One of the best videos on agates I’ve seen, and a few of the comments are equally informative. I live in Minneapolis and mostly hunt around town... nothing bigger than 3 oz., but found my first agates in rhyolite yesterday, and now understand that I keep reaching for rhyolite when looking without benefit of the sun to assist me.

What a day at the beach! Good eye, Angel! The rocks @11:33 and @11:42 look to be incomplete agates in Matrix and are classified by some as "Agate Geodes". How lucky for you to find them so exposed and still in Matrix! @12:14 looks like it might be a "Fragmented Agate". These are created when the agate is only partially formed(basically an agate geode at this point) and the vesicle(gas bubble) is cracked or broken and then filled and finished over time, with either quartz or agate/chalcedony. @12:52 looks like it may be a beach tumbled "Peeler Agate". Did you keep it, and if you did, have you cut it open yet? It may have a beautiful surprise inside if it is a "peeler". Great video, awesome finds! Thank You for sharing this adventure... and, as always, Good Luck, Have Fun, and Keep on Houndin'. Steve...

Thanks for the info! We're still such amateurs! Sounds like you have a lot of knowledge when it comes to rocks. Love the comments! We kept most of them but none have been cut open yet.

Yes it was! It’s tourist season hard and heavy now. The beaches are filling up. We have a few trips planned for the boundary waters coming up for a change of pace. Once school starts back up I’m sure we’ll be back out.

That’s funny. I never heard of it either until a Montana person from the mountains said the same thing a couple years ago. Then it stuck.
