Yes I'm going to stretch my old Ram as much as I can I also have a diesel Excursion with 420,000 on it. My wife has a brand new Durango RT so we drive that when it's somewhere important otherwise I just drive stinky junk
If I were to buy another Ram truck, I would buy the nicest Pre2021 without e-tourque. I had a friend with a 2019 5th Gen and it was very good too. I don't think you can go wrong but all new 5th gens come with e-tourque only v-8's the classic does not come with e-tourque and the classic is known for being a solid truck. Good luck.
Yeah for a regular cab 2 wheel drive Tradesman and Express both starting at 30k.....but splitting hairs for 39,895 for a Crew Tradesman....41k for Crew Express
but who can afford 40k at 10-12% interest in current recession? Just rebuilding my 2010TRX with 510xxx atm. just inspected transmission this summer and was fine.
Great Review, I'm up here in Canada, retired HVAC guy, didn't work full time out of my truck but did put it to work. Mine is also a 2010 Laramie 5,7 2wd 350,000 kms or 218,000 miles . Like you this has been by far the most comfortable ,reliable vehicle I've ever owned, no motor issues as of yet, other than manifold swaps. AND AN alternator ,did perform a full tranny, rear end service. Swapped out my shocks for a set of bilstiens and like magic it's a new truck with a great drive. Cooling system went out due to a slow leak on a long run and I pretty much replaced everything under the hood regarding cooling . AC Is untouched and woks Great. This truck eats tie rod ends and front wheel bearings, my last set 6th is SKF and Moog Funny you mentioned mud in the wheel covers, I'm gonna check into that. Inside the truck, front wear like yours, no seat heat on drivers side, and window switch on pass side. Replaced my mirrors complete, with a used set of ram mirror take offs. Everything else is working. Stock headlights suck but I swapped premium LED bulbs on the whole front end. Awesome but finicky. Well worth the effort. Body and paint in excellent shape, rust now peaking thru at the rockers. I'm probably 8-10k in repairs over the 8 years I've owned it. It's going to be tough to move on, but I'm retired now and I've got my eye on the hunt for a 2018 longhorn southfork. Great Trucks Great honest review. Cheers.
Well thank you for the kind words sir. It sounds like we've had a similar life with a similar truck I'm actually sitting in my 2010 right now it just hit 262,000 and it's running great. Although I've never had that many problems with tie rod ends or wheel bearings I've only replaced them I think once. I installed Air lift airbags in the back and I think I have ranchos in the front or maybe rancho shocks all the way around I can't remember. I'm in Florida I have my AC on because it's already 80° today. Cheers to you as well my friend!
That's good to know I live in Alberta one my way home from work in Edmonton a deer ran in front of my 08 toyota highlander destroyed the front end it was a shame high mileage vehicle but extremely reliable I'm a toyota guy thru and thru....I originally wanted to buy a 4 runner but they are expensive...I found a 2008 ram 1500 with only 125,000 km I had it inspected at a dodge dealership.... good to know these are reliable.
@TimeforchangeTrudeaumustgoEndb yeah, the rams from 2002 until at least 2016 or 17 for sure are pretty solid vehicles and can go for a long time. I know some that are over 500,000 mi. Thanks for watching my video.
I love those 00-06 Yukon Tahoe suburbans... I had a 2005 sierra z71 that was a great truck. Reg cab short bed. I don't like the newer GM stuff all that much. Thanks for watching!
I’m happy to see another happy dodge ram owner 👍. I have a 2010 Ram 1500 bighorn with 210k and counting. I only had to replace 1 alternator, fuel pump and wheel hubs, and normal wear and tear items. I’m on the original starter and transmission.
I ended up selling this truck about 3 weeks ago to invest some money in my diesel Excursion. But if I find another truck somewhere to this one in the future I will probably buy it. If I were to buy a brand new truck it would be a ram, hands down. Although I'm really not in the mood to pay 80 grand for a truck! I also picked up a pretty nice 1985 Toyota pickup that I'm going to start using around town here in Florida. Thank you very much for watching my video!
