This ONE OWNER, 27k Mile C4 is the nicest car any of us here at Stay Tuned have ever seen. It was just purchased at Auction by my good buddy Brenden, and he thought it would be a good idea to leave it with us for a week to give it a once over. Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned crew surprised him with a bunch of sweet upgrades to this absolute time capsule and made it better, faster, and even cooler than when it rolled off the showroom floor in 1986!
Right now, Avalon King is offering a special discount for Stay Tuned viewers! Buy the MAX Ceramic Coating and you'll get a FREE Rim Reaper Tyre Cleaner!

The content on the channel is always killer but I'm excited to see Stay Tuned move into the dramatic reenactment game. Kudos to the actors for the moving portrayals of Brenden and the C4 both. The haters said a minivan could never play a vette and you've proved them all wrong!

Fun Fact: The C4 Corvette was so dominant at the Sports Car Club of America's series known as the Showroom Class, that BMW and Porsche, who were running the E30 and the 944, had six to seven full time German engineers at the races to see why the Corvettes were so dominant, consistently finishing First thu Fourth!! The series was set up as a showroom class because all you had to do was add a roll cage for safety and then shave the tires for track grip and go race! The Goodyear Eagle GT tires(Gatorbacks) that came on the Corvette, BMW and Porsche were the one of the first really super sticky, almost R compound tires of the day, taken straight from Formula 1s "rain tires" . The bone stock Corvettes were so unbeatable that the SCCA actually had to start a series called the "Corvette Challenge" because the Germans just couldn't keep up !

@@StayTunedTA They are on a different level. Everyone hates on them, but I just don't understand why, outside of raddles and plastic that can break. You can't beat that off the line TPI power, insane handling. The Z51 cars were even more next level, with the bilsteins, bigger sway bars, pusher/puller fans and a massive radiator, oil cooler, 12.7:1 steering ratio. and a better rear gear ratio. I think the wheels were 9" wide vs the regular 8, 8.5 wheels. Ok I miss mine now. You have a killer car!

A C4 Corvette has been a staple of my automotive bucket list for years, ever since I got to get up close with my neighbor's. I instantly fell in love with the LCD dash, and I'm a sucker for the pop ups and turbofan wheels. I want to build one as a Vette kart, but I want to try and retain some of the iconic C4 elements like those wheels, pop ups, and the dash, as well as trying to form the exoskeleton to mimic some of the shape and body lines. Such an awesome machine!
@BBossman1
@BBossman1 5 месяцев назад
LOL... I worked in a Corvette specialty shop when these came out. The C4 made the C3 seem like a Conestoga wagon. By todays standards, these may as well be a C1, still cool to see one that nice though. Damn I'm getting old...

Honestly the C4 corvette is my favourite of the bunch. That retro futuristic styling, wedge body shape, gorgeous turbine wheels, and clean lines are just wonderful. I know they break down, they're neglected, the instrument cluster is unreliable, they're slower than the LS cars, but they're just special feeling and looking.
@ratherbeboating10
@ratherbeboating10 5 месяцев назад
Having driven a lot of them, the C4 ends up being the last... I don't know what the right word really is... I guess analog or traditional feeling one of the bunch... You drive it and go "okay... muscle car go kart." Not that the newer ones aren't better in every single way. It's just there is a level of rawness about it that makes it fun but it can still be tame and they drive really well. I'd personally want one of each but the C4 is an outlier for sure.

$14k would be steep pre-covid but I think prices have come up on the C4 a bit now that all the other go-to cars of the era have shot up in price. As was said earlier in the video. A $6k C4 would need way more than 8 grand to make it as nice as the low mile csr for $14k. I paid $4k for mine in 2020, I put over 20 into it. Most of that was in upgrades, but stuff like carpet, weatherstripping, digital dash repair all adds up pretty quick. Stay Tuned needs their own C4! Pick a driver quality one up, throw in a ZF6 or TKX and hop up that small block chevy.

I’ve had my 1986 C4 for almost 30 years. The 383 it has now makes it. You should talk him into doing that. It sort of negates the 1986 smog detuning and makes it more competitive with today’s cars, and you can use the numbers matching block to do it. Late year alum heads mean roller block, one piece seal. With 27,000 miles, it’s clearance the block, change rotating assy, pick your cam AFR heads and hold on

Excellent buy, I’ve always liked the C4 Corvette, I think it has the best tail lights and headlights. If you get some GM silicone weatherstrip lubricant and put it on all of the door gaskets and seals in that car it will make it nice and quiet again. The majority of all the little squeaks and rattles will go away. Plus if you go through with a Phillips screwdriver and a torque bit and tighten up all the little trim pieces etc. you will have a nice tight car Corvette again.

