Wife's car has been over heating. Service engine light on. Saw this video before going to buy a thermostat and waterpump. Did this took about 15 min of idle before and liquid came out and finally did solid stream. Wife's car is no longer over heating. And engine light went off.. Thanks for this video saved me a massive amount of time and money. Now instead of turning wrenches on my vacation off work. I can drink beer. This beer is for you good sir.
Awesome... if it doesn't work for others ... I would say it's a problem with your ECM or PCM... I had the same problem and it was because the fans are not kicking on due to the temperature coolant sensor not activating the fans... The coolant temperature sensor is supposed to activate the fans to keep the coolant circulated at about 190. Turn on the air conditioner and the fans will come on because the air conditioner system requires the fans to work in order for the AC to properly work. As long as you have your heat or air conditioner turned on the fans will come on but they will not come on by the temperature coolant sensor relaying it the information. People just tie the fans and directly to a toggle switch on the dash and run the fans 24-7x
I over tightened my bleeder valve with air in the system broke it off and I tried this method for a solid half an hour or so just gently squeezing the rad hoses and adding more coolant in. I revved it up to 2500rpms for 5 minutes straight and that got the remainder of air out. Thanks for the idea
There's a thermostat bypass hose with a bleeder on it that's how the General motors manual says to bleed the air from the system all you need is a 10 mmwrench and a 1/4" drive with a 7mm socket
Very nice caro i have a 97 Pontiac grand am 3.1 L It has 238,000 miles on It and still running well i brought it from Florida to Querétaro México in 2009 AND i still have It here in my little villege in México.
I have a 97 Grand Am GT , can I ask you do you ever have small coolant leak. I think mine might be coming from the refill tank area. I'm embarrassed you got that many miles , mine has only 57 thousand, and what brand of motor oil do you use. Thanks.
@@alfx5432 good morning!! Check your tank CAP refiil coolant sometimes It Is dameged or the complete tank coolant migh be remplaced but be sure where the liks come from before to remplace pices. And About the motor oil your car has a few miles so use the oil 5w 30 AND when your car has 120,000 you can use 10w 40 AND It works good. Good look with you nice Pontiac take care of It.
@@RogelioChavez-j9zThanks . I don't drive the car that much. I was trying to see where the leak was coming from. But it seems it only leaks a little after the car has been parked in the garage. I hope it's not a hard fix
Just to let you know I watch this video and did all the things and I was heating up still and didn't know that that would help it breathe that way I have a different method and it didn't work this one did I appreciate it good work
Finally someone spot the issue I was having. Ect with my scan tool read 190 but my freaking cluster was between 200 and 210. Ill fix this issue today, thanks for your help buddy! ☝
tap water and its mineral eventually weaken a hose pliability n shorten their life. thats why freeze is so slimy feeling. just sayin. thx for vid n tips. im battling the same beast. 👍
Have you radiator cap off and fill it with anti freeze and wait it will drop down little by little, and then it will drop down alot when the thermostat opens, once that happens fill it the rest of the way, put the cap back on, then you will be full, otherwise it won't fill in the engine
Temp gauge at cluster is at 200 which is normal..my 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT with 91,217 is sitting in my garage stored from the salt awaiting next year spring time..
I just had a new engine put in but my Oldsmobile Alero 3.4 is still running hot and is no cooling in the reservoir after I just put it in the other day what do you think my problem is.
i changed the thermostat on my car, new coolant resivoir, flushed the system out of the radiator and the engine block about 6 times, bled all the air out. it doesnt break 200 at idle but it rapitdly increases after i drive around the block a few times even with the fans circulating air, and has white smoke coming out the exhaust but it fluctuates. sometimes it pours out white smoke, sometimes it doesnt smoke at all. could it be a blown headgasket?
So you just pour a bunch of distilled water in there until you see a steady stream? And then you fill it back up with coolant? And what are bleeder screws?
