Very nice video Thank you! Downconverter /AM is the idea!

Quite sensitive to hear 10 meters CW, excellent results from a simple circuit and fun too

👍Thanks for posting Peter. I wodered if there is a lot of 10m SSTV in VK? In EU many SSTV ops seems to stick to 20m only which is a shame when condx are good on higher bands.

Thanks Peter, interesting stuff. Do you have any general advice on identifying the connections on that type of variable capacitor. I have a few but the markings are hard to read and I don't think they are all necessarily the same. Thanks.

O is oscillator, A is antenna, G is ground. O is smaller value eg 60pF, A is larger value eg 160pF. Good idea to buy a small capacitance/inductance meter to check.

Peter, is it possible to hear VHF airband, if I couple a 100 Mhz crystal oscillator to a digital radio covering upto 30 mhz maximum. So then if I tune the radio to 18 Mhz and above, will it be possible to hear the airband from 118 Mhz to 130 Mhz. Please reply.
@vk3ye
@vk3ye Год назад
No. You will need to build a converter using that crystal oscillator and a mixer stage. Then it may work assuming the radio receives the AM mode.

I mean a 100 mhz xtal oscillator and a mixer of 18 mhz to 36 mhz, then will it work fine and give me a product of 118 mhz to somewhere 127 mhz.

How about a VLF Receiver?...Thanks!

I would suggest an upconverter to an existing receiver as demonstrated here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9hM7LqSwtlw.html

Hello Peter, can I use 36Mhz crystal ? I meant 36 - 27 = 9 Mhz
@vk3ye
@vk3ye 11 месяцев назад
It might work but I suggest not. Unless you modify the crystal oscillator circuit to operate the crystal in overtone rather than fundamental mode. 36 MHz crystals are typically overtone type that will likely oscillate on their fundamental frequency in the circuit described here. That means more problems including reception of unwanted frequencies.

@@vk3ye Ok. For 100uH RFC, can I use 150uH ?

So this mixer consists of the variable capacitor, diode, and inductor? What is this type of mixer called? (I'm trying to learn about mixers right now).
@vk3ye
@vk3ye Год назад
I'd say just a single diode mixer. More often used for simple microwave stuff. Performance eg dynamic range isn't as good as other mixer types. But it's reasonably sensitive.

@@vk3ye cool thanks. I watched your radio block videos with the plastic containers. They were really good for me getting started understanding radio design. Once i learn enough I'd like to build an SSB transceiver for 28Mhz. Much appreciated.

Sorry to disturb you but what is the best radio to buy As a new ham I just would like to your opinion I am not very good at writing emails I'm more of a person to talk face-to-face That's why I like ham radio I will keep chasing your phone number You are very hard to get hold of
