I recently went from a C5Z to a C6Z and I'm glad I did strickly based on performance. Both are modded but the C6 is modded more. What I miss about my C5 is an actual door handle, real key to crank with, battery location, and less electronics to deal with. But we all have to admit the C6 is a step up in other ways but what's most important is to be happy.
The built in diagnostic tool on the C5 wasn’t supposed to be common knowledge for the owners. It was for the Mr. Goodwrench technicians. If you go through the owners manual, you will see the diagnostic tool isn’t listed in there. I think Chevy didn’t want owners diagnosing the problems and fixing the car on their own so they removed it for C6, 7 and 8.
Possibly. But you can get a free scan from most parts stores. However just because you get a code doesn't mean you know what to do with it so it was probably for another reason.
Prices will be the lowest going into this winter than they will have been or I date day will by for awhile. The novelty of the C8 is starting to wear off and it will more next year and the prices of the 6th and 7th gens are go I I'm my top come up a little and balance back to what they should be.
Good Info , I think I will stick with my C 5 Z06. Not enough changes to make me go C6. However one day I would like to add a C 7 Z06. I don't even want a C8. I'm old school so I will leave that up to the next generation of car nuts.
This was an outstanding presentation and analysis and I think you are spot on. Of course I have an 08 LS3 C6 💪 Did a widebody base conversion, bigger transport wheels, bigger carbon diffuser, sides skirts, spoiler, custom intake headers and NPP exhaust tips for loudness. Complete dated Stereo speakers, and a limited edition SLP hood with intake 😎 I love her. 144k strong.
Owned 3 C5’s and 1 C6 base models. The C6 LS3 engine has 430hp vs the C5 LS1 with 350hp. WOT is insane on the C6 while it is very strong on the C5. No extreme big difference under normal driving conditions. The C6 gets 60% of its air intake from its front grill and 40% from the lower air dam. The C5 gets 100% of its air intake from its front grill only. Wheels on the C6 are staggered 18” and 19” while the C5 uses staggered 17” and 18”. Tires cost more on the C6 than C5. Lastly, the fixed front head lights cost more than the flip up headlights on the C5. Both wonderful generations and styling may be the subjective deciding factor. Read where the engineers claimed to eliminate over 100 issues on the C5 with the newer C6 although finding specific improvements is not readily available. C6 is considered by some as a C5 Revision 2.
I just looked and your correct - tires are a fair bit more for the C6. Not a deal breaker but definitely something to put on the plus/minus chart when deciding which gen to buy!
So which would you say is the more reliable with regard to major issues? And which one is easier to repair (major issues)? Is there something with the C5 that says the engine and trans and diff need to come out together? I hope I'm getting this wrong, that would be a major deal breaker. But this is the stuff YTers don't talk about.
@@arcsound For C5's I believe the 2001-2002 automatic models have the least issues. Manuals need to easily correct the Steering Column Lockout. Pre-2001 models have to deal with potential Electronic Brake Control Module. The 2003-2004 models use a revised fuel tanks that can be expensive to correct. Avoid the Selective Ride Control and especially the Magnetic Ride Control where replacement shocks cost thousands to replace. Look out for 2004 with this as one cannot replace the shocks with others and program this option off. All must be aware of harmonic balancer wobble. Look at the battery tray to make sure there never was acid leakage onto the main computer. I believe changing the clutch requires extensive disassembly on both C5 and C6 models.( Engine, torque tube, rear differential). Then rebuilding the torque tube at the same time is wise. Most local shops charge $2,000 and up to replace the clutch. I never saw an automatic transmission needing replaced? I would say for the C6, the best are 2008 - 2012 models. LS3 engines are the best value and a few have had major issues with LS2 engines. I am not a huge fan of the C6 over the C5 with its added electronic gizmos. Plus I love the pop up headlights and curvy versus chiseled exterior design. Be aware that all C6's can have leaking fuel issues at the top of the tanks. Very costly to correct. Design flaw that is no linger warranted. I hope no one takes offense in my comments. This has been my personal experience owning 3 C5's and 1 C6 in the past four years. As of today, I am sticking with my 2002 and not buying any more Corvettes. Just enjoying what I believe is the best value model. Hope this helped out. Regardless, look for stock and well maintainded versions. Paying a few $1,000's or more gets you a much superior Corvette than abundant lower cost ones. Hold their valie too. Best of luck.
