If you've been following my content for a while you may remember that I already made her a bookcase a year or two ago. Unfortunately that bookcase was overflowing the day I completed it. My wife has always had a lot more books than we've had space for. So this time my game plan was to make two very tall bookcases from 2x10 boards that would hopefully provide enough book storage space for the next year or so. I was wrong again. She filled both of them up the day we put them in the room. “Bookcases” refuses to get scratched off the To-Do list.

I love Briwax! If I'm using it on pine I also like to give the wood an acid bath (bowl cleaner mixed with water, let dry) before I apply the wax. If gives it a really old, mellow look. Try it sometime!

With as tall as those are, they really need to be strapped to a wall stud at the top to make sure they don't fall over. I'm not talking gust of wind, more daft kids or visitors.

The book cases look great great and should last for years. As an avid reader in a family of readers, I fully agree with your wife for both pleasure reading and serious academic / profesional study. I have six large book cases jammed fully and another six packing boxes full of books. That said, I also have a full terrabyte (1,000GB) of digital books as well (about 50 / 50 pleasure vs. profesional / reference). I actually have them backed up on and likned to my private personal cloud server. Yes i have read all those books and still go back to them. Granted they represent over 30 years of daily reading as an adult.
