Explanation of how Variable Camshaft Timing or VCT solenoid functions in the Ford Ecoboost platform. This particular 2019 F150 equipped with the 3.5L presented a CEL with codes P0018 and P0021 along side occasional power loss and cold start rattle. The cold start rattle is typically caused by one or more failing phasers but in this case it was resolved with the replacement of the bad VCT solenoid. The video describes our diagnostic procedure and how the VCT failed. In another video I will describe why and how the phasers are failing and that it is extremely important to disable the auto start/stop feature. It is also important to do 5,000 mile oil changes or less! You can’t over maintenance your vehicle but you can certainly understand maintenance it. Enjoy.
