You're a lifesaver Mike. I had to revisit this video because I haven't had vertical collapse until this evening on this chassis. Pin 1 on my vertical ic was reading 250 ohms. I borrowed an ic from another unit. The resistance was reading 4.3 megaohms on my DMM for some reason. I have the same DMM as you. Not sure what's up with that but it's working great now with the borrowed IC. Thanks. You're an excellent teacher

Wokring on a 7401 and this video has helped me a lot. I have Vertical Collapse and did a cap kit and replaced the TDA1771 but still have collapse. I have 25v to the test point. I pulled the VIC and checked the pins. The new IC doesn't register pin 5 to ground but I do get a reading if put the meter in diode mode. I have 2 new ICs and they both exhibit this behavior. In continuity mode pin 5 shows open. On my old IC pin 5 shows closed. What am I missing here? Did they had a diode in the new chips?

Where did you get your ICs from? The counterfeit ones have the ground on the wrong pin.

@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepairDon't remember.. local electronic parts here in Houston I think. I just checked and mine has the ground on 6 instead of 5. Can these two pins be reversed and it work? Or should I try to find a different one.

Nope. Put one of these in there and you’ll be good. This is the only place I recommend… www.arcadepartsandrepair.com/store/monitors/monitor-parts/tda1771/

I made a quick video of testing the ICs for bad build and posted it to my channel. I also contacted the supply house that I got them from (not local) and told them how to test the rest of theirs. Thanks so much for your help!

On the stage where you check the ic pins I found there was an issue with mine HOWEVER after removing the ic and checking the empty pins on the board I found that where pins 1 and 9 would go I was getting continuity to ground. So something else going on here along with the ic going out. Any ideas on what could be causing pins 1 and 9 ON THE BOARD without the ic to be grounded? Had recently been cap kitted

Hey Eric. You’re going to need to go component by component on those traces to see if you can find which one (or more) are causing the issue. There’s no real way I would know without having it in front of me. Looking at the schematic will help too.
