Andy Tidy continues to track down the lost sections of the Ogley Locks flight on the Wyrley and Essington Canal near Lichfield. In this episode the lost line of the canal converges with the sections currently being restored, and the explore heads towards a conclusion on the Coventry Canal at Huddlesford.

I started watching different videos on canal restorations.. I find it quite interesting.. I live in Missouri USA and I watch Cruising the Cut a vlog where he cruises the canal systems. I noticed some canals have WWII Pillboxes that's pretty cool .. looking forward to your next vlog .Cheers..

It probably wouldn’t help you to know that in lots of neighborhoods in Florida the mow and blow noises are almost continuous. Allll day long with a break on Sundays. I’ve just found your videos and intend to watch all of them. Really relaxing and informative.

I enjoyed the video thanks. I expected however you would offer some credit to the amazing volunteers, etc. who've put the dedication and hard work in (not to mention the vision and planning, etc.) to get the restoration to this point. Well done to them - and this comment is coming from the other side of the world. I'm fascinated by all this.

I am glad you are enjoying the series Mike. I fully applaud the efforts of the whole team undertaking this restoration, indeed I am a life member of the trust. But to be fair, the aim of this series was to seek out the old historic route rather than focus on its future. I had planned to spend maybe three episodes on the Ogley Locks section and in the end it ran to six, plus a pause at the pumping station and an archive photostream of the whole length. One has to stop somewhere!

In so many places, the 'new' canal looks so narrow. Is that really the case or just the way it appears on film?
@lifeat2.3milesanhour57
@lifeat2.3milesanhour57 3 года назад
The canal was never very wide but encroaching buildings have since reduced some sections even more - and these have become notorious "pinch points" which have called for some creative solutions by the restorers.

Thanks Andy, great to see you back and finishing the series. A while back I left a message that you responded to where I was talking about the old route of the canal that went straight on at what is now the turn to go around and under the A38. I did wonder where it went on the other side, where I think it is now a timber yard and past where Lichfield Friary Tennis Club and Lichfield Rugby club are situated. Did it stick near to where there is a brook running through a farmer's field or did it go nearer to the lane running alongside the rugby club, I'd love to know. Hopefully I'll find out in the next episode. One thing I think you should have done is also show where the route of the new canal is from the Fosseway Wetlands area that is being created up and along Falkland Road to Birmingham Road, but I guess you only have so much time and you have to keep your videos to a certain length. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next one!!!

@@lifeat2.3milesanhour57 I thought that just be the case. I was actually surprised you got this much in as it was, I guess you probably want to get this part finished, so you can move on to other things, so I'll forgive you this time!!! Or are you planning on doing the canal from Huddleston's Junction to Fazeley, past Whittington, although that's a functioning canal so I'd guess not? Anyway I always find these videos interesting so I just look forward to the next one!!!

@@mattpotter8725 I will be stopping at Huddlesford but am debating the next season. The plan was to continue to the west of the Netherton ridge but with lock down limiting movement I am thinking of series 4 following the coal trade south from Hednesford to the top of the Camp Hill Locks. This will introduce lots of the obscure sections of the still navigable sections of the BCN and associated waterways.
