Had just finished a little 3D doorbell cover for our front gate in FreeCAD... was practicing to re-make this in Blender and was adding a Solidify... it was going weird... came back to this video... and sure enough some errant vertices were hanging around... took them out and BAM! perfect Solidify! Thanks for this video series... I'm still not to the point of actually getting something ready to 3D print, but I've learned more about Blender than I ever knew...

Hello, thank you very much for your fantastic seminar. I've been with Blender for a while. And I've watched a lot of videos and tutorials. And I find it very exciting to go into more and more detail and to see all the possibilities there are also in the context of your addons that you are presenting. If I had known them earlier, many of my designs would probably have been constructed much more quickly. So thank you very much for your effort and also for the way you build these tutorials. I find it very very very very very helpful point and very very very very understandable explained. Greetings John

Can't see the single vertex option in Shift+A menu. The addon is activated. Blender ver. 2.92. I have been following almost every step in this tutorial serial. What's wrong? Solved: need to check Mesh: Extra Objects addon either.

Wonderful lesson kudos. I have an issue with 7:17, my cad transform does not highlight/lock-onto the vertex for 2d objects. If I add a 3d cube it does lock on to the vertex. Why do you think this is. The snapping on cad transform is on vertex and vertex select. Further testing, if there is a face, cad transform will lock on the vertex. Without a face it will not. There must be a setting I missed somewhere.

I'm reminded of looking over the shoulder of a professional graphics guy who used Photoshop all day and who had been learning and discussing Photoshop for years. Some tools are just too sophisticated for people who are not willing to make a serious commitment. I think I could get up to speed with Blender, but if I didn't use it for six months, it's so complicated and unintuitive ("You might think you do it like this but you don't.") that I'd be starting all over again. Maybe I'll give it another try, but right now I'm feeling like a Blender dropout. (Sketchup was more my speed. Too bad they neutered the free version and made the pay version an expensive subscription.)

If there is anyone outhere that is struggling with the merge vertex, keeps selecting both vertecies but nothing happens, that because those vertecies one is in front of the other, try to look more close to the vertecies and put them together and then merge them again, it worked for me

I noticed Jonathan has cad transform 0.91 installed. I had 0.0.9 and it didn't work for me either. Now upgraded to 0.91 and it works. Looks like that is something they fixed in the newer version.
@BenjaminHorvat
@BenjaminHorvat 3 года назад
I also had that issue and have been using 0.91 from the start. Blender restart fixed the issue. But still I can't grab a mesh with CAD transform in edit mode and move it if it is part of the same object as Jonathan is doing. I first have to separate the mesh to be a separate object...then it is working. Did anyone experience this?
@MartinKletzander
@MartinKletzander 3 года назад
@@BenjaminHorvat For me even the restart did not help. I am on Blender 2.93 and it already has some issues (I had to fix a dict key as described by the author here: blenderartists.org/t/cad-like-transform/1226197/320 ) so I expect there might be more issues in 2.93. It works perfectly fine when I try it with 2.92.

I have done some modelling for some other uses and z is usually represented by the height of something in those uses and x and y are the length and width of things, I'm curious if I continue to do things in that fashion how big of a problem will that be for 3d printing? I'm wondering if I should forcibly break my habit of using numpad 1 as my default view rather than numpad 7, cause I do find things to be quite a bit more confusing with num pad 7

I added vertex to 3d cursor and moved away from origin. I tried selecting vertex, g, typed zero but didnt work. How to bring that vertex back to origin. Also, I wanted to ask you a question. You have worked in both Rhino and blender. Lets say a person knows both blender and rhino well. In which software can he make organic models or miniatures with more accuracy with ease? what do you think blender or rhino. Thanks for the content btw, very educational.

I scrolled through the comments a little bit and found that I was not alone in being unable to snap the planes using CAD Transform unless the planes had a face. I have been manually adding faces, snapping them together, toggling x-ray, deleting faces, and then doing it all over. If anyone knows how I can do it like the video does please let me know.

Dude I thought I was the only one! I think blender changed snapping behavior.
@zecuse
@zecuse 7 месяцев назад
This just seems like a limitation of the addon. Yes, there is no face there to try and snap to. It doesn't look like it spends processing time trying to predict and project faces where your cursor is between some set of vertices. One thing I have noticed is you can make a helper for that temporary face that you can later reference without having to recreate it every time.
