Plumbers during the Black Plague were the most immune. The plumbers were so immune they would hire them to pick up the dead people from the plague. That would make some interesting youtubes !
Steve, that's brilliant using that rubber coupling on the trap. Beats cutting all that shit out for sure. I think that old drain top was already cracked and you found it with your universal channel lock tool. Another job well done!
@@WeatherNut27 a steel oil pan? heh .. know what it is though.. he cracked a lot of that stuff 30 years ago and now he has the touch. plastic stuff or bolts on ceramic is always questionable for me
I'm just a DIY homeowner with enough experience to cause problems. I'm watching this video because I have the same issue. I've seen videos where they suggest using silicone rather than putty because it remains flexible and won't turn to crumbly shit like putty does over time. I'd like to know your thoughts Steve. I've been watching your videos for such a long time. You're saving a lot of us a lot of frustration with your knowledge and experience, and I laugh my ass off with every video. Thank you!
Nothing that a clean gasket and fresh ring of plumber's putty can't fix - unless that drain itself cracks 🤬. Had to do something similar in my bathtub - fortunately the drain didn't crack. Gasket was still good, but the drain trim ring itself was rusted. So I got a new drain trim ring, cleaned the old putty, installed the ring with some fresh plumbers putty, and the bathtub was back in business. No runs, no leaks, no errors...🙂
Hi Steve, maybe you can replace the neoprene gasket between the underside of the shower pan, and recaulk the upper shower flange with plumbers putty, great video!!
I drive 60 mile round trip to work each day. Going to work is real early and I have people pass me like I'm sitting still then I wave to them at the next light. Coming home I have half dozen fed ex, UPS or prime delivery drivers blocking areas that are 55 mph speed limit. 2 years ago I slowed down because of prime driver in road and on coming traffic. Hillbilly in jacked up dodge truck sped around me and clipped the guy in opposite direction. He rolled his truck about 5 times and didn't get a scratch. I had to wait around almost an hour to clear road and give police statement. 13 month till retirement baby! Thanks for video Steven.
I had sleep apnea back in the day when I was driving truck. I had to wear the CPAP at night to sleep and I just could not get used to it. I had surgery on my throat and that fixed the problem.
With the ceiling open you can squirt some great stuff between the subfloor and the pan to support it. Leave some weight on the pan until the foam sets.
Great job Steve, I would like to recommend a multi tool or spiral cut tool to cut out drywall or wood that was in your way, they make cheap cordless ones at Harbor Freight or more expensive ones at Home Depot or Lowe's. Good job.
True, but if your careful and take the necessary time to do a good job, it will work, yes, the spiral cut does create a lot of dust, but I don't think Steve will buy one, he's still old school.
BEST NOT TO USE ANY POWER TOOL TO OPEN UP CEILING ..BECAUSE WITH A HAND TOOL YOU CAN FEEL WIRES AND PIPE WITHOUT DOING DAMAGE TO THEM ..I WOULD NEVER USE A POWER TOOL TO OPEN UP A CEILING .CUT INTO A WIRE AND YOUR SCREWED
I know, but I use it or those tools where I know it's safe, I have enough experience with electricity to know when it's safe, I work on a lot of old construction projects where it is hard plaster, and using a drywall saw doesn't work. I know what you mean by feeling the wall or ceiling, but it was just an opinion, not a demand.
Nothing worse than a customer who thinks the world evolves around them. They expect us to work around their schedule. I like Steve’s response: "i work during the day, how about you?" 😂😂😂 Don’t give in, if you do it once, they expect it every time.
Those PVC shower drains are terrible. I use the Brass strainer with compression gasket that seals around the PVC pipe. Those allow for movement of shower floor. To change the strainer and replace with brass one, the trap needs to be cut out and replaced because the riser needs to be longer. The putty interferes with the threads of the plastic strainer and difficult to tighten it.
Your better off using a brass shower floor drain, there very durable and you can tighten the crap out of them .The plastic ones contract too much with the hot water draining over them causing the putty to wash away. Then they end up cracking when you tighten them a tad too much.
Many of those drain leaks start when the original plumber is too lazy to put cement mortar under the unit. The mortar prevents the flexing that eventually causes leaks.
You have to follow the manufacturers installation instructions regarding their shower base installs, some company's require base supporting materials such as cement. You can also use drywall joint compound . You'll find most do not recommend any base flooring support at all.
Steve, you are so RIGHT about FEDEX drivers! UPS drivers are just as bad. They even block handicapped spaces and walk away. I love your practical, everyman observations! You tell it like it IS! PS. All of the nurses at a hospital that I used to work for were 200 lbs. plus. I often wondered why. But don`t give up on the rich girl fantasy, Steve. A lot of DOCTORS are women. My doc is one and she is very attractive!
Rats!, well, at least you can get to the drain and then install the new drain assembly!!, those pvc shower drain parts are sometimes brittle!!, good job !!
I was surprised to see that but Im not a Pro. Wonder if it prevents the other gasket underneath from tightening because the putty adds a layer on top? Then again, kitchen sinks never leak with putty
In my opinion, Fed EX and Amazon delivery drivers are the worse. They always seem to park on the highway/roadways because they don't want to back in or out of driveways. It also seems to me that Fed Ex trucks are all the size of moving vans. It seems ridiculous if I getting a pack of cough drops delivered to my house, Fed Ex will bring it in a 30-ft van!
come on people hit that like button!!!! Only flippen guy i know who talks to customers like there his kids lmao and they still call him back... FUCK BITCH I GOTTA CHANGE IT LMAO