There are two bleeder screws that you can loosen that allows the air to escape once the car is warm, coolant will start to shoot out of the little orifices when the air is purged out.
hey, do you have any videos on flushing thye radiator and cooling system on a gm 3400 6 cyl? i have a 04 chevy monte carlo 3400 ls thqt im planing on changing thermostat and using tht Blue Demond gasket sealer
... on what kind of vehicle a GM with a 3.4 V6? there's like a dozen or so configurations for that coolant reservoir and the hoses. My coolant reservoir tank on my 2004 Buick Rendezvous, with a 3.4 v6, only has one hose going to it. But it's on the right hand side of the engine, when looking at from the front.
Yes, my 04 Chevy Impala will turn on the cooling fans at 215 degrees F and back off when it cools down to 195. But if you press the button to run the air conditioning it will keep the fans on to keep air moving through the A/C condenser.
I have a Chevy Cavalier that has been giving me hell getting the air out. Ran at 195 which is the midpoint for about a year. I replaced the water pump because there was a lot of noise in the pulley. When I replaced the lost coolant I didnt bleed the air out. After a few months it started running passed the midpoint onto the 2nd line of the temp gauge not too far from overheating. Scan tool says 225 which is 30 degrees more. This car has ran 195 or less which caught me by surprise when I saw the rise. Issue started as soon as I started using the heater. I think air got trapped in the heater core and released out when I first turned it on.
@@rodericklong3135 thermostat is 195⁰. It opens fully at 195⁰. The fans generally regulate the temp after that and keeps the coolant temp between 195 send 210. 200 is perfectly fine. But bleeding the air is very necessary nonetheless.
@@MURDACIDEBOY yeah I can see that happening. Never thought about it, but yeah that's true I suppose. I live in Philly, the Northeast, so I always use antifreeze cause we get some cold ass winters here.
@@GeorgeSmith-um6hs yea its cool for when its cold af outside. In Tx I still use it because it has a coolant agent added for when its hot because we got very hot weather. Its reliable so far. I got an Impala 04
You should check out the outlet hose from the heater core that goes into the back side of engine! You should find a small coolant leak which is where the air is being introduced into the cooling system. Disconnect tube and replace tge o ring gasket! Problem solved! You will need to put back the coolant lost and bleed system but this should solve the problem!!! This will hold true on most GM 3100's & 3400's. Your welcome!!! Thousand dollar fix I just provided for free!!!!
@@nickreed1260 your the only one out of days of researching on this heating up prob ! u nailed it, i just found it after pulling it up on blocks gettn ready to tackle head gasket. i read your reply earlier and thought na mines not leaking but yes it is! your a life saver
I have montana hade radiator hoses thermostats bleeding valves 2000 buck's later scrap it piece of shit dont get stuck like i did get rid of that junk cost so much money 4 mechanic no one can fix it get rid of it do youre self a favor
You might want change your oxygen sensor and see if that turns off the check engine light make sure you always disconnect the battery when put it in i cant remember if you disconnect both cords though you might want look that up because it been so long since i have worked on that year of car it keeps you frying anything cause it will rest your computer and stuff that car runs on
I need to do this to mine its running hot still ima try letting the air out from the tstat side b4 replacing the intake gasket but i done changed everything else radiator water pump hoses ect. And when i drive and get to 70 80 it starts to run hot. But in traffic or idling it sits at 200. Running no tstat 50 50 mix with royal purple ice.
So question.. I'm a descent mechanic, or a least parts swapper.. Ha! But I have this motor in a Malibu. And am in the process of deleting the tstat. I have the housing loose, but can't get it to come up with the limited room between the exhaust.. Secondly, did you remove the tstat completely or drill holes thru it so it still seals an doesn't leak.
Lmao yeah go ahead put water in a motor like this. Iron and water have never had a problem before 😂 go be "smart" somewhere else. Or actually learn something not just think you know it all
