Here's a bit of a longer video to try and make up for yesterday's disappointment. Lots to see today! Three starling incidents, much wing flapping, a frankly enormous caterpillar which went down in one and a lot of outside of the nesting cup hanging out type stuff.
Will they be fledging on Saturday or Sunday?
Thanks lots to Hedra42, Rob Brewer and Gray B for posting timestamps in the livestream chat so people can rewind to see interesting things happening. It also makes the edit a little easier - cheers guys!
We're into the home stretch stay tuned.
More tomorrow...

@yoshtg
@yoshtg 2 года назад
isnt it kinda cool to see how the young birds have very yellow beaks to serve as visual indicator to trigger the parents urge to feed the child. and when the bird gets older its beak loses that very noticeable yellow color around its beak. the yellow color is almost like a signal that tells the parents: "Feed Here" and once the bird gets old enough to feed themselves this yellow color is no longer needed. hmm

Considering how people couldn't handle a dead hatchling inside the box idk how well they'd handle seeing them picked off by a predator. Just look at all the attacks they had on the box. These are the most persistent predators I've ever seen. They spend 1-2 days hopping on the ground after fledging. They'll likely be killed in that time.

We started with 8 and over time the nature has taken it’s course and two have made it this far. They’re more than likely the two which hatched first. It’s fairly normal for only two to fledge from a clutch and add to that the unusually cold weather for the last few weeks.
