Thanks for your video. Afaik you're the first 'ordinary' user to post a video of a tool changing XL in the wild. Btw, your 'rant' was spot on. Such a shame, this kind of tribal infighting helps no one.
Missed your video the first time thru, there are so few on the dual extruder model. I would like to see how you use desolvable supports, and the results. I too am hopeful options for 3 or 4 tool heads will become available.
Thanks for the XL content. Planning on 2 multimateriel XLs for a setup at work, to do soluble supports. Please post soluble support examples when you have time!
Well said at the end of the video! I have my reasons to ordering this printer Vs. a new startup company with poor support. My order is in and waiting my time to get it to the door, thinking I do the 2 head as well for the option of putting different nozzle size / different types of filament types. I for one love to see what this printer is doing as 2k is a bit for a printer but understand if that not in the cards. Been binge watching your videos as the content interest me
Thanks for watching! I mainly just let people know what I am making or prototyping for my shop to sell so its just a different kind of content. I am really bad at it too..lol
Bambu is the hot new thing that everyone hypes up, and they are probably great machines. Let them go and buy it and enjoy it like you said! Bambu doesnt have anything to compete with the XL so one day when they improve and reach there, then the community as a whole continues to improve too! Competition is nice and ultimately gives Disappointed to hear there wont be a ton of XL content coming, but if i could be so bold to request, even if its not a "cutesy" design that comes up and since you mentioned water soluble supports, no matter the model I would love to see a future video using those as a support interface!
Thanks for sharing the videos! Prusa has mentioned that 3 or more tool heads will require the purchase of an additional board for the controller, and additional power supply. So the cost to go from 2 to 3 heads will be more than 3 to 4 heads
I personally have been a fan of Prusa for a very long time and was excited to finally get a Prusa but when the Bambulab X1C came out and the reviews were amazing, I decided to take a chance and I wasn’t disappointed. However, I do still hope to get a Prusa XL one day. But I’m going to wait till the 5 tools have been out for a while, all the kinks have been worked out, and input shaping it out in full. I also am waiting for people to come out with fully enclosed designs as I wish to do high performance materials.
I noticed the nozzle lights too. My 1-head XL doesn't seem to have this which is sad. There's no setting to turn it on/off so it must be part of something that's different between the modular heads and the single setup.
I feel its less about dedication and more about just I like what the company stands for. Everything is mostly open and the other company is all bottled up. If there were to be another company to come out were the machine just blows me away then I will hop on board but it has to be more then the machine. It will need to be the eco system, the slicer, the customer service and all needing to be ran offline with full machine capabilities unlike Bambu. I dont want to have to depend on a cloud for anything or have to login to any software to be able to use it because if that company becomes defunct then your hardware gets crippled.
Thanks for the video. Why do you think the White PLA didn't print so well? The layers seem inconsistent. I've use ESUN before and had no issues. Is it the printer?
I think its more the model than the printer. The area its most apparent is the thin walled sections of the potted area. I would need to print one of my personal models to test in white and I mostly relegate my Mini Machines to do white.
@@pixisdesigns761 As someone possibly interested in an XL I am curious to see a proper print. Why would you limit this machine to other colours and do white on a smaller machine?
@TheLEDwheel because the actual items I need to do in white are great for my Minis? I need to use all my machines at my disposal, not trying to take away from stuff I already use and have paid for...or paid for themselves.
I just got the email saying my 2 head XL is ready, so decided to check out reviews. So thank you for posting the video As for the toxic comments.....pretty much every community I have any interest in is full of them these days....fan boys (of any flavour) are a curse on modern society. I love Prusa, I have a mk3, a mini and a mk4.....but that doesn't mean i don't appreciate or welcome the competition. Far from it.....competition drives our hobby on to bigger and better printers.
I asked about the 3 head and 5 head versions at the Prusa User Group meetup. The 3rd head feeds from the same side as the first two with the 4th and 5th being on the other side. Upgrading to more than two heads will not be as simple at plugging in the new heads. The additional heads will require a 2nd power supply, runout sensors, etc.
Yeah, just looking at the back of the machine, I see where the power supply will connect into but its not so easy to see where the new connections will go. Very interested to see the instructions when they are released as I will jump on that 3rd extruder.
Thanks for the video! It's a shame the 3D community can get so toxic sometimes. I'm just watching XL videos to fill out the wait until my order comes haha. I ordered an XL because I want multiple toolheads. Watching loads of videos it does seem it can be used with no purge block and minimum waste which is great!
No purge block needed. No poop shoot, no material left behind the machine. The extruder swipe does a perfect job of keeping the tip pressurized without the need for a waste bucket.
Looks awesome, except for where the support failed. Would be interested in seeing how it deals with soluble supports, regardless of how "boring" the model may be....
What if the model where printed with different filament. As I understand it, pla/petg will not form a strong bond, and it should allow a model only supported from below to separate cleanly. Solvable support would be needed for something “hanging free” over non-support material. Any chance you could try something small multimaterial supported?
Nice video. Be really interested in using a multi extruder to mix different materials like asa and asa-cf for engineering. Can start putting different material properties where its needed. Have you tried a rigid plastic and TPU together? I think prusaslicer maybe cura has a clever slicer that mechanically locks them in place
I print 100% pla and pla+. I only recently got into TPU and I pretty much dedicate one of my MK3S machines for the TPU printing as I keep a print bed all soiled up with glue for that machine. I do have a larger item that I need to model up that may require TPU and the XL but I wont know that for a while. 8p
Great Video I like It..... Now With the New Printer would it allow You the Ability to Recreate a 1983 Gi Joe Headquarters play Set with some modifications to bring it up to date to a modern era for the 3 Inch Joes..???
@@pixisdesigns761 Ahhhh Man Pixis Brooo!!! LOL ha ha You would not believe I just saw Your reply and I just like 10 mins ago just Purchased an Old Vintage one off of Evil Bay...OMG this is wayyy to Funny... Ha Ha Ha...I will however Now need to Purchase 2 of Your Gray Magatron Flak Guns for the 3inch Joes are they still avalible cuz Ill need 2 to sit on each side of the HQ to balance it out..?? Let Me know if You can ??
I would think if you can buy just 1 extruder you could do a 3 head setup. I mean even if the printer thinks it's a 5 setup just don't use the other extruders. But yeah supports would be a godsend on this machine. I've tried doing PLA/PETG on my MK3S+ with the MMU and it was a pain in the ass. The purge block was massively struggling to get by because of the mixed materials. I've actually seen that PLA/PETG prints make great supports as they peel off perfectly. That's not what I was doing. I was printing the MK4 LCD panel but I only had a small selection of PETG and I didn't want to buy a spool just that. So I printed the color parts in PLA. Surprisingly it worked great. I was expecting it to fail. I didn't notice the light on the extruder before. I wonder if the MK4 (kit was ordered on day on not shipped yet) has that.
Prusa states that adding print heads beyond the two requires a third power supply be added (it installs between the initial two on the back) and a daughter board installed on the existing controller board. The daughter board provides the additional hookups for the extruder cables.
Prusa will probably release individual add on extruders for this after they fulfill the single/double/five orders first, which will probably take awhile. The major plus with this XL is no waste material from purging 👍. If this were a Bambu lab printers there'd be a ton of waste material in the purge tower and chute. Do you plan to do any ABS prints? I think Prusa said they plan an enclosure for the XL, else we could probably make our own enclosure.
