In this video I show how to replace the lower ball joint on my 2001 Lexus GS430. In the process you see how roll center adjusters get installed; as well as torque specs and trouble shooting if the sound is actually coming from the lower ball joint. This repair is the same across all second gen Lexus GS. 1998-2005 Lexus GS300, GS400, and GS430.
Thanks for watching!

Why are you using RCAs? It doesn't look like you did the LS 400 BBK swap necessitating these, so what was the purpose?

They provide a 1 inch or so drop. This is why I am here...I bought Megan 30mm. Wanted to know how long it takes to install...So will do with LBJ swap along with RCA install.

RCAs help correct suspension geometry when lowered, apparently they help take some stress off of the lbj. I also plan on doing the LS400 BBK sometime in the future.

The RCA is used to raise the arms back to a factory geometry which is CRUCIAL to the 2nd gen GS30O based on the multilink system...Since I'm here people also forget to get adjustable sway bar end links. In other words, if you want to play with the 2nd gen gs300 suspension it will cost 💰

@@804MRMAN What if you don't want to lower the front of the car, or at all? Which then means you gotta lower the rear so it doesn't have a stupid looking rake. I'm only interested in the LS 400 BBK, which requires the RCA's for clearancing the larger caliper away from the tire rod end.

@themanicmechanic7365 Go for it! All I'm telling you from experience is, just make sure that geometry is as close to factory as possible. I'm lowered about 1.6inches in the front and 1.8 in the back. It's all about the millimeters my guy. Just have a good alignment shop and you'll be fine. Remember those RCA's usually come in like 20mm and 30mm increments.

So is clicking still there?

unfortunately yes but only because of a faulty lbj. gotta do the job again but it’s not too hard.

@@theflipflopfabshop So they keep failing? Do you have coilovers?
@theflipflopfabshop
@theflipflopfabshop Год назад
@@804MRMAN yes, coilovers, adjustable upper control arms, rcas, adjustable rear lower control arms and toe arms. may need shortened spindles now to correct suspension geometry.

@theflipflopfabshop OK. Yeah, I have all of that stuff, collecting dust lol. I put all of that on my car, and my car drove terrible! Kept my coils, adj caster, rcas, rear adjustable arms, rear adj toe arms, fr/r sway links on the car, though.

I changed my ball joints twice in one year on my gs 430, both time with moog. I’ve decided to go with oem Lexus ball joint or triple five ball joints this time around.
