Poor Zack, I really wish he was not involved in enabling Arne to do Money drop. I do not know how you guys all ended up there but you must have hyped each other up to an extent where the this seemed like a good idea. Zack mentions in this video that there is a potential that Arne gets knocked out. In kayaking knocked out means drowning. There are three safety people in the video (Kayak and ²throwbags on land, left side) If Arne is unconscious this is not enough safety to get a lifeless body out of the water. Do yourself and Arne a favour and reupload the video without that part this might become curriculum in every river safety course. Arne is more than welcome to take a beginner course and learn how to run hard lines in easy whitewater. ❤️
Hey and thank you for your message! Well written and factual. To answer you question: There was by no means any hype. Non of us wanted him to do it, but it’s been a dream of his for very long. It’s hard to understand from the outside perspective but people just have to meet arne to understand. He’s a man who can’t sit still for long, and if he sees something he finds cool, he wants to do it. Zack was in a position where he could either watch his friend do it without any tips, tricks and guidance at all. Or he could help him do it in the safest matter possible considering the circumstances. Arne has his own Kayak and he would’ve done it either way. It’s a vlog displaying a lot of different activities in 15min and we therefore didn’t show even 10% of the “mini course” Zack gave Arne. It was an ending to the vlog. But we got a lot of footage, and we’re planning to make an “UNCUT” episode of the stunt. A format we use where we don’t really try to make it entertaining . Just give a realistic insight in the actual situation. Let clips play out without hard cuts and so on… it would’ve been a 10min video of only the stunt and de raw conversations around it. But in the vlog we rather focused on showing the viewers that this was something we personally didn’t like, and found scary ourself. If you rewatch it, you will def see that we included clips displaying exactly that. In the end, it’s a free world and Arne is a 33 year old man who makes his own decisions. He knew the consequences and possible outcome. Looking at it from a bigger perspective, it’s a river, free to use. And if people want to ride down the stream with small boats, no one is in position to stop them from doing it. It’s a personal decision. Us who do cliff diving do not like when inexperienced people hit the high cliffs without much experience. But we’re not in position to tell them that they’re not allowed. If a friend of mine told me he planned on jumping a 30m cliff without much experience, and that he would do it no matter my opinion. I would much rather give him some tips to minimize the risk of failure, than let him do it blind without guidance. And let’s say something went wrong. He got injured or even died. Me as a friend would’ve hated being in a position where I could’ve given tips to possibly avoid this horrific outcome, but chose not to… It’s a very tricky situation and I respect the Kayaking community a whole lot more after getting a proper introduction through Zack. The amount of docus, RU-vid edits and raw videos he’s shown me the last two weeks is truly inspiring. The passion he has for the sport and the community and his goals on taking the sport to the next level is nothing but motivating. And seeing how serious he takes the risk evaluation. Even backing out of a waterfall after we spent 6h at the spot, rigging with multiple photographers and videographers truly shows that his mind is in the right place. This whole “Kayak stunt” was a whole lot more on Arne than what it may seem like. We have a clip of us saying Arne does this for himself, not for the vlog, not bc of Zack. We didn’t push him to do anything… but we took it out. Me (Kim) who edited the vlog, though we already had enough clips showing our concern for the stunt. So that’s only on me and I have to apologize. I also have to apologize for a poorly written reply. Probably a lot of typos and bad structure, but I just wanted to get a reply out there as fast as possible (replying from my phone). Once again thank you for your concern and opinion. In the video Zack mentions that Arne needs to hold on to the paadle no matter what happens because it's his. Arne might own a kayak but would not have hand paddled that waterfall. There are factored that enables Arne to do this: borrowed gear, a safety crew and internet clout. You're in the business of people's attention and if its not on camera it will not happen. A mini course does not make anyone more qualified to do this waterfall. Learn to kayak first. You are right it's a free world and Arne can makes his own decisions and the river is free to use but he is not immune to the consequences. I as a grown man can buy a bottle of vodka and drink the whole thing in one go. To self harm is my right but the consequences are that I need my friends aka safety team to call the ambulance and get my stomach pumped out by professionals in a hospital . That is my right, but still stupid. There are many things I want to do myself but I do not qualify. Like skydiving without a parachute then have my pro friends I have met at Veko clip me in and then pull the shute without any Skydive experience. (Except a mini course in the wind tunnel😊) I would be pissing on the skydiving community, even more so if I made a vblog and put it out on the Internet. In short do whatever you want but please do not piss on kayaking as sport online. Pissing on the sport is where the criticism comes from. Nothing to do with whom you are and what personality you have. You Kim are in the business of people attention and Adsens pays you for every ad shown before the vblog and it's also in your interest to have this content online so it totally has something to do with you. Distancing yourself from Arnes decision or how much Zack is involved is bias. Your making money of it and therefore does not seem genuine and bias. I really discourage you to make a long format because you're digging yourself a grave. You and Arne (on IG) are getting so much criticism because you got the kayaking community involved, from people who did not even know who Arne was before pretending to be a kayaker. I am sure you are a nice guy and keep the enthusiasm! And by writing me back promptly shows that you care about how other precive you. @@julian_stocker quick reply. Arne has done plenty of things like this without posting it. We don’t post everything, far far from it. We were vlogging our rafting experience that day. And it so happen to finish off with arne doing the Kayaking right after. It was not planned to be a part of the vlog. We do not get payed on RU-vid. The ads before video do not go to us. But the artists who we uses music from. We have chosen to use copyrighted music bc we don’t have an interest of making money of views n ads right now. We could use copy free music, it’s not in our interest. I wouldn’t compare it to skydiving. Rather basejumping. Skydiving involves a whole lot of licenses, insurances and paper works. BASE jumping is more open and accessible. Anyone can go do a base. The community won’t like it, but they can. We’ve also not pissed of a whole community. A lot of the paddlers have sent nice messages and supported the stunt. They’re not exactly super fan of how it happened. But likes the idea of him trying new things. Our intentions were never to make this a big deal. We didn’t even know it was such a big deal. For us it was just something arne presented to us, that he wanted to do for a long time, and obv we would film it and out it in the vlog. It was scary but epic at the time. If we knew it would cause such a big fluss, we would’ve included more of the dialogs around. Zack has a whole speech to arne before he says the paddle thing. It was just a joke on the spot, which we thought was funny. So we included it in the vlog. Let’s leave it like that and agree on this being a scary gnarly stunt that could’ve been executed a whole lot better, but it is what it is. We live and we learn 🙏 No bad intentions ever.
