It could have done with another days sunshine, but the baler is already booked out for tomorrow, and the forecast says rain Sunday night, so we are going for it today. Say Hi to my old school / college chum Barry.

Decided that everybody needs a Barry in their lives, as well as a Dave, a Reg, an Andy, a Tim, a Richard, a Mikey, a Martin, a Ewan and of course and an Uncle Tom Cobley!

5ft Bales are far better if you can lift them. Fewer to shift and cart by quite a considerable amount. Look forward to see you bringing them all home.

Never had my socks smelling as bad as a fox that's been dead for 3 days, but you reminded me of the locker room smell of 10 guys after a 12 hr. shift down a tunnel. Good to see the trailer coming out of rack use, be careful using the cedar planks as table tops, you don't need any wine glass stains on em. Loved the drone shots, especially the cattle in line going for a drink. Thanks Ian. Now get every thing else greased and tyres checked for bale loading and stacking.

Would it be worth PD'ing the 3 that haven't had a calf yet, maybe during the first part of TB? Just to make sure there's nothing wrong? Be one less thing to worry about for you, looking for calves when there might never be any (this time)... And I can't remember, but they were "planned" ones, right? Either way - good luck with them, and with haymaking too, though I expect you'll have most of it done by now, at home anyway. At least the weather's sort of cooperating right now - wish I could send you some of our dry and hot temperatures (where I am in the US, we'll be pushing 40+ degrees C for the next week or so - usually its maybe a day or two, but not this time 🥵🥵🥵). And nice to have your friend helping out - hello Barry!!!

Same goes here in Denmark, as long as you can hire people, nobody can see on the taxpayers cost, it seams like there's no limit to how many you can hire and make sure to place them in extremely overpriced office space in the middle of Copenhagen, and the rest of us can go s.... ourselves. And if we think it's unfair, they are gonna point to the rules where followed.... bla bla bla. Something is rotten when it comes to politics, a complete lack of responsibility sure is one of them.

I find it quite odd that farmers around the world always seem to have machinery breakdowns. You’d think manufacturers would make the stuff better in the first place. Is it just poor quality or am I just cynical.
@FarmerP
@FarmerP 15 дней назад
@@michaelking9254 working the ground is not an easy life for either man nor machine Michael, and some ground is extremely difficult and wearing, regular and good maintenance helps but sooner or later the machine, or the man will wear out.
@michaelking9254
@michaelking9254 14 дней назад
@@FarmerP yes Ian, I appreciate all that. However, I have noticed you guys are very good at maintenance (you spend half your time looking after your machinery) but, nevertheless, there are always breakdowns. Many farmers have a tendency to over strengthen broken parts through welding etc and the repairs work for ever. My contention is that more effort should be made in the first place to produce strong, quality machinery. Just an observation. My family farmed in Kenya in the 1950s and 60s so I know a little about the difficulties. I am always impressed by how resilient and innovative farmers are in all kinds of situations. Keep up the good work mate.
