By far the only guy i watched that helped get away from a big guy's side control. If you are a skinny blue belt like me who still struggles, can't stay awake during Danaher's DVDs or make anything work, this guy is the real deal. This with the Phantom & Ghost escape got me applauses at my gym. Coach Brian, thank you for the details that released me from years of absolute torture you are the man

One of the first videos I watched that led me to subscribe and contribute. I ended up learning more about side control retention lol. I love the detail, the format where you show the end first, and it just feels like being at the gym when I can't always. Coach Brian reminds me of a lot of my favorite teachers. the love of the art really shines through, thanks

As a big guy purple belt with a heavy pressure game I can confirm that this technique is effective. It becomes a battle over the bottom grappler's elbow and knee placement, but like Coach Brian said - you just don't let them pluck that elbow. Once that knee comes under the big guy will be forced to transition at a minimum to avoid getting pushed too far down your hips to maintain control. Most likely they will end up in your guard.

I am complete beginner but your vids are best. Explaining concept like frame actually helps me already in rolling , even though I am still cannot submit or control anyone yet, but already making myself so much harder to submit or control easily. Could even hold my own without being submitted by blue belt entire round

That was a really good detail at ~10:00 minutes or so into the video. I have that problem a lot too where people hang onto my hips while I try to bridge/shrimp, but I have never realized up to this point that there is a backdoor where I can insert my knee underneath him.

tested this one just the other day during GI sparring. it works great. my partner was having 25kg more than myself and i was able with the forearm frame and the elbow(important elbow to the ground) to insert my knee and pushing him was able to sweep the big guy. i noticed however that if i don't pin my elbow to the ground the sweep is impossible due to his knee occupying that space. also as under my knee was located under him the better i believe this is because of his center of gravity, i was more under him(load him). thanks again coach Brian! awesome techniques! KAIZEN! the "magic" starts at 9:29 :)

@fastrivers812
@fastrivers812 5 лет назад
@@thelister4910 Thanks for asking. I haven't gotten to try it. The last time I grappled w/ him it was mostly standup and he couldn't take me down but likewise, I didn't take much risk in trying to take him down because he would've just laid down on me. So, for 4 mins we basically pushed each other around and I was wiped. LOL.

so when you're escaping the modified kesa gatame, where exactly are you aiming to place your knee? It looks like rather than bringing it in front of their hip like a traditional side control escape, you're placing it somewhat under their thigh? I'm guessing this is meant to prevent them from correcting their base? And then you do kind of a knee shovel/john wayne sweep type movement

In that case go to the ghost escape or the phantom escape. Basically escape out whichever side he's not more fully controlling. These three together seem like they'd be unstoppable!

Yes they are running around when you pop out. It’s very common. Try to pay close attention to it and move back if you need to. Don’t over-ghost so to speak. I have a video that explains a little about this problem.
