I thought I would share 27 non-toxic houseplants for pets! Now, don't leave me hate because some of these CAN make your animal pals sick. These are just varieties that have been found to NOT cause serious health conditions or even death. Please do your own research & take into account how interested your pet is in your indoor plants! Just a note, spider plants are non toxic BUT they are a mild hallucinogenic for cats. So once they get a bite, they usually go back for more until the whole plant is gone/chewed to bits. I know from personal experience. Now I have a hanging one

One of my cats (I have 3) loves to chomp on my prayer plant. I moved it and put some pet grass there for her instead. Sad situation because my prayer plant loved that spot. Going to make a macramé hanger for that pot to get it out of reach. But I don't want to hang every plant I have. So, long story short, PLEASE make a video with tips for us!

Thank you Harli for this informative video, I had a cat that would chomp on any plant that was within her reach, she passed away a couple of years ago, and I got another cat to go with my male cat and neither one of them could care less I have plants, which is great for me. Great intro, thank you for telling your (reliable) source and mentioning the hotline! Safety first! After I got my curly spider plant, and decided to read up on care requirements, I read somewhere that spider plants are not only safe, but are also used (or were used earlier) for cooking by the indigenous communities where they grow naturally (some parts of africa). I am not sure how correct this information is, but I just found it so cool, I was tempted to chow on my spider plant myself :D

Thankfully my cat only smells plants. I have a few plants that are toxic to pets, but they are higher up. She did eat grass when I would allow her to go outside, but that's the only plant she ever ate. She's more concerned about mice in the basement. 😂

I would really appreciate a video about keeping pets safe/out of toxic plants! I have two very curious cats and I’m afraid to get a Monstera because I’m scared they’d try to eat it, I know it’s toxic to pets. I’ve noticed they do try to eat certain plants (namely spider plants and parlor palm) but I’ve been surprised to find they leave others alone entirely, even if they are “nontoxic”.

Spider plants have the same properties as cat nip, so that's why your cats want it :) (mine eat mine as well).

Kermit Cats naturally eat grass and other grass-like vegetation. This explains why they like your spider plant and parlor palm - both have a strap-ish leaf structure. A cat’s diet is not 100% meat, so they really do need some plant material anyway. That said, a cat may mistake the serrated-looking leaves of a monstera, as another grass. I would suggest playing it safe, and keep it in a place away from where your cats visit. The monstera is not extremely toxic anyway, but could cause some vomiting, diarrhea, and other mild issues.

Shari Nakagawa Yes, I’ve heard about this! They definitely do go for the spider plants more than anything else, it’s hard to keep them off of the baby ones that I’m trying to grow lol. Oddly, I’ve found they don’t bother the ones that are growing in water as much as the ones in soil? Not sure why that might be, I expected the opposite.

Funny, I have a false aralia and my curious doggy got poked in the eye by one of its many pointy leaves (at least that’s what the vet thought) which resulted in a swollen eyelid and a few weeks of meds! Lucky she didn’t eat it, but I hadn’t thought of that possibility. 🐶

My dog and cat don’t go after my plants so I can get non pet friendly plants. The only time my dog goes after my plants is when I fertilize it with organic fertilizers. And I’m a vet tech so I know what to do if they where to eat toxic plants
