the 1800s. They were snatched off the streets of England and Irland and sold into slavery here in America. My grandfather was one of those little boys that were taken and sold into slavery. He was bought by a farmer here in America. Grandpa didn't even know his last name, just his given first name. The farmer was supposed to release my grandfather when grandpa became the age of 18. But the farmer refused to release him. So grandpa beat-up the farmer and took the money the farmer had on him, he took the farmers horse and some food and ran away. Grandpa also took the farmers last name, because grandpa didn't have or know his last name only his given name, Walter Fred.

The blizzard of 1888 sou ds like it would be the one that Laura Ingles Wilder who lived in the plains she was about 14 or 15. In her book The Long Winter ( a book from the little house series) she says that later they heard about many people who died in the blizzard

The first social security cards were issued to railroad workers. Something I learned when investing how the numbers are determined. Another interesting tidbit. For many years, women didn't have their own social security numbers. They had to share it with their husband.

In midland Ontario Canada the Iroquois came in and slaughtered the people here including catholic priests white people settled here with other native indigenous peoples. I am from the Iroquois nation my father is Ojibwa and my mother is Cree. There is many parts of this area that tourists visit every year.

Re:Togo. Are you sure about Antartica? Wikipedia describes his service (among other things) in Alaska. There is no mention of Antarctica. I enjoy your videos, but an error of such magnitude makes me wonder about the validity of your other "25 facts" videos

Now this one is not well enough described I know you can't because it's a list show. But most likely if Jameson had witness this there was absolutely nothing . I had a teacher in school whose friends were anthropologists. They would run into tribes that practice some sort of cannibalism. When they arrived the tribe had successfully went to battle with another tribe and captured the main Warrior. This is practice because if you ate the warrior you gained all of his power. And since they were there they had to partake what was offered to them. If you said no they would be offended and you would be next. If you couldn't keep it down you were also insulting them and would be killed as well. And yes something you probably never wanted to know they said it was like salty pork. So again if Jameson had seen this and he would have tried to stop it or said anything there'd be no Jameson Whiskey today. Just a bunch of cannibals with a full stomach. The more you know

Yes, the photo gets the point across of the atrocities that was put on the people. They are much braver men than me. My will to live would have been exhausted at that point..

Blacks or anyone that had to drop of black ancestry we weren’t the only ones that were in slaved. My heritage is Irish, and there were several Irish people that were in slaved in the south during the Civil War so if you’re going to do a complete deal you need to mention them as well.