Great video, thanks for sharing. I have a 2010 5.7L 4x4 Big Horn. Very low miles, 70k and the truck has been great. the only problems I've been are due to corrosion. I live 900ft from the beach in central Florida and so far I've replaced the bumpers, fenders, rocker panels and had to have the tailgate repaired. The corrosion has caused several problems with the cooling system (pinhole leaks on the heater pipe resulting in changing the water pump) and the idler pulleys only last about 20k because of the salt air. What amazes me is I haven't had any electric problems. I cleaned up and coated the grounding lug on the fender. Cab is still water tight. No leaks etc. I run 5/20 pure synthetic change every 5k or once a year. Love the ride on this truck.
I live in Bradenton Florida just south of Tampa but I didn't live near the beach and I never had any corrosion problems at all with that truck. I did sell it about a year ago but I miss it dearly and it was for the best vehicle I've ever owned. the guy that bought it still drives it. he lives in Tampa. thank you for watching my video and thank you for the kind words and yes don't ever get rid of your truck they don't make them that good anymore.
@@greasebellygarage that's for sure. I just took the truck up to New Jersey and back via I95, 2,500 miles. Averaged 18-19 mpg. Truck handles nice in traffic and I think it rides better than a lot of cars I've been in . I bought the Chrysler factory lifetime warranty when I bought it ($3,500) so I plan on keeping it another 15 years at least.
I have 2 dodges 04 4x4 ram hemi I just got back in August for retirement next year. I also have a 06 2w std cab 3.7 6sp manual. Got it at 8900 miles. About 17 years ago Last week I just turned 274000. I just replaced fuel pump. Everything else is original including the clutch.still running good. I drive 400 miles each week just to and from work. Yes I have replaced brakes. Lights. But mechanically it has started for me every time and got me from a to b and back With no issues. I'm sticking to dodges I got the 04 because I wanted a older truck for less bells and whistles less shit that can go wrong. It only had 109500. I'm sticking to the older dodges👍
Yeah the older Dodges are pretty good my brother-in-law has a 2003 with a 4.7 v8 and it has about 290k on its original engine and transmission. My 2010 in the video just turned over 270. I just got back about 10 days ago from a 3000 mile trip. It's still running good but I have a bad tire pressure sensor now. I'm a little afraid of all these newer trucks! Thank you for watching my video I really appreciate it.
My last 4 rigs have been ram 1500's. 2005...rusted out, 2010 had 240 tho on it and then wrecked it, 2014 Longhorn....LOVED it except for the air suspension (does not like Vermont winters, spent over 5 grand trying to fix it), then got a brand new 2022 Laramie Sport (white, really nice looking truck). I will say new are nice but some things feel like too much cost cutting (door cards do not feel as solid, moved the Sub to behind rear seat which makes it more rattly, no light under the hood) I really loved the interior on my long horn (dark brown and light brown colors).
@@greasebellygarage I’m a new Ram fan myself since 2019. Bought a new Longhorn. Just love it and so far so good. In my cold winter climate she always starts here in 🇨🇦. Mind ya I only have 60 thou Kilometers. (36000 miles) 👍
I'm going to look at one today. It has 333k km's on it (about 200k miles). Was driven by an old guy (who apparently couldn't drive very well) with dings all over it. The guy I'm buying it from, his son... is selling it for 3700 Canadian (2700 US). Check engine light so I'm bringing a scanner and the fuel gauge doesn't work. How has your truck been?
@@roxas-jj8mf Nice, Goodluck! Inspect the rockers (inner and outer, frame and cab corners. I got lucky. Thr previous owner had his undercoating since it was new. I live in Canada...Salt is our enemy.
Had to rebuild the engine at 235k miles? Not bad at all. Sounds like you lucked on a Ram. Like if I get a Ram and it needs a new engine after 300k Km, I'll be happy honestly.
Had a 2007 Ram 1500 4x4 for work & a company truck, I really liked the feel and ride so I bought an 07 for my personal use that was used. No major issues and have driven it for 8 years, now I pulled the trigger on a 2010 Ram 1500 4x4 with 110k on it and I'm hoping to have the same luck as the last 2 Rams I've had. Nice work on the video.
Gave 20k for 2019 used rental crew 5.7 6'4" bed. with 21k miles 2 years ago in the middle of covid. Now at 32k mi. its still worth more than i gave for it. Only thing i regret is buying dealership 2k warrenty that goes out next year. Knock wood no problem in 11k miles and 2 years. Expected battery to at least go out on 5 year old truck but not yet. I did add 800. set of tires as first set were junk. 4 oil changes with pensoil synthetic 5-20. Only complaint is its hard to park in average parking spots.
