#26 Reaching in Back Lying: Exercises for a Child with Cerebral Palsy

Meet Sebastian. He is a young boy with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. His family wants to help me share treatment suggestions to help children like him across the world. My clinic, Child and Family Development, in Charlotte, NC, allowed me to use their facilities and their equipment to showcase Sebastian's skill and charming personality. We review techniques to reduce stiffness, encourage strength and control. I think you'll love spending time with him. Thank you to this family and my clinic for allowing this to happen.
I also have available 3 children's educational books, "A is for Autism," "D is for Down Syndrome," "C is for Cerebral Palsy," and now 2 professional books "Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises for the Hips", and "Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises for the Knees" available on Amazon. I have forthcoming "A is for ADHD" as well. If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com. Please note: I am unable to provide treatment suggestions for a child I have not personally evaluated.
I am so honored to have people from all over the world watch my videos. I have reviewed and corrected the closed captions for this video so that you might understand what I am saying even if you don't speak English. I hope the directions below are helpful to you.
To turn on Captions, click CC in the bottom right corner of the video
To choose a different caption language:
At the bottom right, click Settings. It looks like a wheel.
Click Subtitles/CC.
Select a language.
If the language isn't listed when you click Subtitles/CC:
Click Auto-translate.
Select a language.

I'm just sharing to get relieved... its too much for my daughter who is 7 with severe CP. the baclofen seems not to work anymore because of the heavy, strong, and repetitive spasm every 3 minutes or so. we don't sleep she doesn't sleep either. Every time we go for physiotherapy consistently she falls sick. she can't do anything at all... kindly if you have a way that can help pls share we will be glad.

I would consult with your local spasticity management team to address your specific issues. I would also consider vibration. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DR1q23G4aNo.html

@@khawaab8767 If your child is consistently getting sick, ask your PT to wear an N95 mask and germex his/her hands before treating your child. A spasticity management team is the best bet for both of you

I am unable to provide treatment recommendations for a child. I have not personally evaluated. I have two playlist in which I follow a child with cerebral palsy. What you do with a child depends on their specific presentation. Here is the playlist for a more significantly involved child: ru-vid.com/group/PLAkJbMrHyKjOdH92UyJNlOHbB_bIvOsnk

My strongest recommendation is that you find a local pediatric physical therapist who can help you. They can customize a program to your sons needs. Here is my playlist for reaching and grasping activities. Maybe it can help you. ru-vid.com/group/PLAkJbMrHyKjNh_TJdZBEnMra-UR_NfvlL

Hi mai I had seen your video with this sabastian years ago has he not yet improved still I see he cannot control his head. I am so demotivated that cp case cannot be improved 😢😢😢😢😢 my child also has cp age 20 months
@pediatricPTexercises
@pediatricPTexercises 3 года назад
Yes you are correct. Sebastian does not have good head control yet. He has improved in his head control. He has improved in his ability to walk in a walker. He has improved in his ability to sit unsupported. But his progress is slow and measured over months and years not days and weeks as in typical development. I hope you can support and love your child exactly as he or she is and help her/him be the best she/he can be with his or her limitations. You will have a different life with your child than you would have had if you had a neurotypical child...but your child's life can still be wonderful and filled with love and joy. You will learn different lessons and see different horizons. Embrace your new adventure when you are able. I am going to try to produce a video to address your concerns. I wish you and your child the very best.
