I like how the word 'Monday' flashes to the beat of the Dr.Who theme

Doctor Who and the Monsters was a season of repeats between seasons 19 and 20 following on from the success of the Five Faces of Doctor Who repeat run. This week it was a repeat of Genesis of the Daleks!

I wonder if it provided the inspiration for Threads two years later.

@@bigredsock1 Fairly sure Mick Jackson who produced that episode of QED went onto develop Threads with Barry Hines.

Dr Who followed by plane disaster, then Taxi and Armageddon rounded off by Ray Charles (The Heroin Years). Thanks ‘82 you were always game for a laugh.

Doctor Who and the bloody monsters? Why wasn’t it just listed as Doctor Who? Incidentally, the nationwide outro was stated 1982. Peter Davison was The Doctor by then. The clip shown was Genesis Of The Daleks which around 1975. I suppose it’s just a repeat but don’t label the programme “Doctor Who and the Monsters” 🤓

It was the name of a repeat season, they did the same the previous year with The Five Faces of Doctor Who.

At the time it was just great to have some more archive repeats, they could have called it "Doctor Who and the Tacky Bug-eyed Monsters", we wouldn't have cared! Until 1981 the BBC had never shown any repeats featuring previous Doctors, and with no other (legal) way of seeing these stories, repeat seasons like this were a real treat.

I don't remember specifically, but I don't think that episode was called "The Monsters" though! I wonder if somebody didn't get the actual title and had to wing it.

It was the season of Doctor Who repeats, Monster themed. Ice Warriors; ( "Curse of Peladon") , Daleks, ( "Genesis of the Daleks") Cybermen. ( "Earthshock") Not broadcast in Wales btw.

"Doctor Who and the Monsters" was an umbrella title for a short series of repeats, similar to "The Five Faces of Doctor Who" title used for a longer series of repeats on BBC2 the previous year.

No - it was correct. The next season of repeats was titled Dr. Who and the Naughty People, followed by Dr. Who and the Horrid Thing that Can Hurt You.
