I've watched this a few times now and considering I'll be priming my T2 very soon with 2k HS primer with an FLG5 with the 1.8 tip, I'll probably watch it a few more times :D hopefully it goes as well as yours
Hey Tony, great info mate foe a beginner like me !! Hey you said you increase the thinners on the last 2 coats of primer to make smooth? So is that 1& 2 nd coat 10% , then 3& 4 th 20% thinners is this correct mate ??
If i sprayed 2 coats of high build and can leave the panels for a week would that stop the shrink back...Also, after the paint application would you rub it down or would you wait a week for it to cure before using the DA ??? cheers Tony...Another great vid mate...
+Tosh twentythree (tosh 23) hiya mate , need a few answer to help you out with this one, what tip size and mix ratio are you using with your high build , also what prep have the pannels had ie all prepped to p180 ect, as for the paint qustion are you refering to the high build in that ?
+Tosh twentythree (tosh 23) the longer you can leave the high build mate the better tbh gives it time to shrink down and settle thn before you start with basecoat, once your happy its been left long enough then sand down for basecoat , once the basecoat is applied and your happy with coverage then unless you have loads of dust and dirt in it i wouldnt sand that down at all, if you do need to then nib down and recoat with base before applying the lacquer , hope this helps
+Tosh twentythree (tosh 23) thanks man, and im just trying to share some of what i do and what ive learnt and if it can help guys like yourself then thats awesome
+nikko68 hi the regulator on the wall is just set too around 100psi just too keep a good even pressure in the line , the gun regulator is where i set my pressure as i can adjust it on the move and at any time during the job without having to stop , thats set to roughly around 25psi
@@TonysRefinishingTV thank you. I'd like to invest in an all rounder for painting wheels, bike fairings and car touch ups. Do you think the flg5 is a good choice?
Honestly I’d check out the beginner series and the iwata az3 htes mate it’s better built and a tad better quality , we use that gun in the beginner video series and can be bought from our sponsors spsupplies.co.uk
I got a tailgate I want to paint, I don't have a booth, and no heat, but I do have a polytunnel and a couple of powerful extractor fans and going to construct a temp booth fingers crossed. I will be using 2k primer, and want a good build, how long can I leave or should I leave the primer before I flatten and then apply the base? Can clear be tacked between coats? Loving the vids, still not fully up with the 'lingo', just getting into actually painting stuff. And can I ask WTF is 'Tryzak', 3M paper? From your, 'Smart repair' vid, hate going to the paint shop and sounding like a complete dong! There's tons of info and it all seems there is no one method or application standard, to me anyway, really like the detail you include but would appreciate even more theory, EG, why and when to add more of a product and when not to etc hardener, thinners. Really get lost when talking about different types of thinners, fade-out thinners, fast thinners without the theory, types of filler, where, when and how they should be used, A complete rundown for nubes would be great. :))))) Cheers..
Firstly I would give your primer a good 24 hours before thinking about flatting it mate is your air Drying longer if you can Do not attempt to tack clear between coats as it will stay wet 3m trizact discs are a very fine grade foam disc used to refine the p2000 wet and dry marks into a very easily polishable p3000 finish that has less chance of dying back , ie fading back And thanks for the great comments about the videos and yes I will do my best to break down some more aspects into more detail in future videos to help out for you Thanks for watching
Hi Good man, question if I may, I used a 2k acrylic HS high build up primer following 2k etch primer on bare alloys. 1.8 full fan, ¾ opened fluid flow. In 4 alloys sized 9"x19 I used about 1lt primer (4:1 hardener) with 10% thinner. Single heavy coat with 70% overlap. When I sanded with 800 w/d in some areas I was quickly finger the bare metal. I thought I was pretty consistent in my coating, clearly not. Is the amount of primer I used not enough for a deep coverage? Did I sand them too much? More importantly, I'm assuming I need to spray another coat to cover the areas where it shows etch primer and metal? Thank you good man for all your work.
Hi buddy I’d always recommend you use two to three coats if you want build from the primer for rubbing things right down and yes if you run through you will need to spot prime or wet on wet those areas
@@TonysRefinishingTV despite being a total novice I even know what wet on wet is... lol don't know how to do it correctly but that's another issue. lol. Yes, I did touch it up with 1k primer (ENCASA?) on the 2k I had. I hope it wont be a problem u8sing a spot of 1k on 2k primer... I"ll try tomorrow the gun IWATA that you suggested for BC, really looking forward to it. How can I support you man? this is the second query your reply to.Patreon?
@@fattoamanowoodwork3638 il be making a video on the different types of primer soon what each one is used for any why also mate, and we have the join button on under the channel where you can join and become a member if you wish mate to support us
Thanks for the reply back bro I'm probably going to get a flg5 And a gti pro lite, I want to get the same setup you had when you did the yellow Corvette, i really enjoy your video's keep them coming man
personally you can do it either way but i like to prime the bare metal before applying sealer as a way to seal the metal off before sealing the joint if that makes sense
Hi mate I'm about to spray my MGb with the same gun as this. I've got the 1.4 nozzle rather than the 1.8 as I can't afford two guns for the job. I have to use it for primer, ground coat, colour coat and clear so what percentage of thinners would you recommend for standard primer and that nozzle? cheers loads and great video - Will
+MechanicalArcher427 hi mate are you running high build primer through it ? If so I'd use about 20% thinner otherwise you may struggle to get it through the 1.4 and lay down nice
yeah I'm using Hs Pro Build high build primer... The tin is marked with 40-60% thinners, this can't be a guideline right? I'd expect 20% is more like it
+MechanicalArcher427 personally I'd go 20% but the best thing to do if it's marked that high is do a test spray at 20 first and see how it sprays for you
