Yeah, they were literally introduced as an "unattractive" girl group.. by YG himself so of course knetz called them ugly too it was quite horrible. 2ne1 sre still THAT gg, they were all stunning talented and iconic from the beginning

They were also called that by Boss SM and JYP Daddy. During that the time period, Papa YG considered talent more important than beauty. Both, Boss SM and JYP Daddy ridiculed Papa YG for accepting "ugly" trainees and it got to the point where Papa YG started believing that he set low standards making the Big Three look less prestigious, so he implemented the same beauty standards that were at JYP Entertainment.

Well - a few of CL's tracks when she was in limbo (like the track that will.i.am.) did aren't that great. She was floundering there for a few years after 2Ne1 went on hiatus. This was when she was doing things like doing the song for the My Little Pony movie, Doctor Pepper (with Diplo), appear in the Mile 22 movie. I don't know who was advising her (it might have been Scooter Braun) but they did CL no good.

I enjoyed the immediate synchronised head bop at the start 🤣 I feel like 2nd gen were usually more wild in terms of styling but 2NE1 were ESPECIALLY so! Hahaha the giveaway is that the black eyeliner is WAY too heavy to be as late as 2014 🦎 (not a frog)

Modern K-POP can be categorized into generations. Baby V.O.X. was the 1st gen group that pioneered the girl crush concept. They were under DR Music. YG Entertainment has had four girl groups, but only three of them were created under YGE. 2003-2006 (1st gen) Big Mama. They signed with YGE and were in the R&B, soul, gospel categories. 2006-2016 (2nd gen) 2NE1. They were girl crush and a contender for being the Queens of 2nd gen K-POP, but still considered a legendary girl group. They were one of the three YGE acts (the other two were BigBang and Psy) that were the first K-POP acts to be able to break into the American music market. 2016-current (3rd gen) Blackpink. They are the iconic legendary Queens of K-POP. 2023-current (5th gen) Babymonster. The new kids. A common denominator between 2NE1 and Blackpink is Teddy. Teddy was in the YG boy group 1TYM (1st gen) and helped establish the iconic YG signature sound and style. He then went on to be a producer at YGE. Teddy was the main producer & creative director for 2NE1 and is the main producer & creative director for Blackpink. Teddy will have nothing to do with Babymonster, because he is making his own 5th gen girl group that will debut sometime in Q3-Q4 2024. In 2022, Teddy went from being a producer at YGE to being a producer for YGE. His company, TheBlackLabel, also went from being a subsidiary company of YGE to an associate company at YGE. It has been said that the 1st gen YG groups (1TYM & Epik High) laid the foundation of YG and the 2nd gen YG groups (BigBang & 2NE1) built the house of YG and the 3rd gen YG group (Blackpink) kept the house of YG from collapsing into ruin.

As with any YG group, the best ones to watch are the live or concert performances! 🔥 My personal favorites are 2015 MAMA, Crush live performance on 2NE1's channel, and If I Were You on Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook for the amazing vocals. 🙌🏼

While YG destroyed and disbanded 2NE1 the members all have solo careers and keep in touch. A good introduction is the MAMA 2015 performance by CL and 2NE1. While it does include 'I am the Best" the performance has a different feel and highlights their stage presence. Other good performances are: "I Don't Care" rock version; " I Love You" mv; "Lonely" live acoustic: "Clap Your Hands" mv; "Crush" live, "Missing You" mv. and "Fire" street version their debut.

2ne1 is definitely one of the most legendary girl groups of the second gen back in that day it was them and Girls Generation dominated the girl group scene. And you know what's messed up YG Entertainment founder used to make fun of them all the time and did them wrong CL the leader didn't know the group was expanding until she saw it on the news so he made the group disband without their say in it. The group disbanded in 2017 but they have performed together a couple of times like at Coachella but we're glad they got away from that label

This song was start of the YG domination. From 2011 to 2016 YG just made history. This song made 2NE1 the unquestioned top female group in Asia. Then BigBang's Alive album came out and shook the global music world. Then Psy blew open the doors to the west to kpop. Then Epik High rocked the indie word at Coachella. Then BigBang became the biggest group in the world and went on the first true world tour in kpop and BlackPink debuted and went viral all over the world. But by 2017 Epik High was gone, 2NE1 was gone, Psy was gone and BigBang was in the military and soon to be gone. Leaving BlackPink as the only one in YG left standing and it looks like they're on their way out so YG better hope Treasure gets popular real fast.

