My kids and I were feeding fish, a snapping turtle ran out of the pond focused toward us, we moved away, the turtle snapped at a can of food on the shore and retreated back to the pond? Why did he do that, we were good to him, feeding the fish, why did he run out and attack us?
@FunnyandCuteArt, it sounds like you had quite an unexpected encounter with a snapping turtle! These turtles are known for their quick reactions and sometimes aggressive behavior, especially when they're in an environment where food is involved. Even though your intentions were kind and you were feeding the fish, the snapping turtle likely saw an opportunity to investigate a potential food source due to the presence of the can. Snapping turtles can be quite bold and aren't necessarily known for distinguishing between humans providing food and the food itself. Their natural instinct is to go after what they think could be edible, which in this case, was the can near you and your kids. This behavior isn't a sign of ungratefulness or hostility; rather, it's just a part of their survival instincts kicking in. In future interactions with wildlife, especially around feeding times, it's always good to keep a safe distance to avoid any misunderstandings or potential threats, as animals can behave unpredictably. Your safety and the natural behaviors of the wildlife should always be considered.