As a guy who is refurbishing a 1988 manual C4 coupe, I would say that this car was worth _every bit_ of $14.5k. People today just don't understand what a serious, well-engineered, world class sports car the C4 Corvette was. It was the C8 of its day, but that was 40 years ago and we had no internet back then. However, you can still look up period road tests in the Car&Driver archives, for example, and you just might be amazed at how good the C4 really is. They are incredible bargains hiding in plain sight today. A word of caution on a car like this one, though. Every original piece of rubber in it is now roughly 40 years old and needs to be replaced. That includes fuel lines, for example! Fire sucks... It also includes coolant lines, brake lines, suspension bushings, weather seals, etc.

I was a GM tech back in the 80's I hated working on those but I loved the test drive. People didn't know or forgot the C4 was the first production car that could hold 1 G in the corners. It could not hold it very long because of the tires technologies at that time. I always felt the 350 TPI in the Corvette was under rated. On paper the 350 TPI where only a little more powerful then the 305 TPI in the Iroc. The cars were night a day. THe only bad thing about that car in the manual transmission and the dash.

Beautiful car! I have an 86 c4 as well, copper metallic with tan interior, just a hair over 46,000 miles on it. Lots of fun to drive!

Some of you might like to read the article I wrote for Corvette Enthusiast Magazine called "Deadly C4". It was about a black over red 86 coupe that was owned by a guy from New York. The previous two owners had died. The car was just as pristine as this one and had some tasteful mods. Unfortunately the guy who owned the car also passed away about 3 years after the article was published. It is great to see the original wheels on this car as most of the 84-87 wheels you see out there are severely oxidized. Nice job!

I have an 89 C4 with the 6 speed. It's a really great roadtrip car. I can drive it 16-18 hours at a crack and not sore or particularly tired at all.

Wow. Even here in Florida, it's hard to find a C4 that clean. Brenden got lucky!

man thats a nice vette. definitely the way to buy. seems like a decent price too. i ran across the same dilemma when i bought my 08 mustang. i looked at a bunch of junk. ended up spending a little more and bought an original owner, 7500 mile 08 mustang gt. thought i over paid for it but man the prices have gone nuts since i purchased it in 2019.

It makes sense to even overpay a little, as it's always more expensive than you think to put everything right on an average car.

I like the c4 body style. And I think that was the first modern Corvette that was lighter and redesigned, and I was told the 95 and 96 are the most desirable, and have the most power and a 6-speed manual. I also like the tilt front end.

Indeed. The C4 was a serious sports car where the earlier generation cars were more along with the muscle car tradition despite a few nods to thoroughbred ideas. In the early years the C4 comprehensively beat on track everything Europe and Japan could muster. It was the first production car to break 1G on the skid pad too, with street tires.

I think he did well on the purchase price of the car as recall it was $15K. I just bought an '87 base coupe auto with 50,655 on the clock now at 51K for $7K but it has some issues: Brakes had to be redone, added stainless braided lines for pedal feel (might as well doing full flush pad and caliper replace anyway) new tires done, some weird wiring due to PO adding a burglar alarm that was poorly installed. I have about $10K in her car with a bit more to go. The ceramic coating is a must, incredible results! Hers is silver with a charcoal interior, paint is excellent, but it needs clay a bar treatment. It came with a new cat back I think it's a Borla.

I bought one of these cars out of a Quaker steak & lube a few years ago when they closed.. it was up on a lift in the restaurant and you could eat at the table under it! Always had a soft spot for them!

My coworker has a c4 that has a very low amount of miles on it. He also purchased it from a widow a few years back for half of what your buddy paid! It handles great! My cousin had a C4 ZR1 back in the day and I remember it being very very fast when i was 13!

Thanks Tony. My parents bought the 84 “new” corvette and we were the hit of the block at the time. Cross fire injection first yr. Sooo slow. But cool. I will always miss that car. And now in my 50’s I rather get another C4 and upgrade it rather than these new midengines. Thank you so much and will follow you here from now on
