25FT Bertram project - blob 25 - BOAT REBUILD - getting boat off the floor onto trailer

Hi everyone, it’s mygal here
Slow going on this one sorry. I think I’ve thought that on all of the blobs actually. It is slow going! In this one I get a new (old) 3.5t trailer. Anything over 3.5t needs to be inspected yearly so that’s why I only went with a 3.5tonner. I searched the internet for a weight and I saw a standard sedan with twin 6cylinder motors weighs 2.6tonne. I’ve only got a single (that weighs probably slightly less? 400kgsish??) (there are other threads saying 4t?) I know it’s pushing it but I’m broke as a joke and the boat ramp is only 30seconds down the road. It’ll be enough to get it into the water for now. Bigger one later if needed.
Back to the boat I have removed all of the drawers in floor area ready for more sanding then paint. I also glass the trim tab extensions on the transom.

Wow, ambitious job! I am looking fwd to watching the entire series. At this point I am expecting to see a pod installed in the next few episodes and perhaps removing the skids and replacing with flexible rollers. Thanks for the video, exciting!

Thanks very much! It turned out a lot more work then I thought when I first got it lol hopefully get some time to work on it in the next couple of weeks. I’ll post more asap

You definitely know your way with fiberglass! Your methods remind me of learning about fiberglass and advanced composite repairs in aircraft maintenance school!

We always heavily blocked the stern to stabilize the craft back on the chines then it is a matter of jacking with safety blocks always in place. A piece of channel iron with a chunk of pipe welded to it that captures the jack head works fine (pad the channel). Then jack the bow up with the jack just forward of the tipping point midship, slide the trailer back until the axle is at the jack, block and lower, rinse and repeat. If you have an gantry of course it is easy. Block the stern and pick from the bow with a strap. The trick is to have your blocking so the boat can never fall more than a fraction of an inch.

Love the idea of the actuators for the roof! I hope you end up doing it, we have been completely happy with ours and we are in year 2 of using them! Love the videos, so much time and effort on your part, to be able to include us on this build, but if you ask me........well worth it!!!!

Crazy that the Yacht stayed afloat. I bet it had some near misses amongst the mooring field, dragging its anchor during a gale. Whats life without a few mistakes and lessons like that. Great yarn

I am pretty sure my 28 has the same woop in the bottom back near the transom. I have only just started the same task with it. I am starting to realize how big a job I have committed to. All the best with yours Michael

the bottom of the Tramnsom of the boat would be the shrinkage from when they made it

Hi Michael, I seem to remember reading that the first generation Formula 233's had a slight hook cast into the hull mold at the transom to act as trim tabs. Since Don Aronow likely took design ideas from Dick Bertram...the slight hook you pointed out is likely intended. I bet you can research this aspect. What year is your 25' Bertram?