@@jackscott6551 2001 and early production 2003 models are worthy considerations too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ChuqnWwyt_M.htmlsi=foMq5gaUBoEreJDa
Have owned a black 2005 XKR coupe for 10 years, and just added a Crystal Red 2008 Corvette coupe. The XKR is a sophisticated and stunning brunette with an English accent, a strapless black cocktail dress, pearl necklace, and high heels, while the Vette is a barefooted strawberry blonde, wearing cut-off jeans, a wet T-shirt, and with legs that go all the way up. I am in love with them both.
Larry! Jason helped me find you here. awesome vids and even better t-shirt. Good to see your mug-Kenny Schmidt ps-i had a 99 C05 for a while. loved it.
Hey Kenny, it's been a long time!!! That Fiero that's in some of my videos is actually the chassis from the car that you ownen for a short while, how's that for bizarre! Hope all is well 🙏
I would take the C6 over the C5 any day for looks and performance. However, I really do not like the unnecessary complexity on the C6 in many areas. No physical door handles, optical sensor for fuel level, TPMS sensors notifications that you cannot disable...
Great Video I have a C5 now wanted to upgrade to 6/7 but my car seems longer and spacious than the other two. I would like to see one of your comparisons 5 6 and 7. Then I can make up my mind. Thanks 😊
I also noticed they removed the cover around the battery/fuse box on the c6 and it's all just exposed to the header heat, unlike the c5. My guess is they wanted the c6 to have the battery in the trunk but ended up only doing that with the Z06/ZR1
I didn't really like the C5 Vette because it's a little larger, but I must say that a really clean C5 is very had to deny so I'm convinced that it's just as you say it comes down to preference and which one fits you best, thank fir clearing things up even though I'm still not totally sure which I'd prefer having not driven one yet!!
I have been trying to buy a 2003 C5 for over one year now. Recently a dealer in Ohio (Millenium Yellow) said he would not sell any vehicle to a California resident (supposedly because of our "privacy laws"?), another (Electron Blue) sold the car while my credit union had just issued the cashier's check and the last one (true 50th) had a Corvette advertised that had sold before the ad came out. A Corvette in Washington state had the air cleaner upgrade that would not pass California smog testing, had the Z06 valve covers, and the aftermarket radio caused the dash trim to break. Since I have property in Arizona, I will register the car there (online) and leave it at a friend's home near St. Louis, Missouri until the Corvette Museum 30th Anniversary event next August. The day I applied for the Arizona "ID Only", the yellow was sold to another customer. There seem to be more Corvettes with low mileage in the Midwest than in California, except for the 813-mile yellow one that has been advertised at $39,995 for nine months, in Fillmore at Bunnin Chevrolet.
@@arcsoundIt's nowhere near a "People's Republic". Our parents arrived from the Midwest and instilled their values in our family. There are good and bad places in every state. Look what happened to Minneapolis.
Isn't there a baffle or flap on the rear driver side under the paneling that designed to release cabin pressure when the door and rear hatch are closed? if that is not working, that may prevent the back pressure from being released, thus making the hatch a little more difficult to close. BTW, I have a bit of shinny new object syndrome, I've had my C5 2003 for two months and my C3 1972 is a jealous girl. @GenXVette
I can appreciate the better functionality on the C6 hatch closing, but when it broke I didn't appreciate the $430 cost for the part. They frequently break too. Replacement was simple enough.
Im currently in the market for either a c5 or c6, is there a difference in the brakes between the two on the base model? I'm leaning towards c6, but thats mostly due to the higher rpm & power. But the no storage box & no door handles kinda sucks. Ive now subcribed, keep the info coming.
Love the curves of the C5. The C6 has always struck me as stubby looking. My navy blue 2000 C5, it will just stop me in my tracks sometimes and I will just stare, it's beautiful.
The real reason the scan feature was eliminated has to do with money. Like everything else. The check engine light will send you to the GM service center. Or,,, Maybe I'm wrong.
