That "don't build this circuit" will probrably be exactly what will make me build it hahaha. Thanks for another nice video Peter. 73 and have an amazing week.

I heard that thing hissing over here! Just kidding Peter. Great video! And as my old friend Charles "Chuck" Kitchin N1TEV used to say " Mike they will never build anything if it contains more than 10 to 20 parts". Goodonya Mate!

I maded superregen with 10 bands ( ~ 25MHz to 150...160MHz ) Good for aviation band 110-140MHz AM, FM with distortions... NFM - silent :D

absolutely beautiful, is there anyway to increase the range capabilities on the receiver part without an 11 meters antena ? i am a full noob that is looking to make an old style remote control thingy, i know there are much easier solutions(and cheaper) like arduino and rf modules, but i still want to meet my goal of making an old style aeromodel with a 1km range

At 0:25, what's the 82pf cap for? It connects from emitter of Bc548 to gnd.

Hi Peter, thanks for the videos. Quick question. I have made a long wire antenna out of fine copper wire. I figured low current so thickness wouldn't matter. Am I wrong and a thicker wire would make a much better antenna? Thanks in advance.

A thicker wire may be slightly lower loss and wider bandwidth (for resonant antennas).

Peter mate that's a wee belter of a homebrew your stuff is the business man , I think it's my cousin Kenneth or Robert who is into his radio stuff too down in the burbs outskirts of Sydney. Should be able to start paying for ma wee yaesu ft next week, buying it on layaway 200 a month type idea, hope i can qso with you soon (power supplies proper antenna swr/power atu, soon probably being a few months bro, at that stage I'm looking at pictures of the 817 and salivating lol). 73's and looking forward to your next video mate, Rab T.

I managed to get on the air with 100W for a little under $500.00 Second hand Yaesu FT747GX, found a HP server 750W power supply for $25 that pushed out 12V, Jumpered a component to get it to push out 13.5V. Some old coax Ethernet leads, a 100m spool of wire and some toroidal cores An old SWR meter, old straight key and a NanoVNA to tune the antennas. I’ve spent a little bit more since then, but not a lot. It helps when you know how to fix things, but the FT747GX was working perfectly when I got it.

@@MidlifeRenaissanceMan How did you find out what to modify in the powersupply to raise the voltage to 13.5V?

Charles Kitchin’s design is strictly a regenerative receiver. I don’t see a control for quenching in his design.
@thomasvandevelde8157

You've got the Quench network wrong sir. The1k variable resistor should become at least 4,7k fixed and the 1k potentiometer should be put in series with the 2n2 capacitor and earth, in between ground and the cold end of the 2n2 capacitor that is. Now you are preventing it to super-regenerate by the layout in 5:25. If you'll look at the original ARRL article and schematic, you'll spot the mistake. Regards, Thomas

Good suggestion; that allows changing RC of the quenching circuit without changing the biasing of the transistor.

My understanding of the legislation only allows restoration of pre existing Regen As far as i remember, any new regens are not allowed. Are you able to verify this? If a regen does not radiate when oscillating, then it may be exempt Regards Andrew VK5WT
@vk3ye
@vk3ye 2 года назад
Legislation doesn't mention regens or receiver radiation at all. You would be foolish to use a superregen on the VHF aircraft band. But bands like 27 MHz or 433 MHz are class licensed LIPD bands so there are no issues with a bit of incidental radiation. If it's still a worry you can add an RF amplifier stage.

How do I order the kit for both Hf and vhf?
@vk3ye
@vk3ye 3 года назад
There is no kit. Build it from scratch. If this is too complex start with something simpler like a crystal set then an audio amp then regen or direct conversion for HF.
