VN24 - Dortmund / Germany - A truck driver died at the scene on Monday (29.6.) after a traffic accident on the motorway A45 near Dortmund.
According to initial investigations, the 61-year-old was driving his semi-trailer truck in a northbound direction on the A45 motorway at around 2:25 pm when he apparently tried to leave the motorway at the Dortmund-Eichlinghofen junction. For reasons as yet unknown, the truck veered off the road to the right. The tractor-trailer hit the crash barrier, skidded and collided with several trees. The entire semitrailer loaded with full beer crates overturned and finally came to a halt on the roof. The driver was trapped in his cab and died at the scene of the accident.
The highway in the direction of Oberhausen and the Eichlinghofen junction had to be closed until about 18:25 during the rescue, casualty investigation and recovery work. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen junction remained closed for the clean-up work until into the night. A rescue helicopter and a crane were also deployed.