I come to the godfather of vettes to ask a humble question, I cant seem to find info anywhere else, because it may be a stupid question: Is there a way to lower the rpm that the rev limiter is set at? I have a c5 that'll hit 200k soon and I've never really hit the rev limiter in fear of putting too much strain on it. Is there a way to have a tuner lower the limiter to say 5500-5600 rpm? Is there a cheaper route to achieving this? Is this something the LNC-003 could do for me? It would be awesome to have a launch control limiter as well but I dont know if its possible to do both, a launch limiter at 3000rpm and an overall limiter at 5500ish? Thanks again, your knowledge is so extensive it would be amazing to get your help on this!
I know a few things - but certainly no godfather(:-)! HP tuners can easily do this. that having been said, the factory redline on the C5's is conservative and I highly doubt a lowering the Redline to 5500 make a difference..
I Ve always like corvette cars..... First time, that I heard about "(CORVETTS- CAR'S)"......... IT WAS IN THE"(1960'S)"....... when these cars came out....... I was a teen-ager...... I always new, that the "(CORVETT'S)" we're sport-cars😅❤😊😮🎉
I have an 08 Z06 and the rear hatch does NOT auto retract. I have to give it CPR if both door windows are closed. Do I have a broken actuator? Other c6 guys please chime in. Does your rear hatch auto retract?
So, which model is more reliable? You may not have enough time with the C6, but hopefully the other SME's here can comment. I don't care about 500 revs difference. These are both more than adequate with regard to performance. What I need to know is which one will have major failures during normal high mileage driving, and which one is a PIA to fix major items, like a clutch?
I drove my boosted C6 90 mph for 4 hours in 95 deg heat. My right leg was hot really hot and my right arm and face was freezing cold from AC. When installing headers I installed heat deflector material to the drive shaft tunnel for no noticable improvement. Iv seen C6 with shrunk carpets from this heat. Anyone else experience this?
@@LeftBehind666 C6 models are great Corvettes. Especially the LS3 ones. Keep a keen eye on the battery and use Tecron fuel additive. Loved my ‘09 but too powerful for where I live. Bought it for $28k and sold two years later for $27.5k.
Too many variables to consider. Owned both generations and for most driving, the difference was minimal. Tires make the most difference. Love my Michelin Pilots. Best investment in my C5.
I'll take the bullet proof lS6 over the need to revalve the LS7 any day. Never saw holes in my LS6 block. Can't say the same about my C6 z06. Yes the c6 is a more refined car but that is generational and should not be conflated with the c5. New Suburban are highly refined but my 76 Suburban will go places that a new model wouldn't even make it over the 1st obstacle without great carnage. It is all a matter of taste, needs, and perspective.
Okay. The C6 door releases are lame. The C6 Bose stereo is terrible. Other than that, the C6 is a definite step up. I've owned a 2004 Z06/Z16 and a 2009 Z06 and although I miss the C5 (especially the FRC body style), the C6 is a bigger step up than the metrics would suggest.
I will never be a Friend with the C6. First, i dont like the Look of the Car. Okay, from the rear it Look really good. But the Front of the Car ist not pretty. It looks like a standard Car from the Front. And the 2nd reason, maybe i am a Dinosaur, but i dont like Keyless Go, and other Elektronic New stuff. You show in that Video how to open the C6. But how you open the Car when the Car Battery is empty? How you open or Start the Car when the little Battery in your Key is empty? Maybe you are eat a Dinner with your Wife, Car is parked, you came back and realise that your Key Battery is empty. What Do you do now? With a C5 i dont fear empty Batterys.
Yes, you can use your key to turn a cylinder that's backed by the license plate, then you get inside the trunk and pull on a cable which opens the door. No if I could only figure out how to get into my 2008 Tahoe and the battery is dead...
There is a lever inside to open the door and there should be a place for key fob to go so you can start with weak battery in key. Camaro has it so I'm sure Corvette does
@@72blazer48 eh you put HIDS in the c5 it’s about the same, same with the hp. The c5 is actually lighter in every spec too. Stock out the box the ls2/ls3 are nice but my c5 with a full exhaust system would probably take a stock c6
@@72blazer48 C6 jeadloghts are much better than the C5's headlights. But I do love the C5's popup headlights. Tradeoff and rarely do I drive in the dark anymore.