Well Blackpink was molded to become a new version of 2NE1.. so you would hear and see bits and pieces of similarities. I AM THE BEST was released in 2011 and became the SONG OF THE YEAR in Kpop. 2NE1 (21 or twenywan / to anyone) debuted in 2009 and forcibly disbanded in Nov 2016. BLACKJACKS is the official fandom name. Their music style is predominantly EDM/Dance music but is based on Hiphop (YG standard). Their lyrics theme is predominantly about female empowerment and breaking free of stereotypes hence the girl crush concept was born.

You also need to do Akmu and artists that didnt train in YG but been a major part in the company like Epik High and Psy . If you dont mind a big throwback I say you watch the MV for Hip Hop Gentleman. You will get the feel of the YG first gen , I think Teddy is in it , BigBang leader is in it , as a 13 year old 😊. 2ne1 has amazing music . Sandara just released a song with a Blak Eyes Peas member . With all YG groups what you have to see is their live performances. I highly recommend you watch CL and 2ne1 performance at MAMA 2015 . Epik High with BI , Bobby and Mino performance of Born Hater at MAMA 2014 . YG rappers Masta WU , Dok 2 and Bobby with Come here at MAMA 2014 . Watch on the artists chanels or on fan chanels not on the MNet chanel and you will not have problems with copy right . Dorian Gray chanel has the best BigBang lives with subtitles. Watch BigBang performance at MAMA 2014, 2013 and 2015 . YG always been the cool kids and on stage you see what made YG one of the big 3 .

2NE1 has a number of different styles: Club, Pop, Reggae, Ballads, Rap, Rock, Sad, Happy and more. In some of my favorites they just sit in chairs and sing while holding your attention. There live performances are filled with energy and their emotions. Awesome stage presence. While Blackpink is a very good group. in my opinion they are a pale copy of 2NE1.

2NE1 weren’t the first K-pop girl group to do ‘girl crush’. Baby VOX was really the first. But 2NE1 took it to a whole new level. The same way Blackpink did when they debuted. Babymonster has more than enough talent to level it up even higher. Only time will tell.

It really isn’t a fair assessment to call what Baby VOX did “girl crush”. They were conceptually very different than anything 2NE1 did because the 90’s were completely different. They went against the grain of South Korea and followed a lot of what was happening in America, but not as extreme as girl crush which 2NE1 lived not only as a music concept, but in press, media, and touring.

I've been there with the girls since 2009, and it wasn't only after Blackpink's popularity that they had to coin a term, i.e Girl Crush, for such concept. Nobody in that period called what 2ne1 was doing as "girl crush" and calling them as such now is lazy, reductive and insulting.

@@brutishbison Well, I have been into K-pop since 1995. I was living in Korea back then, and married a Korean as well. And guess what? It wasn’t called K-pop back then. So I guess we are all being lazy by calling it K-pop retroactively. Right? It was called girl crush even back in the 90’s but the term hadn’t been used in the west yet, because practically nobody in the west knew what the hell K-pop was.

As far i remember BABY V.O.X didn't go properly into the "girl crush hole" cuz that album with that concept didn't go well they were dragged by knets and almost got disbanded (I'm not Korean or anything but their fans say so) so their labels brought BABY VOX into the "cute concept" instead... YG debuting 2NE1 with that "girl power concept" (you're right we didn't call it "crush".. Second generation fans used to call 2NE1 concept "girl power" but after 2NE1 I LOVE YOU era people start calling them "crush concept" that's why 2NE1 song and album CRUSH born from😊) was very risky, luckily the girls embraced and portrayed really well and people felt it and accepted them😌♠️
