I paid $900 for valve stems, water pump, timing belt, front main seal, cam seals back in 2008 by a Toyota master mechanic who’s owned multiple high HP MKIV Supra’s. Obviously it’s way more expensive now. Same mechanic is doing my full engine build next month due to ridiculous amount of white smoke and of having over 200k miles. Going single. Ive had the car since 2006, I’m due! 🤣

200K miles!?!? Super cool! I love it. What do you think the white smoke is? I drive mine all the time as well. I am having a small amount of smoke as you saw in the video but it bugs me so I am going to try to get it taken care of. Going single is going to be a whole new car experience. You will have to tell me what you think after you have driven it for awhile like that. Thanks for watching the video!

@@DriversTherapy Valve stem seals or guides or turbo seals. My turbos have had a low whine noise for years when getting on them. So it could be any of the 3. I don’t wanna throw money at it for a band aid fix when unfortunately I know the engine will eventually need 1 or all 3 fixes. So I’d rather be smart financially with it and do a full rebuild. NOTHING crazy. A built bottom end that could handle 750-800 HP future mods and a semi built head since there known to be stout from the factory already with the addition of a small turbo that’s capable of 750-800 HP. I’ll be running stock fuel and ECU for now. I’ll be right at 450/475 for now.

@@HAULUUZ that makes sense. If your valve stem seals are going bad again that would make me wonder about the durability of the OEM seals VS the GCS ones. Either way, super cool. I did reach out to RealStreet and they were telling me that even with the Powerhouse Street Torque kit with the 6266, I can NOT use the OEM ECU or the stock injectors. I feel like I have been told you can. I was slightly confused by that and hoping that they were not just trying to upsell more parts.

More guides! None of this applies to me, so I probably won't remember it, but thanks for sharing these bits of info. :)

I. Having g blue smoke.when I press accelerator it smokes blue ,at idle.so I guess my stem seals are gone
@DriversTherapy
@DriversTherapy 5 месяцев назад
that is oil. It can be your valve stem seals, piston rings, or turbo seals.
@SlowPaks
@SlowPaks 5 месяцев назад
@DriversTherapy I don't think it's rings.at cold start,blue smoke.at high revs blue smoke,after long drive ,at idle,blue smoke.i thinking its stem seals.its a vvti non turbo.

@@SlowPaks As a Master tech and someone who works on these cars, blue smoke its oil. Valve stem seals go bad on the Supra but look more like white smoke with a hint of blue.

I was considering buying a GE and turning it into an NA-T build with a conversion to full electronic ignition and such to swap into a vintage Mustang. Should I bother to fully rebuild the engine regardless of miles before i get the turbo on (probably will use a single with an aftermarket ECU)?
@DriversTherapy
@DriversTherapy 3 года назад
A GE engine would definitely be less expensive and they are still good engines. Though they are more limited to a certain horsepower gain unless you do some internal work. Powerhouse racing offers a NA-T kit that you might want to investigate. Depending on your budget and mechanical capabilities, I would go GE for a simple 300-400hp build. Anything higher, GTE.
@DAN007thefoxx1
@DAN007thefoxx1 3 года назад
@@DriversTherapy Well I was only gonna go to about 450 at the crank but, you know. Plus I know that the non vvti has thicker piston rods so I would ideally start with that.
@DriversTherapy
@DriversTherapy 3 года назад
@@DAN007thefoxx1 I think a NA-T wouldn’t have a problem with that HP with a proper tune.

@@DriversTherapy Its good to know. Im looking for more power but also reliability. And I didn't think the stock 289 V8 could handle a turbo. And I believe that a Coyote is too expensive and wouldn't fit in the engine bay with the stock shock towers.
@DriversTherapy
@DriversTherapy 3 года назад
@@DAN007thefoxx1 that makes sense. A Coyote engine would be nice. As far as Japanese motors go, the RB25 is a great bargain. 450 HP would not be an issue with that motor with the right supporting modifications.

Where is that vacuum hose restrictor exactly?
@DriversTherapy
@DriversTherapy 2 года назад
By the EGR unit. It is a little white in-line restrictor. On the back of the intake. You cannot see it unless you pull the hoses apart.
