As a motorcycle mechanic I've replaced alot of doohickeys! But never a broken one. My 2007 klr has been all over the USA and still has the stock doohickey.. 🤷♂️
I have a 2017, 19,000 miles and the doo was fine, but the real reason the doo is an issue is the left gear rubber was worn down and the doo had no more adjustability left … changing the gear would have brought back adjustability on the original doo, but I installed the EM system while I was there …
I'm not crazy about the computer controlled fuel injection and O2 sensor now in place on the 3rd gens. Honestly I feel carburetors are getting unfairly prosecuted by greenies. Are we really gaining anything with all of the computer controls that in and of themselves produce pollution also?
I was all in on the 3rd gen , until I realized it would be just over 8k out the door. then I found a 2nd gen with 4k miles for $4000 on FB.. Half the price! There just wasnt enough new stuff in the 3rd gen to sell me on it... I'm loving mine and haven't regretted it :)
Same here really liked the gen 2 and a lot of them available. But I found a (almost new 70 miles on it) 22 on fb for 5300 cash so I went with it. Still like the gen 2!
Totally. I just bought an 8k miles 2013 model for $3k even. An additional $4k for the new version made no sense to me. I also wanted a carb bike and no abs. But that’s just me.
I’ve got a Gen 3, the looks are great and the road comfort is 100% better than the Gen 1. But The Gen 3 is nowhere near as rugged- fit and finish of plastics etc is poor. Do the Gen 2 and Gen 3 feel the same to ride?
About the only thing I would add is the fuel injected bikes need a fuel pump that can fail and they are usually inside the tank so not an easy fix on the trail.
I just bought a second gen and I love it. Of course it’s new to me and I’m new to bikes, sort of. 30 years ago I had a Honda Nighthawk 750. I can’t wait to get setup for camping!
For me, getting a third gen doesn't make sense after all the mods i have invested into my second gen. If i got a new KLR i would need to start over getting it the way i like it.
For below $8,000 i enjoy my 22 klr 650 adventure non abs. I commute 86 miles a day to work. Fit all my work gear in the factory bags. Get 50+ mpg and just enjoy the ride. Those factory fog lights are REALLY bright. Its not fast, its not super torquey but the tall 5th gear does just fine at 65-70mph. I didnt get in to this for speed. Which im in luck cuz the klr doesnt have it haha. Still wanna go 200,000 miles in it. I think itll do it
@@ryanb5189 klr 650 adventure non abs 7800 with the USB. $700 setup, $900 freight, the rest is tax and doc fees. $10,200 OTD. Cash. Cycle center, Denton, TX
I would probably go with a cheaper 2nd gen and see if it's the right bike for me spend as little on getting the bike and make sure you get the proper gear and see if you like it and then later on you could always upgrade
Yep - get gen 2s a lot more bang for the buck if ya wanna do the maintenance PLUS no FFI system to break down (fuel pump) and a good running mouth breathing carb you can fix yourself if ever needed. Oh....and then there's the overtightened steering stem bearings.
