Unfortunately, a complete oversight led me to exclude The Mary Tyler Moore Show, of all shows, from this video. Take note that it was part of the fall 1970 lineup.
The opening credits of The Partridge Family are from the 2nd season, not the first. The theme song's title were different- it was "When We're Singing"in the first season, not "C'mon Get Happy," and Brian Forster had not yet replaced Jeremy Gelbwaks in the cast.
Notes... Inger Stevens was cast as the female lead in THE MOST DEADLY GAME before her tragic passing While Christopher George was THE IMMORTAL, wife Lynda Day was one of THE SILENT FORCE When FOUR-IN-ONE went to series, Lloyd Bridges replaced Pernell Roberts as its star of SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL THE INTERNS was the first series from Screen Gems/Columbia to air on CBS since the final season of HAZEL in 1965-66 THE YOUNG LAWYERS was set in Boston because Massachusetts permits law school students to try cases in court, under the supervision of a licensed attorney THE YOUNG REBELS was originally titled YANKEE DOODLE, until it was felt it sounded like Establishment patriotism, thus turning away the desired audience That is not the 1970 opening of THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY, with a version of the theme that explained the premise, and a different Chris Paramount took BAREFOOT IN THE PARK and packaged them as episodes of LOVE. AMERICAN STYLE for syndication There are rumors NANCY was cancelled because of pressure from the Nixon White House...I personally discount that, but go with the simplest reason--losing too much audience from Top 5 lead ins FLIP WILSON and IRONSIDE, in turn depressing DEAN MARTIN'S numbers In the previous season and a half, Tim Conway had flopped for CBS with a sitcom (THE QUEEN AND I) and a 30-minute variety show (the HALF A COMEDY HOUR)...so they give him a full hour THE STOREFRONT LAWYERS were three newly minted attorneys who insisted their law firm give them time to work at a neighborhood legal aid organization...as described in the CBS fall preview show: "In Century City to pay the bills--in the ghetto to pay their dues" Mid season the format was changed to keep them in Century City, and the title to MEN AT LAW There was no footage of HEADMASTER for that same preview show...it just was Andy Griffith, explaining that he would be playing the man in charge of a private school. Mid-year that was scrapped entirely, and THE NEW ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW was offered, where he played a small town mayor. Not only did that not work, they ended up finishing the season with reruns of HEADMASTER. Finally...how did you forget MARY TYLER MOORE?!?
Wait a minute drug users treated by psychiatrists? What happened? Now they're just criminals thrown in jail by the bus load. How times change. Damn Judy pace was gorgeous!
Just subscribed. .born 64 raised northern Ontario Canada grew up huge TV kid pre internet I was the go-to human IMDB Amazing how powerful this type of footage can be to both memory and "soul" Great job
@@mr.djcooncoon8196 your polling data, I assume, is publicly available? Be serious. Your views are yours, swell. But to say "all right thinking people agree with me "....Puh- Leeze.
'70-'71 was probably the first TV season I was aware of in its entirety (I turned 8 that November). Definitely watched quite a few of these. But yeah, MTM certainly conspicuous by absence.
Jack Klugman @ 14:32 was cold blooded coming out the apartment (disgarding the cigar and buttoning his trench coat). Unintentionally great example of effortless _cool_ . It's always stuck out in my memories, more so than Bogart in a trench.
Hi there! I just wanted to send you a quick note to say that I really enjoyed watching these previews, that definitely includes some VERY rare & NEVER seen anymore shows! I'm not sure if you've seen them yet since you uploaded this video, but thankfully now here on RU-vid, you can now see a promo for "Headmaster", and also "The Storefront Lawyers" if you can believe it! Cool stuff right?👌 All you need to do is type the title in the searchbar along with 1970, and they'll be the first videos that pop up! Maybe sometime in the future you can update this and edit them in! Thanks again for this, and I'll now be binge watching these previews year by year now, and it's all thanks to you! Take Care! Ms. Elizabeth📺📺📺📺
There are a few of the shows that I can remember, and the ones that I grew up watching the most were the Partridge Family and the Flip Wilson shows. I love them both. I wish that the shows that are on now were more like this.
@@oliviajohnjohnolivia8142 nice, Rowan and Martin's Laugh In, yes I remember that one. It really burned me in the fact that it was taken off the air just as I was catching on to the jokes. I was 9 and I had gone to a camp for 2 months and when I got back it was gone. We need shows like that again. Funny and they didn't hold back anything. Love from Marysville California
I have a fairly comprehensive knowledge of actors over the years and it's surprising to me how many of the performers in this video had careers of no particular significance. Hollywood, man, it's a tough town.
