Same here except instead of a friend I want one and actually have a tank for one now Also are they fish that should be kept in groups? I had originally assumed solo was just fine
@@curgunner I bought 2 like 8 months ago and they seem super social hiding together in the same cave and such till one jumped out the tank and died while I was at work now there’s one left he’s perfectly fine but less out and about
These are my favorite videos by far. So cool to see all the different types of fish that are possible to keep and raise and breed. Thanks for sharing.🙏✌️👍💗💯🔥
Love these videos, Dan. Always make me want more fish! I especially like that you do not make fish available until they stabilize in your tanks. Makes me always feel confident in ordering from you.
Woohoo! New fishies. I love these "look what we have in stock" videos. Of course, when I watch one of these video I see fish I want. I need those bettas!
My first time seeing Xenophallus umbratilis as well. I really like them: dansfish.com/product.detail/6455/Shadow-Toothcarp-Pair-(1M1F)-(Xenophallus-umbratilis)
Hey Dan thank you for the "tour" of the newest batch of fish. What a great variety to choose from. Those killifish are stunning. I can see how easy it would be to get yourself into breeding them. Haha I would have to get some of each of them, and then I would be in a baby fry overload. WHEW. It would be like my trip through wonderland with guppies. LMBO. 😆. Hey when you say "annual killifish" does that mean they're the ones that live only a year?
They are called annual because in nature their habitat dries up every year (twice a year for some species), and they reappear when it rains. I think the term was brought over from horticulture. In the aquarium, they can live about twice their natural life span...maybe more. But they are probably not going to last much more than 2 years...2.5 year would be ancient for these fish.
Love this. Cory from Aquarium Coop finally convinced me to pick some fish up from you, excited to see how they turn out! I've had my eye on your store ever since you commented on a post I made on the Aquarium Coop forum and finally decided to give it a shot! This video made it a lot easier to decide what I was gonna get
Yep. That's the problem with common/market names. There are multiple names for the same fish and it can get confusing. Personally, I wouldn't call them that...I think a red wag is a pretty specific looking fish. But once we get out of the realm of scientific names, its pretty much a free-for-all when it comes to nameing.
I wonder if anyone has had luck aquarium breeding the Betta smaragdina? I've been waiting on imbellis to come back in to start a 20g long tank with a couple pairs in a colony breeding set up. But these guys are beautiful! Making me rethink waiting on imbellis...😅
Native American fish tend not to appeal to the majority of US aquarists, and this phenomenon was remarked upon as far back as the1970s, when I started my fishkeeping. On the other hand, German aquarists in particular treat sunfishes and various American cyprinids as treasured exotica, and have done again since the 1970s. Right now, Elassoma species in particular command premium prices in the German market, and you'll find that various Lepomis species are almost as prized as Mbuna from Lake Malawi. But the true holy grail of North American fishes in the German market are Cyprinodon pupfishes. Those will change hands for several hundred Euros a pop, especially the really rate ones. Turn up at a German fish show with a breeding pair of Comanche Spring Pupfishes, and people will literally throw money at you.
At 11:50 not sure why the humpbacks aren’t more popular…. I’ve said that about Florida Flagfish. Great look and great personality and easy to breed especially outdoors according to lots of people.
At the moment, we are gathering a lot of data about this. Examining every new fish for disease, treating it, and compiling the results. It will take a while, but once we have enough data that we think it is reliable, we will share this info.
I thought I had been subscribed to you since I came across your channel and really enjoy watching your videos. I just noticed I wasn’t..so deff subscribed now!
There's nothing wrong with small, young fish. It means you get to keep them around for just that much longer. Seems like a pretty good deal to me! Can't wait until we get into better weather. There's all kinds of things on the site that I want, but if they get sent now, they will arrive in a frozen block of ice, even if a heat pack is included. Wyoming is a neighbouring state, but somehow it always gets colder here. In fact, the last few day it's been colder here than it is in Anchorage, Alaska. I am in such great agreement about Killifish. Problem is, I fear I might end up killing the killifish. I'm just not sure enough of my abilities I guess.
A lot of them spawn for us, but we're not set up to raise fry in most cases. We have a few colonies of livebearers that take care of themselves, but that's about it.
Hey Dan, planning on being a first time buyer this week. Curious if you had specific days you shipped? I have a tank in need of a handful of of those Dan's Goldeneyes. Any and all time is greatly appreciated!
Can you share your preliminary treatment regime with betta smaragdina? Or is the assumption that when you order online they are usually already treated for parasites etc.?
With the wild Betta smaragdina, we find it more important to focus on preventing bacterial infections than internal parasites, so that's what we focus on with this species.
Thank you that is helpful. I realized by the end that I could order them from you! I'm quite interested in this species and if space opens up I may do just that. @@DansFish
We have a group in quarantine now. They are doing well and should be ready to sell this week or next week. If you click the green "Add to Wish List" button at this link, you will automatically be notified by email once they are available: dansfish.com/product.detail/5073/Dwarf-Chain-Loach-(Ambastaia-sidthimunki)
I have an order building… but… I need a male Rachovii and ideally a blue flame as well. Is it possible to bypass the website and do an order more verbally or whatever? These don’t seem to be on the website yet.
we probably don't breed the black banded sunfish because we are to busy eating them, lol😅. btw, I have a question, the beautiful annual killifish that was shown, are they called annual because lifespan is only a year or so?
They are called annual because in nature their habitat dries up every year (twice a year for some species), and they reappear when it rains. I think the term was brought over from horticulture. Up to a dozen or so. In fact, with this species, I think the more the merrier. We've had a big group in a 40 breeder for quite a while, and they get along famously. I think the large group prevents aggression issues.
Do the Saffron Mollies have gonopodiums yet? Should you take out the dead / empty snails out of the Panda Cory tank? I would hate that the cories die from the snails.
Which species are you waiting for? We have Long Fin Corydoras aeneus in stock here: dansfish.com/product.detail/1973/Long-Fin-Cory-aeneus-(Corydoras-aeneus)
love your fish, but $90.00 for an angel? I just can't fathom that price no matter how much qt they do through. guess ill just enjoy them on your videos
Yep. Those wild-type angelfish are pretty pricey. However, there are several domestic strains which are much more cost effective. You can see them here: dansfish.com/catalog.dive/5
Sure its possible. They are the same species, just different color forms. I'm sure someone would frown upon it, but there is always someone frowning at everything. I don't see anything wrong with experimenting with breeding different color forms together. Its one of the ways we develop new color forms in aquarium fish.
Betta smaragdina are the largest of the bettas in the SPLENDEN complex and are just as territorial as other splendens and should not be kept together! I love your channel and you usually have great information but this is not the case with these bettas. Give them enough time to get situated and they will kill each other 😢
