Today we travel on the NH-3 from Leh to Sarchu a distance of 235 km.
We pass over three mountain passes, Tanglang La 5328 m, Lachung La 5059 m and Nakee La 4738 m above sea level.
We also drive down Gata Loops, which has 22 loops.
The sun is shining, there is little traffic on the road so the motorcycle ride becomes a real pleasure.
In Sarchu we spent the night in tents, towards the morning it got really cold, down to -10C.
Now we follow the original travel plan again. We are on our way back to Delhi after visiting Pangong Lake and Hunder in Nubra Valley.
When we were in Kaza in Spiti Valley we found out that both Kunzum Pass and Baralacha La Pass were closed due to snow so we had to take a detour of 1024 km to reach Leh via the Zoji La Pass.
We will instead drive via Tirthan Valley, Manali, Gopalpur, Pathankot, Patnitop, Srinagar and Kargil. It will be an experience that way too. The roads are often in good condition but sometimes the asphalt is missing and there are no road barriers. In some places the road is hanging on to the almost vertical rock faces but I never experience any vertigo or fear for my life. The Royal Enfield Himalayan felt secure on these roads.
During four weeks we are going on a motorcycle adventure in the Himalayan Mountains in Spiti Valley, Kashmir and Ladakh.
We will cover 4000 km on our Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 cc motorcycles and we´ll be visiting places like Chandigarh, Shimla, Kaza, Dharamshala, Srinagar, Kargil, Leh, Hunder and Pangong Lake.