The original hour-long version of "McCLOUD" was part of the "FOUR IN ONE" rotation (with "ROD SERLING'S NIGHT GALLERY", "THE PSYCHIATRIST", and "SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT").
Intro music for Night Gallery was creepy and couldn't wait to watch that show. McCloud was another family favorite, I really miss good television. Haven't watched any shows for 20 yrs now, nothing but crap on
Mark moore... yeah, had gay overtones..was stationed in germany in the military in the 80's and saw 2 german dudes on a moped, the back guy with his arms around the driver. I was on my harley, a really huge bike. I had my bike shipped over, as I was promoted to sergeant and had the money. As I pulled up to a stoplight in the city of Bonn as pulled up to these 2 at a stoplight and saw this, I burst out laughing and almost dropped the bike.....OHHHH. MYYYY!!!
I was 15 in the fall of 1969. "The Partridge Family" was all the rage at my school. You should have heard us in the hallways belting out "I think I love you!" after David Cassidy first sang it.
McCloud, night gallery, the partridge family, the odd couple, Monday Night Football, are the ones I remember. But more from syndication. I was 4 in 1970. :)
I only remember a small handful of these shows.. most of them must have been broadcast after 9pm Eastern time - I was 10 y.o. in 1970 and 9pm was my bedtime til I was 12.
Sad. The Most Deadly Game was supposed to star the late Inger Stevens. The night she died, Burt Reynolds was the last to see her alive and it's believed he hit her a few times.
The Interns had some intense music over two guys on a scooter in traffic. Love all the cheesy action shows. Run towards the camera! Run away from the camera! Duck! You could always count on at least one car chase in Mannix.
He ruled network crime stopper showsl, only problem I had with their shows was they all seemed like the same show.one plot predictable story lines and obviously scripted formats ,sort of the assembly line approach to making television series
New shows in the Fall 1970 really did not hit with the viewers at that time. Only six shows made it to a second season and one was football. Can't wait to see 1975 and 1979 to complete your fall set of 1959-1987 shows. Any chance to see more mid season replacement shows.
Eventually I'll get around to '75 and '79 and do something about a lot of the mid-season shows still left to do. It would help if I could find all the intros to make it easier for me, there are still quite a few that can't be found.
Don't think that was the 1st season opening of The Odd Couple. Didn't the first season have a narrator in the beginning, that explained the premise, just in case you never saw the movie or play? Then it went into the music theme song.
The intro for Night Gallery sounds different, although it was composed by Gil Mellè. The pilot of San Francisco International Airport was featured in an episode of MST3K. 😆
The Odd Couple premiered on 24 Sep. 1970. I was born a couple of hours earlier. Doubtful that my folks watched, as mom had been drugged, and dad found Tony Randall irritating. I can see it.
If Don August becomes a big TV hit, then Burt Reynolds does not become a big time movie star. Because in 1972 he becomes a star after The Longest Yard comes out.
Looking back I think the only show I watched was Mannix which was in its third season at this time. I don't recal ever watching any of these shows in the video. I listen to a lot of music back then. Lost interest in television when the Fugitive went off the air 50 years ago this summer.
I'm sure you get this question often, however; do you have complete episodes of the shows you place openings of? I've traded shows for many years and you have several that you displayed openings for that I've been searching for. Let me know.
The vast majority of the intros you see on my videos were downloaded or screen capped in the intro form they originally appeared which were posted by others on RU-vid and on some odd other sites like Daily Motion. The rest were extracted from partial or full episodes of series, again from RU-vid, etc.. Through my searches I've downloaded a very limited number of complete episodes of odds and ends series, certainly fewer than 100 I'd say, and none as entire series. So what collection I have, if it can be called that, is miniscule compared to a genuine robust library's worth. What specifically are you looking for? The likelihood of my having any of what you seek is probably next to zero, but if I don't have it, I might be able to point to where you could find it.
The "Bold Ones" was excellent but they goofed up casting E.G. Marshall as a doctor he should have been a lawyer. He was a lawyer in "The Defenders" and was a great actor.
I always found it amusing that Danny Thomas (as "Danny Williams" in this show) chose such whitebread names. He was born Amos Muzyad Yaqoob Kairouz, and ethnically was nowhere near a "Thomas".
Zalman King from The Young Lawyers later went on to create the Showtime softcore series Red Shoe Diaries, a great place to see women who used to be somewhat famous take their clothes off and have simulated sex...not that there's anything wrong with that...
