a guy at my school gets the over hook from the guard and cranks the shit out of it. he wins ibjjf tournaments with it because nobody sees it coming. Thanks for the video. this should help me out.
Not at all. Because to setup for the omoplata they would have to c grip your wrist and pin it to the hip, which is actually much more common when people are trying to defend from a triangle setup. It requires control of the wrist on that side, and they can't control it because of the overhook they have on you. so if they let go of the overhook to try to secure the c-grip for omoplata setup, then you still win because you broke the grip you were trying to break in the first place and you can posture up and leave them with nothing.
I've been playing with this over hook latelty. I like to come out to the side a bit though and bring my top leg right up to the back of the neck to help hold him down. Wondering if this would restrict these escapes or not?
i agree people who go to tournaments with the intentions of hurting someone should never be allowed to be in tournaments. tournaments are suppose to be competitive friendly competitions and not to see who can inflict the most damage to someone like some barbaric cave man.
You're right. The key to showing and training overhook escapes is a groaning partner with huge arms. I'll never understand why Stephan chose Ritchie over Brock Lesnar.
