Thanks for watching! Here’s the link for the free Audible trial: audible.com/smarthomesolver Also here are the notes for how to set up these automations: smarthomesolver.com/reviews/25-smart-home-automation-ideas-volume-2/ Of course these are all just ideas, and you could implement just a few so your house isn’t TOO automated (wait, is that possible…?)
Also, is the auto-on guard a Ring alarm-specific automation? I've only used Guard about 3 times when I went on vacation because I have to enable it manually. I also have no Smartthings setup. I'm an Alexa/Ghome/Wyze/IFTTT/Life 360 home
@Mark Smith glad to hear you like the standing desk automation! I can't find where I read it but I think Alexa guard might be compatible with some other alarm systems. It's compatible with ADT in the same way. You can create an Alexa routine to automatically set Alexa guard to away when you leave the house or from some other trigger. But there isn't a way to automatically disable Alexa guard with connecting it to an alarm system.
The amount of programming routines into Smarthings, Alexa, Home hub, etc etc to pull all this off must be epic. Then the spreadsheets to keep track of them all for reference and maintenance boggles the cranium. My ex hated automation and despised my little echo dot when it gave me the news flash each morning. Your wife is a keeper. Well done.
You really don't need to program anything lol. This is just a big state machine with smaller subsystems. He just made it relatively easy to follow along if you were to follow it. I also don't know if he coded anything. He could have, but most likely the things he bought already do most of what he wanted it to do. He just needed to include the new states in the existing routines. Anyway, my point is, it's not as much as you might have originally thought.
I have been building my smart home for the last 2 years, but recently started expanding to more intricate automations Thank you so much for testing all these products and giving in depth automation guidance. I probably watch 5-6 of your videos a week. 😁
All these ideas are so amazing, I like the exercise routine and I can't just help to be amazed about how creative one person can be, I have a suggestion and doubt, do you use a system to keep all the cameras together? cause I am thinking in using Ajax, if you are not familiar with it, its a system that allows to synchronize and keep all the cameras in one single place, now I wonder if it can synchronize with Alexa? cause in here she seems to do way much more, definitely, it would be good to know, thank you beforehand.
It's not lights that keep you working out, it's your motivation ;-) Nice gadgety idea but investing that time into the workout might have paid out a bit more, looking at him :-P *lol*
I'm willing to bet that it's more expensive to use the system from Amazon. In addition, it is completely unsafe and stupid, since using this system you become completely vulnerable to hackers only because there is an open channel in the security protocols for the police, who in turn can monitor you through your own cameras as much as they want. Attackers can also do this through the same channels. If you want security, then leave ajax and do not look for alternatives. In my opinion, this will be the most correct solution.
this can all be done within the home, even without an active internet connection,or even without a wifi router.you can make a local "router" with an esp32 to mitigate all the loops and dependencies :D
Omg these vids make me laugh more each time! Now show us the frustrating side when things don't work. Alexa giving you the "i'm having trouble connecting to the internet" speech, the robot getting stuck under dishwasher door and crying for help, and the cameras recognizing a bug as a person and alerting you at 2 in the morning lol.
Some of these ideas are awesome. At first, I liked the pressure sensor turning things on (eg if you have an alarm go off every day but one day is a public holiday, you might not want your morning routine to start when the alarm is stopped), though I wonder how it would work if you get up to get a glass of water or visit the bathroom. The NFC chips are a great idea, especially with people working from home, which obviously has become more frequent recently. One thing that blew me away was that 'if you haven't opened the backdoor after 8pm and go into the kitchen, it reminds you to take the rubbish out', that is crazy (and something I sorely need, haha). And the TV pausing if someone rings your doorbell is a very nice touch also. Thanks heaps for the video!
Thanks Dan! You could set parameters in something like webCoRE to only check for getting out of bed between a certain time. I'll be doing more videos explaining things like this soon. I'm glad to hear you liked the ideas!
I'd love to see how you've set up all the wiring and plugs for all the lights and light strips, especially in the kitchen. We don't have a whole lot of outlets where I could easily hide the cables, so that's one of my main challenges to get wife-approval for adding more smart lights to the house
Simply add smart light switches to control dumb lights. If you use a smart dimmer switch then you can have it turn on at 25% with voice control or automation
@@SmartHomeSolver Thanks for the quick reply, since my comment, I have searched all over Google and RU-vid with a how-to for Android/Google Assistant and nothing at all is coming up. Please help us, Reed!
Reed, you are the man, you've helped me figure out how to purchase some Wyze hardware, that I thought would not make sense and how I can have them connected. Thanks from Jamaica.
Me watching this video in bed at 0300 in the morning (got off work at 0130) and you reminded me I forgot to take out the trash. I'll be trying to figure out setting up that remind just adding geo fencing into it from my phones location when I get home from work the night before trash day. Thanks!
I just started using Alexa this week for 2 basic automations. Now I've gotta go back and watch your other videos and see what else I can use! Keep up the good work Reed!
Alright I was on board with everything until I saw that your wife swipes her phone to let you know she has started cooking 😂 I have no idea how she hasn't burned the place down.