2008 Dodge Ram 1500, just crossed 240k miles. It has all original 4.7 FFV, drivetrain and all! Now I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Hemi with a 4” lift, and plan to replace the engine much later! Love both my Rams!
To anyone doing their research and wanting to hear from another owner, here we go: Bought my 2010 Dodge Ram (5.7 Hemi) with 69k miles in 2017. 104k miles valve cover leaked (had it replaced) 198k miles had another valve cover gasket replaced. My truck has new suspension on it and I've kept up on all the scheduled maintenance. It tows and hauls what I need. Currently at 201k miles and I know I could drive this truck from Ohio to Arizona with no issues. It's been a wonderful truck and I would DEFINITELY buy another Hemi Ram again! Keep up on the maintenance especially the tranny and flush that radiator, you'll get many years of a workhorse/play outta these. This truck has been to many states for hiking trips as well, and has been through plenty of rough backcountry roads. Never failed me.
Well thank you for the input and it looks like this truck isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The car market has softened and I'm not going to give it away. I've always heard that 2009 through 2012 were the best years of these trucks
I've done that to every newer vehicle I've ever owned and I've never replaced a transmission, unless it was already bad when I bought an older car of course.
looking at one of these with 268K, seems like it could still be a good truck. it's good to see that they run this high. I would for sure get more info on the one I am looking at
@@greasebellygarage glad to hear it. I’m in an 06 Mustang right now. I’m selling it and my F150 to downsize and get some cash for some life expenses and am trying to find a good option to trade my car on since I’m having a hard time selling. I grew up in a 4th gen so it’s a very tempting choice
@@whuttontarnation2484 get it checked out by a pro. Sometimes they have some ghosts ya know. I think 4th gens are some of the best overall pickups ever made. Especially 09-12 model years. Good luck!
I have 216k on my 2013,it's a 4x4 express ,I haven't many problems, changed water pump and heater core while I replaced core I went ahead and replaced EVAP core.the truck still runs drive great,It has mostly highway miles.I was thinking about buying new truck and keeping it.But afyer looking around at market I decided to just fix it up myself I have the complete new suspension in garage and im gonna sand frame and paint it myself soon as weather warms, than summer ,new cam lifters hv oilpump coils I've changed all fluids and yes I do my own work and I'm keeping my mds system.I love this truck and it's been good to me ,so why spend 60k on new one when I can spend 7-10k just fixing it up,I've got a toy in garage and this truck.
That's a very smart move because the quality on the newer trucks is not quite as good. I ended up selling this truck but I sure miss it. I had it for 10 years and it was the best vehicle I've ever owned. Good luck to you my friend and good job doing your own work.
I have 2012 mint condition garage kept 78,000 miles and replaced the tension pulley at 60k I have an exhaust manifold leak, and now IA check engine light with 2 codes going off for a short runner valve in the intake system
After I made this video I ended up getting the code that you got I had to replace the intake manifold because the rod broke on the shortrunner valve. I suppose that's possible on your truck but at that level of mileage I wouldn't think so there may also be a sensor or it may be another problem throwing that code. I just don't remember exactly what I went through in the exact order. The intake manifold was rather expensive for my truck because I bought it when everything was on back order during covid.
@greasebellygarage I did purchase a map sensor, hoping that is what's throwing the code if that does solve it I will more than likely replace the intake I seen them online for 350$ which is not that much more for the short runner valve circuit by itself
@@donttreadonme214 it seemed seems like I had to pay $500 for my intake and it took a week for me to get one. But like I said this was during the major back order of everything after covid. But it solved the problem the thing ran great after that. Good luck to you my friend.
Yes the shop that did the engine cooperated with another shop down the street they used a tuner for the MDS shut off they also changed the cooling fan kick on temperature to 195 I believe but I don't remember why they did that.
@@greasebellygarage how was your engine rebuild and with that much mileage did the shop try to talk you into buying a new long block instead of rebuilding your engine? I’m at 210k on my 2010 and many shops says my engines miles are to high to rebuild and recommend a new long block.
Well you need to trust your engine shop because if I had to do it over again I would have just bought a whole new engine the only reason I didn't is because I had to get this done in the middle of covid and there was nothing available. I got about $35,000 MI out of the rebuild until it started burning excessive amounts of oil. I just recently sold the truck about 3 weeks ago. Definitely take the advice of the engine shop.
