So here it is at last, the fitting of the new upgraded brake calipers and along with that i go nuts and overhaul the complete front end.
So in the Episode what you will see is me stripping out all of the suspension and steering components so as to gain complete access to every nook and cranny of the arches.
Once emptied of all there components i gave them a thorough cleaning with an all purpose cleaner and de-greaser then rinsed and dried them off.
Once dried the rust issues were dealt with, No rust had to be cut out as was only surface and could be treated successfully chemically. I ground down all the rusty spots with an abrasive disc on the angle grinder and finished up all the hard to reach areas with a wire wheel on the drill. I then treated the areas with Deox gel to ensure there was absolutely no rust left lurking and then that was topped of with hydrate 80 to create a barrier that rust will never get through again.
Once all that had cured the arches were lined with Raptor liner tinted to match the Aspen white bodywork. While the raptor liner was curing i set about refurbishing and replacing all of the worn and grubby suspension and steering components.
These were either cleaned up and painted or in the more severe cases like the hub they were blasted clean and treated with super blue to stop them rusting again in the future. I also stripped and zinc plated all the fasteners and parts that were rusty and didn't need replaced.
So after all the Raptor liner had cured and the parts had all been refurbished i set about reversing the process and refitted them all. I also had to make new brake lines as the originals were rusted through.
I hope you will enjoy the video as i has ALOT more detail than this description as if i were to describe every detail i would need to release a pretty lengthy book haha.
so anyway Enjoy and please leave a like and comment if you enjoyed this video :)
See you al again soon

A little History
The project in question is the engine bay in my 94 Subaru Impreza WRX. As i can be heard saying in the intro of this video i love impreza's and i wanted a rust free one as all the UK ones suffer from lots of rust issues so in 2004 i imported this car from Japan and it was totally rust free when it arrived all those years ago. It has a couple of blisters here and there now but thats to be expected when living in Scotland.
Anyway im getting off track, I was having lots of fun driving the car at full boost everywhere until 2014 when the thought popped into my head " lets go for more power" so i took the engine out and begun the process of having it all upgraded, better gaskets, race bearings, forged pistons, con rods etc etc then life got in the way and the engine was put to the side and the car was stored in a shed for the past 5 years.
The initial condition of the car looks horrifying but its only a thick layer of dust and crud on it and there is a good layer of carnuaba wax separating all the crud from the paint so a quick pressure wash and she'll be looking good again .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new addition to my videos from now on will be a water mark and my channel name popping up in random places throughout the video as im getting rather tired of people re-uploading my content as their own i hope you guys understand.
If you like what you see and have any ideas for the channel or would even like to donate something to restore to the channel please get in touch. :)
And as usual if you liked the video please like share and subscribe and help the channel grow.

great job as usual, only one remark: when tighten the swingarm's front screw, it must be the same position as the car sitting on the wheels otherwise the rubber in the silentblock will be damaged very soon...

I think you should reply to this comment since it is VERY IMPORTANT to prevent failure of the front lower arm bushing. Tighten the bolt after the car is down with weight on wheels or you will rip the bushing on the first bump you hit.

Looks great! I don’t know if this particular car is like this, but I have always been told that all torque specs on the suspension bolts apply when the weight of the car is loaded on the suspension. You may want to retorque with the weight loaded on all 4 corners before you actually start doing events with it!
@TheAcethunder32
@TheAcethunder32 3 года назад
You are correct. This is so the bushings are in a neutral position with the weight loaded. If not you WILL see premature bushing failure.

Hey Guys, For everyone concerned about me using copper for the brake lines i would just like to let you know that they are NOT copper, they are an alloy containing some copper hence the colour and are sold as fully tested and rated brake line replacement. So unlike pure copper it doesn't work harden over time and shear or crack under high pressure. No safety issues here what so ever but i want to thank you all for being concerned about my safety ;)
@alisdairherd9501
@alisdairherd9501 3 года назад
Used to be steel Bundy tube but now would be more commonly kunifer or cupronickel tube. Ironically we use copper nickel alloys now because steel tubing may suffer from corrosion. So steel is less safe.

They're good but those 14mm bolts are notorious for snapping off in the knuckle. You also have to be careful spreading it to get the ball joint out. Really easy to break those eyes off the knuckle with a chisel or a flat head as shown in the vid.

Technically speaking yes they should be as tightening them while in the air tends to "preload" the bush making it wear a bit faster than it normally would but as this car isnt my daily driver and will only see the road a few times a year im not overly concerned about slightly accelerated bush wear.Thanks for leaving a nicely thought out comment though :)

@armaxkovalenko1230

А какая вообще разница в том что ты написал? Он в шаровую и рулевой наконечник смазку не забил, сейчас покатается маленько, а когда в следующий раз будет ходовку трясти уже не будет бездумно клей лить.