Nice man, love the automation. I have a lot of these around my house already but you gave me some good ideas. Have you thought of just adding a smart garage door and locks? That way when you set the alarm for sleep or scene to ‘bedtime’ you can just automate auto lock everything. Beats just have the light notify you the garage door is open and then you still need to get out of bed to go close it. Honestly probably my favorite automation I have in the house. I’m usually the last to bed and first to rise so it’s nice to have the automation also turn off all the lights.
I had that happen to me. Smears and tracks in three rooms. The robot had it in every imaginable nook and cranny. If I didn't pay a thousand bucks for it, I was tempted to simply throw it out. Absolutely disgusting.
These automations are epic! Liked and Subscribed because these are some of the best I have seen. It also looks like we have the same washer/dryer so I feel a kin ship lol. So many of them would save me problems. My standing desk buttons require multiple steps for safety but I hope I can figure out how it works. I think you and/or some others convinced me in the past that I need to get an Alexa as Google Home is just not keeping up. This seems to verify it, plus I like the Computer wake word.
Tips for smart automation: have a smartthings multipurpose sensor mounted in a shelf or drawer where the candy is hidden, and get a notification or make alexa say something to alert you. You can also maybe have a camera in there to find out who took candy.
(long comment, apologies in advance) On another note, I recently bought an alarm clock (won't mention names or provide links in case that's a RU-vid no-no), that integrates with my Google assistant. I toggle the 'morning routine' on so when I stop the alarm, it tells me the weather and time, plays music on my office/computer room speaker (yet to install automatic blind openers, but will do that), boils my smart kettle, turns on my bathroom lights and sends a request to IFTTT which goes to my raspberry pi and plays music on it. The pi is hooked up behind a DIY smart mirror (in the bathroom) I made which shows me the weather, news, time, traffic/transit times to my office if I need to go in and my daily and weekly calendar. The mirror also has an led strip behind it which changes colour depending on the weather in case I miss the speaker from the alarm or I leave say 2 hours after my alarm and it's now raining. It also uses a camera for motion and face detection for different dashboards/display (eg not everyone wants the same info when the walk in or even want the screen displaying anything). This allows me to listen to music in the shower/getting ready, kettle boiled with a 'keep warm' setting to ensure it's still hot for coffee/tea when I'm finished in the bathroom and at a glance, I can see how long I have to get ready for work (if not working from home) and also any meetings I have for the day (in case I need to wear a collared shirt, be available at a specific time, etc). I'm sure you could extend this functionality ten fold, just thought I'd mention it in case you decide to add these or even if it gives you further ideas for more content
I love your home, it’s so futuristic. Because of your channel I bought an echo show 2nd gen and hue light 💡 and an echo dot. Thank you very much for posting these videos.
I was expecting something like, "tell google to turn off you lights"....needless to say I am glad I clicked on this. Great video with some very useful tips!
thats very cool, I have my blinds open when my alarm turns on to help me get out of bed. Usually I scream at Siri to close the blinds and I go back to sleep
What I'm always wondering is - how do those automation work when you want to do something else at the moment. Let's say you have automation controlling blinds. But for whatever reason you manually changed the blinds level and you don't want it to be changed for example when you turn on TV and the automation would normally close them. My point is - there are always scenarios possible that you didn't think about in your automation, how to deal with that?
I’m “new” to home automation. Presently I only have some basement lights and some google minis on some routines. I’d like to know more details on hardware needed and how to program the automations you have. Great ideas!
Here is an idea. Newer toilette have separate #1 and #2 flushes so automate a way to detect the #2 flush and light up the bathroom door red to warn family members not to enter. Light goes off after 10 minutes when the smell clears. Also have the vent run on timer to ensure the vent continue after you get out.
Hello from Singapore!! How I wish you are here to work on my smart home project! This are all so cool and smart home functions and systems that I will actually want to have!! Very useful and not just a showy kind of smart home!!
you're a ninja. loved seeing so many personalized uses for lighting and notifications. loved the pre-recorded message with the dog on the furniture, loved the tv auto pausing when the doorbell was pressed. super loved the window sensor/opening pausing the heat/cool and auto turning on the fan.
Seems you still need to find a better balance between working on your automations and your fitness ;o) But the fact that you need led strips to keep you motivated tells you're kinda the new years resolution workout type. So keep going both with your workout and smart home! Thumbs up from me!
I also have IFTTT connected: Withings sleep mat, Hue bulbs and a chain drive for shutters from Tuya. When I get up in the morning after 6.00, the lights next to my bed turn on and the window blind pulls up :) It is also possible to combine heating control in the home etc. with the Withings Sleep Mat via IFTTT.
That motion sensing nighttime accent lighting is genius! If it’s not already installed, I want to add a light sensor so that they won’t activate when it’s daytime or the other lights are already on
I'm working on my house. So far I have some smart lights, hubs, amazon echo devices, and a nest learning thermostat. Echo wakes me up in the morning, gives me the weather and my schedule, the bedroom lights turn on automatically. When I'm in the kitchen making my coffee, a echo 15 shows me news, weather, post it notes, my thermostat adjusts itself. Plan to keep building my setup
