I might be ocd but I always try to keep my clearances in the middle of the spec your intake are 0.13 right on the edge of spec It won’t be long before there out of spec 10-15hours if I was you and I was already in there I’d just put 0.02 smaller shims in and be done with it you’d know you’ll be fine for another 40+hours Also btw the H mark on the fly wheel would be ignition timing mark it’s roughly 10 degrees before tdc that would be my best educated guess

Hey Vegas, I noticed the 2 punch marks on both intake and exhaust cams. Did you happen to COUNT the number of pins on the cam chain between marks on intake cam to between marks on the exhaust cam? We used to count number of pins on the chain on the old carb'd 250Fs to help make sure we had the cams correctly timed, in addition to the punch marks lined up with the edge of the top of the head.

Excellence knowledge your sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 265 hours, still factory valves, 2 thumbs up Yamaha!(but we expect that, lol) I'm sure you have a video, But I don't remember if you have done a top end on this bike, Have you? Have you tracked compression? You ride harder than I, so your results you share are so nice. I usually have a KTM, but sell after I ride them for a season, maybe 2, then sell before needing a top end or valve work , lol I'd keep a 250fx longer, but they are super hard to find used in Utah(some thanks to you!!!!!!!!!!!)

What does the cylinder look like? Have you checked the ring gap? Any change in compression test? Definitely curious to see how long this bike will keep going.
@vegasromaniac
@vegasromaniac 3 года назад
4 strokes you can't do compression test, they have a auto decompression, also ring gap its more for a 2t... This 4t has like way too many.. I never bothered to take the head off, I do risk to ride with a cracked piston that can blow, but it's very rare on 4t
@blu3flare25
@blu3flare25 2 года назад
@@vegasromaniac You can do a compression test on auto decompression cams. The manual for my 2011 kx250f states 60-100PSI for normal range. Auto decompression cams only exhaust partial of the compression stroke, thus there is still a consistent measurable compression level.

Just curious I am at about 60 hours right now on my 17 250fx. Is there anything I should be concerned about with the engine or suspension. Besides basic maintenance, I haven't done anything to it and I ride on extremely rocky and rough terrain. As of lately sometimes it takes a little longer than usual to start when the bike is warm. And the bike backfires a good bit on deceleration.
@vegasromaniac
@vegasromaniac 3 года назад
When it starts hard and back fires, I would check the valves asap... Usually that means they might need adjusting

Awesome video , I hope u can help please , I have 2015 YZ250F and just wondering how many hours do I need to check the valve clearance ? And hours to do a top end rebuild ? I’m new to this and my bike didn’t come with a manual and can’t find nothing online 🙈 also I’m not a hard fast rider and don’t go racing , only trials and a few practice mx tracks , my bike only done 35 hours so far , hope u can help thanks 😊

@@vegasromaniac Shock, fork oil and viscosity degrades with age meaning the oil will be thicker cold and thinner hot and gets worse as you ride. It should be changed every year or two depending on how many hours. I change my own fork oil but send my shock away for a service ($100) as I don't have the right tools and nitrogen. You will be surprised what a difference an oil change makes to the handling of the bike.
