Favourite Medvedev moment, when he won the ATP Cup for Team Russia 🇷🇺 I support Novak Djokovic and Team Serbia 🇷🇸 but I was very happy for the Russian brothers they deserved it the most because of their full dominance in singles, much love from Macedonia 🇲🇰
It's literally a piece of ancient wisdom playing out in real time. "Don't celebrate the point until the ball has bounced twice" - Lao Tzu or Socrates or something I'm sure.
1:06 the way they both end up dropping their rackets in disbelief, and medvedev only belatedly raising his hands in celebration after they both had enough time to process what happened...priceless :)
С юбилеем, Даниил! Отличный уровень тенниса, гордость нашей страны. Желаю, помимо умения гнать вперед, научиться также грамотному планированию сезона для балансировки сил и подтянуть физуху. А в остальном - красавчик!)
What I am learning from these highlights is that sometimes on defense you can hit a better shot if you let the ball drop and give yourself time to get in position. Good stuff
He is unbelievably versatile.... He can play basically any style of tennis: Aggressive baseliner Serve & volley Pusher Counterpuncher All-court player And he does it all equally well. 🤔😒
yup after Goatkovic retires completely, Djoker probably will take it easy after reaching 400 weeks on top and let younger guys enjoy at the top while he focuses on pushing the grand slams totals.
Danill is such a great player the rally with albot was incredible, been on his side since I first see him play as a lower rank player, hope he can get more slams and #1 spot. Even his compatriot kasatkina has a great game.
Yeah, I think that djoko vs. Medvedev will happen. Or djoko vs. Thiem can also be an option. But it will be really interesting to see Medvedev vs. Thiem in the finals. 🤔
I only hope his knees and joints won't suffer in the way it happened to Nadal... he was/is chasing every ball and his meniscuses are worn out tremendously.
@Kolikatar Kangla perhaps, but knees/joitns are always the most sensitive points for a tennis player, especially when you tend to run and change directions a lot...
1:33 Fucking lack of sportsmanship. Not only this isn't fun, also underestimating opponent. This is why these day's youngsters cannot win Rafa, Djoker. Of course they are good. but what really matters is 'youngsters just don't try to win.' they just don't care whether they lose to Big 3.
No disrespect to Medvedev's skills (anticipation, footwork, preparation, defense) quite honestly I think he wins mostly on endurance. So many times his opponents will win the first set then as the match goes on they are so worn out that Rallies where they have a clear advantage are lost because of fatigue. Kudos to Medvedev for being in better shape than anyone else in the ATP but is this what we want to see in tennis? Endurance has always been a big part of tennis (Borg, Lendl, even Djokovic) but not this big. The ATP is going to allow men's tennis to be turned into a sport where skeletal men out endure each other by slow, slow, slow, and long, long, points of attrition. Like watching a marathon...Boring!😳
You don’t become number 4 in the world with just with endurance. Of course endurance is one of his strength. But he is also an incredible tactician. He is a master at building points and knows what to play each shot at a specific point plus he is a master at making his opponent uncomfortable. Sure his game doesn’t look spectacular nor pretty in the outside, but it’s an absolute gem on the inside
@@nicolaswhitehouse3894 thanks for being respectful of my opinion. I do agree he is a master tactician, but again we are already seeing others (Sinner, De Minaur, and possibly Rublev) who all undoubtedly have skills win a ton of points on endurance alone. I just dont want this game to turn into a total endurance sport. That would be sad and boring.
@@cathexis1325i find that de minaur is a bit boring because unlike medvedev he just knows how to run. Rublev relies to much on power and not enough angles. And sinner is the same as rublev. But out of all of them medvedev is the best player at tactics. Unfortunately yeah it’s a bit boring but I think thiem/Medvedev could be a good rivalry. Yeah no worries I also have my fair share of boring players, but boring players are all below top 10, since they lack a particular skill. I would like to see more players that is 100% pure offense just like Federer, sadly it is pretty rare today
What makes difference is whether you are bold enough or not to hit a winner in a critical situation and when to do this. More than half of these points end with a medvedev winner. As for endurance, other than players that rely on their big serve, most of the top100 are very close. Of course beating a player that is tall, quick and smart is a great challenge. being boring is not what i see. His technique is not pretty but he is fun to watch. Unpredictable. Against djoker he stays way back and waits djoker attack then he serve and volleys against nadal and thiem to win these matches. He makes 2nd serve aces, 2nd serve serve and volleys, these need not only endurance, these need courage, composure, awareness and smartness.
